Re: Boston Red Sox: 2007
Pena is utterly abominable in center. Just horrible. He let a liner pop out of his glove a second ago with 2 outs on the play and runners taking off, thus scoring. Just...wow. This Arroyo - Pena trade was piss poor.
Pena has no business playing the outfield again. He plays like a linebacker out there and I'm not sure I have ever seen a worse defender in my entire life of watching Major League Baseball.Comment

Re: Boston Red Sox: 2007
Probably in 2-3 weeks or 2 more mediocre Tavarez starts, whichever comes first.
To go off on a tangent (I'm in an odd mood tonight): I really do not think they should bring Lester back until he proves himself at Pawtucket. Why is Lester being treated as a veteran MLB player ready to step back into the swing of things?
Jon Lester has pitched a handful of MLB games and has not proven himself as a big league talent yet. Some here should remember him constantly walking batters in 2006, and somehow, someway pitching out of jams in nearly all his starts. He also never made it past the 5th inning in the lion's share of his starts, but he got some wins due to the talented offense hitting for him..
In other words, Lester was a lucky pitcher in 2006. So after having cancer, why should he be rushed back at all? Isn't it in the best interests of the club and Jon Lester to go very slowly? Why not ask him to consistently do well at AAA, then call him up? I just don't see the downside of this.
To be honest, I'm not a big Lester fan, so that probably clouds my opinion of this situation. I get the fact that he's lefty, tall, and a starter. Ok, pretty cool. Aside from that, I just wasn't really impressed by his stuff and command even before the cancer. I hate to be the turd in the punch bowl here, but I just don't see Lester as anything better than a #4 starter in the American League, barring some unforeseen improvements to his skills..Comment

Lester won't be a releiver. I'll give Lester a few shots this season and see how he does.Comment
