Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
Just a question...
you guys have a ton of talent, and i fear for the division once bruce and the others mature a bit.
Why are the Reds losing so much? Is it pitching or hitting or defense? All three? Just wondered what your thoughts are.
Espn hyped the Reds and their young talent, and continue to do so, but they haven't provided much coverage on why there are so few Ws.
Of all the teams in the NLC that are not the Cubs, the Reds are the only other team I ever had any interest in, especially when I was young and didn't understand divisions the way I do now. I would prefer if they didn't succeed, especially with Baker, who I despise.
Regarding Harang...I think he is the man. I hate to see the Cubs face him. I can see why Cincy might think of trading him, but guys like him don't come around very often.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

They are loosing in part because of injuries and in part because there two veteran pitchers (Harrang and Arroyo) have really struggled this year.
Again injuries have really hurnt them this year, Hairston, Keppinger, Freel, Griffey and Ross have all been hurnt this year.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
I really dont think he was ever a good pitcher, he pitched good when he first came to the Reds but has been terrible since.
Do you realize he started out 9-3 his first year with the Reds (2006) and he is 18-30 since?
The 30 losses in that span are the 3rd most in the majors, only Jose Contrersas 32 and Barry Zito 31 have more losses.
Also he from June 24, 2006 to June 24, 2008 he has allowed the most HR's in the majors, he has allowed 66.
A local sports talk guy was saying yesterday that the Phillies want Harrang. Would you guys trade Harrang for Victorino and some prospects?
That would leave the Reds with a rotation next year of
1. Volquez
2. Cueto
3. Thompson
4. Bailey
5. Maloney
Victorino would really fill a huge need of the Reds, he is a great CF and would bat lead off.
They also said if Harrang is traded and Griff and Dunn are let go, the Reds would have 37 million to spend this off season. They could use the money to try and sign Texeria or Burrel or maybe even both.
Imagine
1. CF Victorino
2. SS Kepp
3. RF Bruce
4. 1B Texeria
5. 2B Phillips
6. LF Votto
7. 3B Edwin
8. C Ross?? Or sign a free agent.
Looks like a pretty good line up to me.
What do you think?#WeAreUKComment

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
I wouldn't mind Victorino coming to the Reds, but not at the expense of Harang. Unless someone that is prophetic can discern that Harang is washed up. Otherwise he has been outstanding for us for the past 3 years and just because he his having a bad year doesn't mean he won't be GREAT again. Regardless of the wins, he is the anchor to this team's pitching staff. Furthermore, I am at the point that I don't want to see Bailey in any rotation for the Reds...now or future. At least not until he can dominate AAA again and find the ability to hit the broad side of a barn.
I don't think the lack of a leadoff hitter is that bad considering there aren't many good ones in the league right now. I would suggest moving Kepp there once he is healthy.Lux y VeritasComment

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
I am 35 years old and played baseball for 18 years starting when I was 5 until I was 23. I have been a Reds fan for most of my life, with the younger years being a Mike Schmidt fan so therefore I was a Phillies fan. I have watched and played in probably a thousand+ games. In all that time, never ever with the exception of Little League, have I seen a coach play a player over and over and over without a single justification as to why, like I have with Baker and Patterson.
Is there a Dusty Baker call in show? I would love to call in and just ask him why. I know Dusty takes quite a bit of heat, some warranted, some not. I am still on the fence with him myself and not so much because the team still sucks (they have sucked for nearly 10 years straight), but more from just his line of thinking. Between the high OBP guys clogging up the basepaths, to not realizing earlier in the year that Patterson had been in an 0 for 20 something slump because he wasn't striking out. But more than anything else, the thing that makes my blood boil is the fact that Patterson is not only still on the team, but freaking starting in CF most nights. He shouldn't be starting in ANY position ANY night. The other day I kind of railed Patterson and within an inning he hit a dinger. Tonight he has one of the Reds 7 hits. Yet everytime I look at his batting average it is BELOW the Mendoza line.
I keep saying that Griffey needs to go. Arroyo needs to go. Dunn needs to go. But more than anything I want to see Patterson go and go fast and go right freaking NOW!!!! I am in shock that upper management hasn't demanded that Patterson never start again. Here we have Hopper, one of the best hitters on the team last year, finally coming back from injury and where is he? Yep...on the bench. Maybe I missed something? Maybe we have no other outfielders right now because someone got hurt that I didn't realize?
Someone please tell me I missed something. Otherwise the fact that Baker is so far up Patterson's butt alone is enough to warrant him out of Cincy. Jake, I know you are going to freak out over that comment, but I implore you not to. I don't seriously think that Dusty should be fired over playing Patterson. I don't seriously think that Dusty has much to do with this team's horrible record. In fact I think, and have for a while, that this team just doesn't know how to win and I don't think any manager can change that. But Baker playing Patterson so dang much infuriates me so much that while I am pissed about it, I do wish he were fired!
Sorry everyone for the rant. I don't post about the Reds anywhere else and I had to get that off my chest. It is a dead horse that is continually beaten and I realize that. I just can't comprehend him still playing. Kind of like I can't comprehend how sound and video are actually recorded to a silver disc (dvd). Just isn't in my brain I guess.#WeAreUKComment

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
Thing is he just told the local media two days ago that he didnt want to be traded.
He told them he has become very comfortable here in Cincy and would really like to stay. He said at one time he really wanted to be traded to a larger market but the longer he has been here the more he wants to stay.
He also said he really didnt think he would want to be traded to the Yankees which I thought was kind of odd. I guess he doesnt want to compete against his beloved Red Sox.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Again not my comments these are Dusty's and Marty's.
Also if Freel, Hopper, Kepp, and Hairston where not all hurnt Corey would not be up at all! The Reds have no other OF's in the minors that are ready to play right now and that is the only reason Corey is on the team.
Hairston is coming of the DL today and Janish will be sent down, once Freel is ready you will get your wish and Corey will be gone.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
I agree with you 100% that Patterson should not be playing as much as he is but they reason he played last night is according to Marty he was the only Red that had a lifetime batting average of over .200 against Halloday. He came into the game batting over .400 for his career against Halloday. He was something like 8-16 in his career against him. Marty also made a comment that Dusty is not looking for offense in from Corey in an AL park since they are batting 9 true hitters. He said the offense should come from the other 8 hitters and that Corey is the only true CF on the team right now and that his d really helps the pitchers
Again not my comments these are Dusty's and Marty's.

And I TRULY hope you are right about CP being gone when Freel gets back. I just want to puke when I see his name in the lineup.#WeAreUKComment

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
Thanks for the explanation. I might not agree with it, but at least it is an explanation. I do wonder what position Baker thinks Hopper plays and how he isn't considered a CF. I mean I can't imagine wanting to play a good CF'er plus have the potential to be someone that can get on bases, as opposed to someone that has had some luck against Halladay in the past but can't hit himself out of a wet paper bag against anyone and everyone else. That isn't directed towards you, jake, so don't think I am arguing with you. I realize you are only relaying info that you heard/read.
And I TRULY hope you are right about CP being gone when Freel gets back. I just want to puke when I see his name in the lineup.
Again Dusty said he played as many lefties as possible because lefties came in batting .301 against Toronto's starter last night. Someone tell him Corey is not your average lefty he sucks.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
Jesus Christ, it looks like Dusty always finds a way to spin it so that Corey Patterson can play. GET HIM THE **** OUT OF THE ****ING LINEUP. I'm sorry, it's absolutely ridiculous. Look at his damn stat line. The guy wasn't even on a team until this spring, now he's hitting under ****ING .200 for crying out loud.
I'm so damn sick and tired of Patterson and Baker. It's like we have a team for the future but we have a ****** manager stuck in the past. He may be good sometimes but how ****ing blind can he be? I've never seen anything like this. Changes have to be made. Unfortunately, they'll bring in some guys who won't play because Corey Patterson, otherwise known as God, will be playing ahead of them.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
Definitely not, I think all of us Reds fans are all mad about it, who wants a below .200 hitter in the line up when we could have much better people in the line up. I say play Hariston or Hopper over Patterson because they will do much better.Comment
