Funniest thing I've read in a long time. Well, next to Jeff Sullivan's explanation of Beltre homerun last night.

A few minutes later, the game changed course on one of the worst home runs I've ever seen in my life.

Lopez and Ibanez made quick outs to kick off the seventh, but a Vidro single prolongued the inning and got us to the best bat in the lineup. Said bat immediately fell behind 0-2 on a pair of good sliders, though, and when Gregg Zaun rose to his feet and Jesse Carlson aimed a fastball at the backstop, everyone knew how the inning would end. Beltre would swing through a ball at his eyes, remove his helmet, and look perplexed, and the Mariners would jog out on the field having come to the realization that their best hitter swings like a *** **** ******.

Beltre swung at the pitch like a *** **** ******. And he stood there and looked around like a *** **** ******. Then he found the ball, bolted for first, and almost immediately began to trot around the bases, because Adrian Beltre had just hit a neck-high outside fastball over the right field fence for a two-run bomb.

My brain and the dugout simultaneously came to life, and as I stared at the screen trying to make sense of what had happened, all I could see were a bunch of people laughing. Laughing at Beltre, because with a wildly inappropriate swing of the bat, he'd just hit a two-run homer on what was for all intents and purposes a throwaway pitch.
I feel for you Jays fans. It must be hell losing to the Mariners. These f'ups can't even lose when I want them to!

Classic description of the Beltre home run. What's more is Sexson looked just as perplexed hitting his HR last night as well. It wasn't like the M's turned on a switch and were just better than the Jays the past two games, they were the same bunch bumbling fools (much like Sullivan characterized) that accidentally managed hit a couple home runs and have Miguel Cairo come up with a career game (are you f'ing kidding me?)

No, these two games weren't about one team being better or worse than the other, they was about the baseball gods hating the Jays more.

It's okay though, now that the Jays have lost another series to a terrible team they will probably sweep the Angels in typical Jay fashion. I think I may have to dedicate my viewership exclusively to Seattle going forward. They are far more lovable losers.

Word now is that the Jays are dangling Burnett as bait for a top-flight SS. Reportedly Phillies and Orioles scouts have been watching his starts lately.

Yeah I saw that too. I wonder when the scouts started watching him because Jeff Blair said on the roundtable last friday that no scouts were watching any of AJ's starts. I guess they're paying attention now since his last two starts have been very good.

Hopefully we can get a really good and still young SS. I also assume the Jays will keep Parrish around as the 5th starter if a deal happens. I'd have said Purcey but that kid shat the bed twice. He didn't look good at all in his two ML starts.

Apparently the O's are also looking at Eckstein. (http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/b...,7869204.story) Maybe we can package AJ and Eck and actually get something decent.

Oh man, got a lot closer than I wanted there but at least BJ came up with the big pitch when he needed. Love the production from Rios and Wells today, especially answering back after the Vlady HR. And we scored the add-on runs when we had the chance, something we haven't done nearly enough. Did you see the stats they put up at the beginning of the game? The games have a better ERA and have scored the same amount as the Angels, but they've hit way better with RISP so they're 10 games over .500 instead of 4 games under like us. Makes you wonder what could have been if not for Dumbo screwing with our hitters for 3 months.

Yeah I watched the Angels feed the other day and they made a point about that as well.

                  It makes me depressed.

I have a bad feeling this team is gonna finish in the AL East basement.

                    BYE BYE JP!

Oh well time to follow the Brewers now.

To be honest, losing 2 of 3 to the Angels in their building is acceptable even if you're a good team. What's not acceptable is to lose series to teams like Seattle. If we don't do some damage on the upcoming homestand I think JP may be gone before the end of July (and quite frankly whenever he goes it won't be a moment too soon).

I agree in principle but it's the way they lost the games. Oh and if we're going to throw out JP let's kick Godfrey out as well.

I don't hate Godfrey like some do, but I think he needs to stick to business affairs that he's good at and stay away from the baseball side of things. Unfortunately, I'm not sure he can do that because he's such a huge fan he always wants to win.

I was listening to the Morning show today and Cito basically said he wants to be the manager next year. I think in his mind he knows the season is done but he sees enough unfulfilled promise that he and his staff can tap into and he'd like to have a fresh start come '09.

So it looks AJ isn't going to the Cubs after they picked up both Harden and Gaudin today. However, with CC going to the Brew Crew I'm sure some of the NL wildcard contenders may come calling.

Also, Godfrey was on OTR today and you can watch the Up Front segment on tsn.ca. The interview mostly centres around AJ, but they also touch on the disappointment of losing and Godfrey's and JP's futures with the club. Recommended viewing.

Like that news about Cito as well, I'd love to see this team with those top-notch hitting coaches for a full season plus ST.
