If that's what he said then he's missing the point. Tenace said very clearly to "be aggressive in the strikezone". He emphasized the in the strike zone part. Sounds to me like he's just trying to deflect the criticism.

That's the vibe i'm getting as well. I didn't see the AB live but still, I'm sure Lyle's a great guy and all but he sure has a penchant for coming up small in big situations.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Your 2008 Toronto Blue Jays!
Nice game today, definitely did not expect to take it to Volquez like we did today. Rolen the first righty to homer off him (and only fourth all year) and the first time he gave up more than 3 runs in a game. I liked Overbay coming up strong in the same situation he choked in yesterday, although not quite the same pressure situation he had yesterday. Now we get a very beatable Braves team coming in and hopefully we can continue rolling.Comment

Sheesh that game got a little TOO interesting there but it's nice to see the Jays get off the mat there. Under Gibby I think they would've probably lost today's game.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Your 2008 Toronto Blue Jays!
Yeah Tallet clearly didn't have anything working toda. Good on the offense to pick up the big add-on runs right after the Braves scored; so often we give up after we get so its nice to see it go the other way for once. I also liked how Wells made an adjustment and came up with three solid hits in his last 3 ABs. And what to say about Inglett other than clutch?Comment

Re: Your 2008 Toronto Blue Jays!
Here's an interesting stat, tonight was only the 10th shutout of Doc's career. Y'know I always thought that number would be higher given how great of a pitcher he is. Once again the Jays couldn't score much but I give them a pass as R.A. Dickey's knuckler was very effective last night. I would've said it danced all night but his knuckler doesn't have that affect like Charlie Hough or Tim Wakefield when he was younger.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Your 2008 Toronto Blue Jays!
Yeah, Dickey looked really good and his knuckler mae thde BP look good too with the change in speeds. But Doc was flat out nasty today, one of the best games I've seen him pitch in recent memory. Hitting with RISP has been a bit deflated lately, fortunately Doc and AJ have come up huge in those games. I would definitely have liked some add-on runs, but wins make me forget about it at least for a little while.Comment

Re: Your 2008 Toronto Blue Jays!
Man, I guess sometimes you just have those days where things just aren't gonna go you're way and that was tonight. That pitch Beltre hit out was Vladdy-esque, even he didn't think it was anything other than a foul ball. And then possibly one of the best relievers in the game today gives up the tying and winning runs. Unbelievably unlucky pen tonight.Comment

I'm not sure what's worse, giving up a SB to Sexson or giving up a HR to him. That was his first HR since May 24 (and only his 2nd extra base hit since then...in 77 AB's).
Please beat the M's tomorrow. They need the #1 pick...BADLY.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

The M's sure got their 50 mil worth tonight! I hadn't noticed it was the 24th the last time he homered! I have been watching Seattle all year and being from Toronto originally I watch the Mariners this year from the standpoint that it has been wildly entertaining to witness the stoogefest going on up there at Safeco every night. Don't get me wrong the Jays have also been awful, but watching both teams religiously so far and comparing them, M's are on a whole other level.Comment

Don't get me wrong the Jays have also been awful, but watching both teams religiously so far and comparing them, M's are on a whole other level.I never realized that until last night. I want this team to tank so badly so the whole front office is gone as well. Thankfully McGowan is pitching for you guys tonight (at least the Jays have good pitching that is fun to watch...we only get that every 5 days when Felix is healthy).
BTW...awesome crowd on Canada Day from the Jays fans at Safeco. They kept showing them during the M's broadcast. It was impressive....even Lookout Landing has a quick reference to it.
The Jays fans made it easy. Where midweek Safeco usually sounds like a huddle by the Gallaudet University football team, both yesterday and today several thousand Blue Jay fans descended upon the stadium and made the kind of noise you generally only hear when the Red Sox come to town. The difference being that the Red Sox attract a giant flaming bandwagon while the Blue Jays for the most part retain only loyalists who know what it feels like to be dragged through the mud. And so, where a typical Boston series inspires in me a whole host of nasty personal threats, these last couple days I've been glad to have the Jays fans around, because they forced the Mariner fans to respond, and baseball's a hell of a lot more fun when it's played in raucous environment.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Letting Sexson, Bloomquist, and Miguel Cairo be difference makers against you things are not going good. The efforts of that troika marks a low point in the history of the Jays franchise.Comment

Re: Your 2008 Toronto Blue Jays!
Can the Jays please just STOP giving back all the runs they score right away?! The only time we ever seem to give up runs just happens right after we score some, and I have to imagine that deflates the offense. Oh, and how about we stop sucking against teams that suck? Consistently inconsistent, that's the Jays for ya...Comment
