I think Manual in ST is making all the pitchers hit in the #2 hole. His reasoning is that this way they get to practice bunting in "real" game situations. I must admit that hitting Reyes in the #3 hole has looked good so far.

Jose has the capability to hit for power and be more than a leadoff man.

What is wrong with having a leadoff man with some power? Reyes is pushing it to hit more than 25 homers a year. Some of the best leadoff hitters in the history of baseball had some pop in the bat. I do not expect a leadoff hitter to bunt all the time. When more teams are crying out for a legit leadoff guy the Mets put there's in the 3 hole. Go figure. Stick Castillo in the 9 hole and have him do his "magic" down there.

Dude hasn't been the same since taking a taxi a few years ago.. He can't even crank it up anymore.. If he was throwing like he had prior, then I would be upset. He's nothing more than a soft tosser. He was the "other" gas can last year in the pen -- and now we ditched both..

Reports have come out recently that he was getting his velocity back.

Either way, if they don't do something with that $1.4 mil they saved (like sign Pedro to a one year deal) then it's completely pointless. Pedro looks really good in the WBC. Would like to see him against some power hitters though.

Considering the sorry boys battling it out for the #5 spot, I would imagine Pedro could return, sliding Redding into the pen..

Sanchez this spring hit 89 only a couple of times..

We'll see...

I do not think I saw a report that said his velocity was returning Pared, but you might be more correct than I. His fastball was only in the upper 80's and that is not good enough for a power pitcher. I am fine seeing what the other guys can do and see if they can cut it. If not it can not be any worse than last year and they have a chance to get better as the season drags on.

I am more concerned about the fifth starter. I have not really been pleased with any of them and would be fine with bringing Pedro back. I would need to see him pitch against some better hitters and I still worry about how many quality starts he can muster at his age. Outside of him though I do not know of any other free agent pitchers left that would be better. I am siding more with using one of the younger guys at the fifth spot and hoping they get better as the season drags on.

Well - looks like Pedro is not coming back, and that Livan will be the #5 guy..

Reports suggest that the Sanchez move was more of a "cost cutting" move --- which I think means that the whole Madolf mess hurt the owners more than they are letting on.

David wright 0 homeruns in the WBC is a little disturbing but he did well even though he didnt have any jacks
