Let's hope we're winning the division instead, but I would go with Lester in a 1 game situation due to his experience.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

If all things line up it has to be Arrieta. He's been a legitimate CY Young candidate and his stuff is just filthy.Wolverines Packers Cubs Celtics

As of now, I'm fine with either. Arrieta has been great all year, but Lester has been fantastic the last month+Comment

I like your thinking, but no way in hell we're catching the Cardinals.
Arrieta has no-hit stuff. Lester has been great lately, but he can get hit pretty hard at times.
Plus, we don't have to see Ross in the lineup.Comment

Jon Lester in playoffs: 84 IP, 6-4, 2.57 ERA, 1.07 WHIP including a 3-0 record with 1 ER in 21 IP in the World Series
Jake Arrieta in playoffs: ??????????
I don't think there's a wrong answer here, but sorry I have to take my big money, playoff-seasoned ace. The only way I go with Arrieta is if the rotation stacks up that way coming down to the final game or 2. I'd rather have Arrieta on full rest than Lester on short rest in an elimination game. Moreover, Lester has a 1.84 ERA and 0.82 WHIP over the past month and Arrieta is at 1.34 ERA and 1.01 WHIP over that same period. Based on recent performance, it's a coin flip.
I think you'd also have to factor in matchups. For example, Arrieta has been a monster against the Pirates/Mets/Cards/Giants, but not so hot against the Nationals or Dodgers. That might factor in depending on who we get.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
It's a great problem to have, can't go wrong either way. This may sound weird but as a manager I think you go with Lester even though Arrieta may be better now. Why? Because he's still the "leader" and swings the biggest dick in the clubhouse. You don't want to castrate that especially in the playoffs with a young team....but I would have a quick hook with him in a one game situation.
If it was OOTP I would pitch Arrieta because there is no human element.PSN: JISTIC_OS

Pirates haven't hit Arrieta at all this year.Comment

Montero's lefty bat would be ideal to have in the lineup against Cole (I'm assuming the Pirates would pitch their best guy). So for that reason I'm agreeing and saying Jake in the Wild Card if that scenario happens..
It would be cool if Lester would build some chemistry with Montero.Last edited by k_mac; 08-14-2015, 01:08 PM.Comment

The neighborhood sucks, too. There is literally nothing to do at the Cell within walking distance unlike Wrigleyville. Yes, the red line is nearby, but so are the old projects, lol. I've probably been to the Cell more times than Wrigley just because ticket access has historically been much, much easier and cheaper.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment
