Not exactly helping themselves by dropping 2 of 3 to the Reds.

And still have gained a game and a half on the Giants. They've lost 5 in a row.

Only team we need to worry about. Just stay the course and we'll be fine.

          I know as a fanbase we're focused on the post-season (and it's crappy one-game playoff /rant)...

But, what are your thoughts on FAs for the off-season?

I'm not absolving Castro...but I'm amazed the team could take a 200 Hits/yr kind of hitter and have him collapse like this. I don't think it's too surprising given the clubs history (or lack thereof) of developing players.

Hopefully some of that is changing.

But Castro came up hitting doubles all over the place...and did that for most of his career thus far. It's natural to focus on the player as the problem, and definitely understandable in this case...but one has to think the "organization" missed a beat somewhere, too. I think they didn't correctly temper their enthusiasm about him.

20 over .500. Man, that seemed like a pipe dream at the start of this year.

Mike Olt was claimed off waivers by the White Sox. Shame he couldn't stay healthy this year, I was interested to see if he could improve at the plate from last year.

Yeah and that's not even our high water mark this season. We've been 22 or 23 over in spots.

                          Castro's starting to hit again...
OPS well over .800 for the past two plus weeks.

yup looks like his old self. Not rolling over and flipping stuff and even driving some to the opposite field.

Was at work so did not see us unravel against St. Louis earlier today...seems like Joe Maddon was a bit trigger-happy with pulling Jon Lester. Can anyone confirm? From the box score, it looks like Lester was cruising so I wonder if there was a good reason he got pulled after 7. Strop has been pretty shaky lately.

I didn't see it either, but I find it rather odd that he removed Lester for Richard. You would think that if he wanted a lefty in there, he would've kept Lester in. No idea what his pitch count was at, though.
