Wood was nasty today. Maybe Hendricks or Hammel should miss a start...

Pumped. Not just because they're winning...but they're also OWNING the Cards.

Kind of a crappy way to lose to the Cardinals with Lester crapping the bed early on and blowing chances late, but I did see this gem in a game recap:

Maddon also delivered on a promised "day at the beach" to Strop for earning his third save. Before the game, a beach chair -- arranged with bottles of beer in an ice bucket, a margarita and other paraphernalia -- was set up in front of Strop's locker. "I wanted to really make it really emphatic that he was not playing," Maddon said.

LOL. Gotta love how he makes things interesting. Seems like a big goofball.

Castro seeming to flourish with Rizzo and Bryant in front of him...15 rbis in the past 15 games.

Jake Arrieta is slowly becoming my favorite Chicago Cub over Anthony Rizzo

I mean who would of thought Jake would be dominating like this and being in the Cy Young race

Crazy to think that lost in this epic NL Central and NL Wild Card race, the Cubs have a puncher's chance at posting their best record since....1945....In fact, now at 89-62, going 9-2 to close it out would give the Cubs a 98-64 record, which would be better than the Lou Piniella machine from 2008 (97-64). It would tie the '45 team with 98 wins. It's not inconceivable since we are done with the Cardinals and the only winning ball club remaining on the schedule is a 3-game home set with PIT (and an oddball home makeup game against KC).

And they still wouldn't win the division. That's crazy.

Let us all appreciate the beast Jake Arrieta has become and pray for the continued health of his right arm. This is like a reverse Lou Brock trade with the O's the 'Cubs' of that deal...

                          Some perspective...

Arrieta might be first Cubs Cy Young winner since...Greg Maddux in '92

Arrieta is the first 20-game winner since Jon Lieber in '01 (as an interesting side note I remember attending a Jon Lieber start at home against the Reds on 9/10/01 and we all know what happened the morning after).

Arrieta is the first 20-win/200-K Cub pitcher since Fergie Jenkins in '71

Arrieta threw the first Cub no-hitter since Big Z in '08

But this one is my favorite...Arrieta, at 1.88 ERA, is poised to post the first sub 2.00-ERA of any Cub pitcher since Grover Cleveland Alexander (Old Pete) notched a 1.91 ERA in 1920. Any ERA lower than that takes you back into the Dead Ball Era and guys like Mordecai 3-Fingers Brown.

Any Cub pitcher that compares in a good way with Maddux, Jenkins, and Alexander, well, I'm all for it.

Just too much to ask for the Cards and Pirates to fall back to us given the teams they're playing (not that our schedule is any tougher). The only ground to be gained here is on PIT when we play them over the weekend, other than that it's just taking care of our own business and seeing where it lands us.

                            Congrats Jake and Kris.

I'm not sure what i thought, but I certainly expected him to be the ace of the staff.

I'm liking our chances to clinch tonight with Sonny Gray going against San Francisco.

We can't keep crapping the bed with strikeouts when we've got RISP and less than 2 outs though. Have to fix that before we do anything in the playoffs. I don't like to see our guys taking home run hacks to win it when all we need is a base hit/ball in play to tie it and stay alive.
