The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread

I've bit my tongue long enough and it needs to be said: Jon Lester is trash. Sounds harsh, but if you factor in his contract along with his bull**** personal catcher, this guy is a joke.

$150 million to get slapped around the ball field every other start?!? Go back to Boston, jerk-hole.

He has to be better but he was dominant in may and faced a good offense but compiled with the bad start against MIA I get the lack of patience. I am more concerned with the offense though.

And to top it off, he's got the yips throwing over to first base. Should've bit the bullet one more year and saved the money to go after David Price.

Kyle Schwarber is a beast, and Jon Lester's 'personal catcher' should be DFA'd.

And be replaced by Schwarber? So he can sit the bench?

Ross's value isn't in his offense.

Exactly, I don't understand what the big fuss about Ross is. He has to be the most valuable backup catcher we've had in some time just based on his defensive/pitch framing value alone. That's really all you can ask for from a backup catcher.. If he could hit like Miggy or better then he wouldn't be a backup, he'd be starting for another team.

Schwarber has to play and develop, and right now it would be silly to have him anywhere besides AAA.

No, Schwarber should get the most at bats. Kid can flat out rake.

So put a kid that has less than a year of professional catching experience in charge of a MLB staff?

I can almost guarantee whatever value he would bring at the plate would be negated by his defense.

When does he learn then? Next year??Theo said they're pleased with his turn around behind the plate. They're not winning anything this year. Now is the time.

Yeah, he does learn next year. And the year after...

Total knee-jerk reaction, lol. Schwarber was just drafted 1 year ago!!?! He's a catcher! Take those 2 facts together and it's a minor miracle that Schwarber is even up yet at all. He's got a lot of talent, but he's also got a lot to learn and only the most emotional fans are going to see him starting off 6 for 8 and say that's evidence enough he's here to stay.

I am in no position to question Theo's plan either--the guy's come off as a genius so far. His prospect development has been working, why change now? Everything he's touched so far has basically turned to gold in Chicago and the plan is happening exactly as it's been conceived. If the eventual ending point for the Cubs is a possible mini dynasty like he achieved in Boston, then what's the rush?

Why does it matter so much? No one here has the ability to trade him. All that matters is whether the front office is done with him and feels they can get value from moving him.

It's moot until Baez is able to come back. You want Herrera replacing him?

I'll take YOU over him right now. I've made it clear that I'm not expecting a championship this year, or next year either, but it's time to start moving the hell forward. They're stuck in neutral with this dude. A physical error is bad enough, but to not even pay any attention to the baserunners, is a......wait for it.........LACK OF FOCUS. Shocker, I know.

Jokes aside- bench this piece of ****. Move Russell over to SS, and call up Alcantara to play 2nd.

Time to really start moving this train in the right direction. Cut the anchor and go.
