Good bounce back win on the road.

Hard to believe the Cubs are 28-0 when leading after 8 innings.

I'm beginning to think adding a bat is much more important than adding an arm to lengthen the rotation. I mean Soler will help because Denorfia will be in a platoon role and not starting and Baxter as a bench bat is not horrible but still... as far as the starting lineup I will agree Castro has been really bad but so has Fowler, Montero still gets on base but he's hitting around .230, I love Russell but he's only hitting around .240. Coghlan really has been the 3rd best bat... I dunno what to make of that. That's been the problem hopefully it improves.

How long are we stuck with Fowler and his Soriano numbers?

when your leadoff guy can't manage to get on base at a rate of once per 4 PAs, he doesn't need to be your leadoff guy

He's struggled badly since coming back from his injury. I just read an article that he's been a better 2nd half player than 1st half in his career, and his numbers now are as low as they ever have been. Hopefully he moves back to his norms soon.

When facing RHP they need to flip Fowler and Coghlan or find a platoon for Fowler. They have to add a bat though.

Yeah, I'd agree with the sentiment that we desperately need a lead off bat, over going out and getting more rotation help.

Despite the early consistency of the rotation/bullpen we currently lead the league in WHIP, are 3rd in SO/BB ratio, 3rd in Ks and 5th in ERA.

If we could get any consistency out of the bottom half of the order, we'd probably be 6 or 7 games better in the standings. 4th worst in team .BA, 2nd worst in Ks and 7th worst in runs per game.

A bat is definitely needed. LaStella getting reinjured didn't help either.

signing ross still stands out as ridiculous, and is just insult to injury with Lester's pedestrian performance.

call up Schwarber...let him PH every day, start at Catcher every 4-5 games. He might be the third best hitter in the organization...and for that reason alone, he needs to be up.

btw, The WildCard sure does suck now...should be six teams...first two get three day bye, other four face off in best of 3 series. Best record gets homefield. One game playoff is meh.

I can't disagree with this sentiment more. You don't restrict a 22 year old rookie to pinch-hitting (which is extremely tough to do), starting once per week, and taking away consistent ABs. That has a high probability of destroying his confidence

Fine. Call him up and start him every day. Forget if his defense isn't up to speed. They need all the help they can get on the offensive end.

Again, I think anything he would bring offensively would be negated by his poor defense. There isn't much information on pitch framing in the minors, but from what I've read, it's not great and certainly not to the level of Montero/Ross.

So while he might add a few wins offensively, he probably loses a few defensively and it becomes a wash.

Let him stay in the minors and do what he's supposed to do... learn without the pressure of controlling a MLB staff in the middle of a playoff race.

I hear you, but I'm just getting frustrated with this offense. I know it'll take some time, so that's why I want Schwarbs to learn at this level.

A good defensive catcher that can call a game is too important...nothing suggests Schwarber is ever going to be that guy.

If he can't play OF, ship him out to an AL team.

At this point his stock is as high as it can be w/o more ML plate appearances...if his defense is that bad, it can only lower his value.

I hate it, but unless he can learn to be a mediocre OFer, he doesn't have a place on this team. He could be 1B/DH in the AL... I just don't think many teams want a liability at a position of such responsibility.

I kind of agree. His arm and feet seem to be good enough, but everything I've heard/read about his receiving is subpar. Haven't heard much about his ability to call a game, however. I just don't think he'll be able to stick behind the plate, which means a move to the OF and I don't know if he's athletic enough for that.

Him and Vogelbach would make a nice package for an AL team.

He'll be here eventually. Also yeah alot of people don't think he'll be able to catch but if you read everything on him the Cubs absolutely do and If he becomes average at calling a game or framing then it's all worth it imagine that bat that is able to catch. and the Play him in OF thing is kinda of tricky because LF hasn't been a problem for the Cubs at all really. Coghlan/Norf platoon has worked out great so far. So It's smart to let him to continue to develop. Also I know the team has been in a prolong slump but I don't think it's smart to say that a rookie would turn things around.
