Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
2) Jorge Soler is not ready yet. His hitting approach still needs a lot of work and I believe Sept. might actually be pushing it. Sure, there may be no downside given his contract, but he is a bit lost up there right now and slumping. He's still at see ball, hit ball. He free swings (actually swung on a ball that bounced) and seems predetermined to be too aggressive at times or too passive at times. He stuck out a few times and grounded out twice to SS. He also misjudged a couple of balls down the RF line that either dropped in just fair or went foul, but he should've been closer to making a play. Arm looks good and he's a good runner, but either his jump/recognition or effort are not there yet on defense. One thing I did notice, and it's hard not to, is that Soler is an absolute specimen of a man. Tall, lean, muscular, long legs, lots of tools and athleticism to work with.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
since losing the first 3 series after the ASB...
The Cubs have only lost one series (vs Rays) since winning series against the Rockies at the end of July...
23 games in August, thus far, 13 wins...including sweep of Orioles, and series victories against the Dodgers and the Rockies (again), plus 4-game splits with NYM, the Brewers, and Giants.
Not bad...
but omgosh 33 games in 35 days since late July... That's absurd...it's amazing they can go out and do that EVERY STINKING DAY of the summer.
and, yeah...Baez strikes out a ton. I'm sure a lot of that was expected...but, yeah, it's a lot. It should decrease...but, it will probably remain a bit of a problem...at it's worst, how do we feel about Jose Hernandez-type numbers?
As long as he's hitting opposite field line-drive shots over the fence, and can be a consistent threat to do so, I don't have a problem with him in the lineup.Last edited by fugazi; 08-26-2014, 12:03 PM.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

Re: Soler His season between AA/AAA he's had around 13/15 % walk rate in that regards he's much different than Baez and Alcantara.

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
Baez is 0-3 with 3 K's. I know it's Cueto, but this dude really needs to get rid of that stupid hitch in his swing. He's late on fastballs up in the zone because of it. These pitchers will stay up there too until he proves he can go up and get that stuff.Comment

Rizzo hit his 30th jack tonight. Great for him....Stadium was VERY empty when he hit it, I thought I was watching BP or something at first (only saw the highlight on the news)Chicago Cubs

Even Len Kasper is calling out that lazy piece of ****. I love it. It's about damn time more people started noticing. Once is accident, twice is coincidence, three plus times is a trend.

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
lol. Javy Baez just swung through 3 straight elevated 95-mph fastballs from Shelby Miller (fouled one off). After K'ing, he turned to the ump as if to ask "strikezone?" The ump shook his head like "oh lawd, are you serious?"Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment
