A few weeks ago when Marty was off they had him doing the play by play on the radio.
He was absolutely horrible, i couldnt listen to it. He was so boring and dry, I listened for about 5 minutes and had to turn him off.
Its funny one of my best friends is a college baseball coach and he makes fun of his lack of knowledge all the time.
I really dont mind anyone else that they have. Grande is retired and only fills in when multi people are on vacation. I LOVE Brantley, to me he is the exact opposite of Welsch, you can tell he knows what he is talking about.
Can you list some examples of when Welsh showed a lack of baseball knowledge? I don't think he's all that good at play-by-play but I think he's a decent color analyst.

I like Brantley a lot as well.

Wow, didn't realize we're running away with the Central. LOVE IT. Just like in 2010, we put the distance between us when the calendar gets later.

Whoever said that PIT would fade, that was a good call!

        What's the magic number?

Magic number is 12 I believe.
Jake called them fading earlier I believe as well.

I thought they were going to fade, but I didn't think they were going to suck this bad and possibly finish under .500.

10! based on my math (which is suspect) we can clinch as early as Tuesday the 18th at Chicago. If not the likelihood of the Reds being home for Clinchmas looks good and maybe they'll grant me my #1 birthday wish on Tuesday the 25th!

The Pirates will be out of the race by August 26th.
They just dont have the talent to keep playing the way they have so far this year.
They were also in contention last year at this point and fell out really quick.

As for the Cards they still scare me, even tho they are 6 games back they scare me more than the Pirates do. With that being said i think the Reds will win this division pretty easy.

By the way I love CoCo!
As long as we are tooting our own horns, I told you the Pirates didnt have enough talent to hang with the Reds.
The Pirates were 56-42 and 2 games back on July 26th.
They were 68-59 and 8 games back on August 26th.

They are now 72-69 and 13 games back.
They have went 16-27 since I predicted their fall.

Between football and starting a new job, I haven't been able to keep up as much lately.

I actually wish I would've been a fan during the early 2000's instead of just following. Those of you that we're fans then, I bet this and 2010 feel great.

I hear ya on the football. I don't know about anyone else here but I would consider myself a dedicated fan from about 1999 on... That being said most of those years I usually checked out on the season around August depending on the magnitude of failure. So if that makes me less of a fan so be it I guess but I'd challenge anyone to keep interest in a team whose best hitter is Joe Randa

I started following the team in '08. I think I went to my first game that year and had a blast. I looked at the past team success and didn't expect to see much good of them, and then '10 happened and bam, it was awesome. It's been pretty cool to see the Reds and Pacers come back recently.

All that being said, 90 wins baby!

Wow I feel old. been a fan since I can remember and went to my first game in 1978 at age 5. I barely remember it but I found the ticket stub a couple of years ago! And yes, winning is so much better than being completely out of it around July.

I just hope we can get out of the first round. It won't be easy. But I'm looking forward to it.

Got into baseball and the Reds in 2002.

Didn't grow up on baseball (born and raises hockey fan, I adopted football and baseball around age 11-12), picked the Reds for some reason on MVP Baseball 2003 and been hooked since.

So it's been about a decade and the wins are so sweet.

Magic number is 1 I believe!

I LOVE how we ran away with this thing. These guys have a real chance to go all the way, fellas. Don't let anyone tell you different.

You're especially lucky that the Reds are doing so well what with the NHL lockout!

Our number is 3 for the divison but below is some interesting info from Lance Mcalister's blog:

                                On the verge
With a win this afternoon or a Dodgers loss tonight at Washington, the Reds will clinch a Wild Card playoff spot and their 2nd postseason appearance in the last three seasons. By beating the Dodgers tonight, the Nationals would earn at least a spot in the Wild Card game and the first playoff berth for a Washington franchise since 1933, when the Senators reached the World Series vs the NY Giants.

edit: Also The Reds are only one half game back from the number one seed... I'm curious what everyone else prefers: #2 seed and likely play the Giants or #1 seed, home field throughout, and play the Braves or Cardinals.
