Attended yesterday's game and boy what a let down after 4 straight singles to start the 9th and to score only one run is a huge disappointment. WTH was Valdez free swinging up there and well Bruce we all know what happened.

I can't stand La Russa and am happy he literally f'ed up today about Cueto. This is what he said followed by the rule:

“If Dusty (Baker) had been more interested in Cueto being on the team, then he wouldn’t be pitching him on Sunday. Cueto probably would be on the team if he wasn’t pitching Sunday. The comments Dusty made clearly disappoint me and are attacking my integrity. The All-Star experience is too important to let anything stand in the way of a decision like that. No way am I going to penalize anybody for any kind of past history. The fact is that Cueto is going to be pitching on Sunday. Some other day, he’s probably on the team.”

No pitcher is supposed to be passed over because he’s starting on Sunday. In fact, the matter is spelled out in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, under appropriately enough the “Sunday Pitcher Rule.” It reads:

(ii) Sunday Pitcher Rule. Any starting pitcher elected or selected to the All-Star team who makes a start on the Sunday immediately preceding the All-Star Game (“Sunday Pitcher”) shall have the option to participate or not participate in the All-Star Game. If such starting pitcher elects to participate in the All-Star Game, he will not be permitted to pitch for more than one inning, and he may also inform his manager that he should be removed from the game if he reaches a certain pitch count (irrespective of whether he has completed one inning), provided such pitch count is reasonable. If a Sunday Pitcher who was originally named to the team elects not to participate in the All-Star Game, he will be replaced on the roster but treated in the same manner as other All-Stars who are excused from participation, and he will be encouraged to attend and be announced at the All-Star Game.

That game last night obviously sucked but I'm happy with the series. Split 2-2 against the Giants, I'll take it.

Dodgers have not been playing well, hopefully Reds can take advantage of that.

Saw the comments. LaRussa is definitely out of line. And I'm glad he's "officially" out of line.

You see Cueto's comments? Super LOL.

On a side note, after the all star break Billy Hamilton should be in AA or AAA. He is doing great at Bakersfield, but we need to see how he does against better competition.

                    Bye bye first place.

Drew Stubbs hitless again last night, extending his hitless streak to 0-28. Sigh.

That was too easy for the former Reds pitcher Aaron Harang.

A lot of these guys weren't this bad in past years. It's amazing the regression in some of these hitters, considering their youth. The hitting coach should seriously consider finding another job.

Yeah. It seems we have all the talent and potential in the world, but can't put it all together. We've put it together well enough to have a good record and until now sit atop the Central but I can't help but think we should be so much better.

When you only score 3 runs in 3 games, it is hard to win like that. We've wasted some good starts by Leake, Cueto, and Latos.

I love it when Goodrroyo shows up. It's just fun watching him sling frisbees up to the plate and hitters looking ridiculous.
                            ----
So Buster Olney tweeted last night that the Reds are interested in the Phillies Juan Pierre and Ken Rosenthal reported last week that the Reds have been in discussions with the Phillies about Shane Victorino. Reds primary interest in either player is as a rental lead-off hitter as both guys are in the final years of their contracts.

Juan Pierre would offer the Reds a free-swinging, singles-hitting lead-off hitter who can steal bases. No power and negative run prevention. If the Reds benched Ludwick to play him (doubtful) the hit to the offense would be tremendous. If the Reds benched Stubbs to play him (more likely) we’d see ghastly defense in the middle of the OF, less power, about the same SB and a bit more OBP. Given his age, declining plate discipline and lucky hitting, Walt Jocketty may be giving Dusty Baker another Willy Taveras. A toy the Reds manager will stubbornly play and lead-off every single night. Into oblivion.

Shane Victorino would certainly play CF for the Reds. He could bat first or second. He offers the same power and SB potential as Drew Stubbs, likely without the slumps. Victorino’s defense wouldn’t hurt, either. He’d probably get on base at a .335-.340 rate.

Depending on how much we would have to give up for him, I wouldn't mind seeing Shane Victorino out in centerfield for the Reds. I like Drew Stubbs, but his ability to go into major slumps kills me and his astronomical strike out rate (27%). Victorino (whose strike out rate is 5%) would add more stability to the top of the order.

Dusty manages nothing by what he (or anybody else) sees. It's all about getting shared playing time and making sure that "his" starters never lose their starting spot.

The way Frazier and Heisey have been playing the last several days, it is borderline asinine to have them not in the lineup today IMO.

Today is a big game for the Reds. You need to have your best current lineup on the field.

                              F-1: Ferrari.

It's been a while OS. Hope all are doing well!

Besides Frazier playing well, you would think he would get the start over Rolen because of Rolen's back injury. Let Rolen take another day off and then continue to rest over the all-star break.

Heisey and Frazier had big games last night and were key in yesterday's win, it's a shame they'll be watching from the dugout today. At least Ludwick has been producing offense.
