Maybe we can get Pierre or Victorino as a rental player until Hamilton is ready and he will then take over leadoff hitter role.

Must be hard for management to decide this at this time (trades) because of how much of a glaring hole leadoff and power has been all year and now we are winning like crazy. You don't want to fix what isn't broken but you also want to make a deep run in the playoffs. If they don't make a trade and our guys stop producing, then it's a "what if" scenario. Same thing if you make a trade and they stop producing. Very difficult situation.
I'd much rather have Pierre, especially for a rental. He's outplaying Victorino this year, and is a lot lot cheaper.
It is encouraging that Hamilton is still hitting .300+ in double A though, even if his stolen base numbers have dwindled.

Haven't been able to see a game of the reds this year after moving, but have been watching highlights and keeping an eye on them - it's great to see them doing so well, will have to try and see a game when I come back there.

So is it just me or are the Reds not getting much respect and attention from the media and in general? That's ok, we are the hottest team in baseball and are still flying under the radar.

I'm fine with that. I've read they are also interested in Choo from Cleveland. That would be interesting.

You're absolutely right, I watch about a half hour of Sports Center (always the top of the hour) just about every morning and they never show highlights of the Reds and they're tied for the best record in baseball!!

Flying under the radar is fine and all but its hard not to take it personally as a fan. Fortunately I don't think there is anyone on this roster who would get wrapped up in that stuff besides maybe Phillips and he's just rock solid.

As for Hamilton I would like to see him brought up when the rosters expand just to see what he can do on the base paths against major league pitchers and catchers. In close games late that kind of skill can be a huge game changer.

Well they did lead off Baseball tonight when them last night and talked about them for about 5 minutes. We will never be the Sox or Yanks so we will never get the pub and i am fine with that.
As for getting Shoo where is he going to play?? Over Ludwick in LF?? I dont like that at all!

Hamilton is no where near ready for the bigs yet. Not even close!
You run the risk of really hurting his progression by bringing him up too early.
He is going to switch to a CF next year in the minors. Let him play a year in CF in AAA or high AA next year and he might be good to go in 2014. They are switching him to CF because they just have two many infielders in their system right now. The Reds brass just talked to him about making the move over the weekend and he told them he will play where ever they need him to play.

Leadoff hitter is what they need the most, IMO. Someone that can consistently get on base so Phillips and Votto can get them in.
You guys need to give Cozart a break.
The guy has played 95 games in the majors, barely over 1/2 a year.
Let him come into his own, he will be fine.
We dont need to worry about trading for a SS as Didi Gregorius is not far away from being the Reds everyday SS for a very long time. Cozart will eventually be traded or just be a backup IF for the Reds. He was just called up to AAA about 3 weeks ago. He has played in 18 games for the bats. Check out these stats.

RF. Bruce has played abysmal lately. I know that won't happen though. Bruce will continue to start, no matter how bad he is hitting the ball.

Not sure if you were directing that at me or just quoted the last part of the conversation. Either way, I am in agreement with you. Cozart, IMO, is just not a leadoff hitter. Might be better at the 2 if he had anyone in front of him, but probably better at the end of the lineup. Like I said, if he could hit .260 with his great fielding I would be fine with it.

Although I admit I hadn't heard of the other ss you mentioned and would welcome a great hitting, great fielding ss for the future. Cozart would be fine until he is ready.

That is the issue with Choo...where do you play him? I agree about Ludwick, we can't take his power out of the lineup and Bruce, while pis*ing me off daily, has too much potential to be better than he is to give up now.

Kind of moot anyway as everything I have read is that the Reds may be ready to pull the trigger on Pierre. That's fine for me. Let him be the leadoff guy for a while until Hamilton is ready. But then you run into having way too many outfielders again. Ludwick shouldn't sit. Heisey is finally getting a chance and taking advantage. Bruce has too much talent and is paid too much to sit the bench and Stubbs is acting like he wants to be an MLB player now.

Like I said earlier, this is definitely a tough position to be in for Jocketty. What do you do?

It's not about hitting .260; it's about having one of the worst walk rates on the team. In the minors he walked a bit more and struck out less; give him some time and he may do that in the majors, too.

Of course Hamilton has been excellent at getting on base in the minors; you might expect that he'd be better at it than Cozart in the majors. At the moment Hamilton is only at AA, though.

And he just got to AA.
His OB% will go way down once he gets to AAA.
As you know AAA pitchers walk alot less batters than AA pitchers.
Once he gets in AAA I have a feelling pitchers are really going to cut down on walking him.

I know yesterday's game was ugly, but I read a report that fans were booing the Reds.

Really? They were on a 10 game win streak including an undefeated road trip.
