Re: Seattle Mariners 2012 team thread

M's bats on fire the last two games... Great to see Saunders turn on one and Figgins hitting the ball and getting on base. Felix wasn't sharp but his offense picked him up and he got his first dub on the season. Last year, if you would have told me that Felix got touched up for 6 runs, I would have laughed at you if you said he still picked up the win.

A beautiful thing to see. Let's see what they can do against Darvish tomorrow. I am expecting another good offensive performance. I got Montero and Smoak both going deep off of him.

Its almost unfathomable how Figgy gets placed in the leadoff and suddenly he's Pre-Mariners Figgy. Sample size, I know, but he has driven the ball more in the last two days than he has the last two years.

Big series coming up for a young team. A good series could be a great psychological boost to reaffirm they are improved. Another massacre at the hands of the Rangers could really set them back. I have a bad feeling about facing Darvish for the first time tonight.

Bingo. I'm not quite ready to get "Figgy Wit It."

On a side note, I'm really fascinated to watch tonight and see Yu Darvish throw. Haven't seen him pitch at all since the World Baseball Classic.

Pretty excited that we've had solid offensive production, and Smoak/Montero haven't even really gotten it going yet.

The team is just more fun to watch this year. Feels like there's actually hope for a league average offense. Excited to see how we fare against Darvish tonight.

Snap back to reality, oh there goes gravity.
Mariners need to show that they can pitch against the big bats in the West.

Re: Seattle Mariners 2012 team thread

I didn't watch the game (followed most of it on Gamecast at work), but here's some thoughts:

I hope Smoak gets it going. I just don't know what to think about him sometimes. He has yet to prove himself as a good Big League hitter. Yeah, he's young and I think he'll be good, but for as much as I've touted him to my friends as being our first baseman for the next five years ("BOOK IT!"), I am starting to have some mild worries about him. A .250 average and 25 bombs, if that's his ceiling, will be a huge let down for me. He needs to get it going. The season is in its infancy, but he needs to get it going. He has looked lost more often than not so far.

James Paxton should be brought up to the big club ASAP. I am not talking about rushing him, but the guy is 23. If his command is good, bring him up. Our rotation needs help. Noesi looked terrible tonight, but a lot of starters can look pathetic against that Texas offense. Along with Paxton (when/if he's ready), I'd like to see Erasmo Ramirez get a shot in the rotation. At this point, I feel like he might be a better option than Noesi or Millwood, and possibly Beavan as well.

Send Sherrill down, get Kelley back up. No reason for Kelley to be in Tacoma right now. Just my opinion.

I would really like to see Dustin Ackley and Jesus Montero try and take some pitches. Ackley is not seeing enough pitches, IMO. Montero is off to a sluggish start, but he'll get it going... But I have to admit that I was getting a bit tired of his first pitch ground outs or lazy fly balls in Oakland. Make the pitcher work a little bit.

Loving the start to Figgins, Seager, Ichiro's seasons. Keep it going... Seager can flat out hit.

I hope I can see this by June 1:

              Felix
              Vargas
              Paxton
              Ramirez
              Beavan/Millwood/Noesi

At least our bats weren't entirely silent silent yesterday... 5 runs each game and we'll win many games.

Tough game to lose, but still, some decent signs of life on offense. Not ready to write off Noesi since it was his first start, against the Rangers, in Texas. Let's see how he does this weekend against the A's.

I'll be there on Friday. Pretty pumped that Felix is pitching.

Seager looks awesome! Too bad the M's couldn't play Oakland all 162.

Yeah, that was a reality check for anybody dreaming. I still think this is a 72-77 win team. The foundation is obviously there, key pieces just need to mature before they can compete with Texas and LAnaheim.

The TV deal was talked about in another thread, but the M's deal can be rebid in two years for approximately $35m more per season (according to Forbes). How important is that money going to be towards re-signing Felix and going towards the young kids now who will be arbi-eligible a couple years later. The timing couldn't be much better.

Nice AA debut by Walker last night. For once, I wish I lived in Jackson, TN.

Well, what are you going to do. Feliz was pretty dominant today. Kid has great stuff.

I am glad Brendan Ryan got benched. That three pitch strikeout when Darvish was struggling to find the plate was ridiculous. I could be wrong, but I think that was the source of most of Wedge's frustration.

Ryan can pick it, but having at-bats like that is unacceptable. For as good of a defensive shortstop as he is, he can have some lapses in the field as well. I am sorry Ryan, but you're not good enough in any facet of the game to have lapses. Learn from the benching and start playing ball. I won't be sad if you're gone by the trade deadline.

Montero and Smoak got two hits a piece but that was it. A tough night for the M's, but Beavan pitched great. If he can spot that 91-92 MPH fastball, he can be pretty tough.

Just want one win from this series... Let's hope Millwood can quiet the bats tomorrow and we can get a little bit of offense. A 4-3 road trip heading in to Friday's home opener is just fine with me.

Paxton is throwing another gem today. 4 innings so far, 4 hits, 1 run, 0 bb's, 6 k's.

3-3 going into today's game. I really don't want to dip into that sub .500 category yet...

Loving what Seager is doing right now (everyone is I know), and I'm curious what happens when Franklin comes back and the outfield shifting begins. Does Figgins knock Seager off the map?
