Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
No. I didn't agree with the necessity of a total rebuild to start, but once you do it, you have to commit, imo. I actually believe that if they want to, they can still probably compete in 2017. A rotation of Miller/Teheran/Wisler/Newcomb, what looks like it could be a very good pen by that pen, and money to improve the offense, they could be competitive in 2017. If they trade Miller and Freeman especially, that gets pushed back to 2018, but I think puts even more talent on the field long term.
I wouldn't trade Teheran because he's only 24 and it'd be selling low. I feel like Olivera maybe wasn't acquired for his production; he was acquired because they thought he would quickly increase his value and be flipped.
Andrelton started quicker than Ozzie, but has regressed. I guess it depends on who you think Andrelton is. His first season+ (206 games), he was a .256/.304/.400 guy who looked good for 10 hr and 8 war a season. The last 2 (293 games), he's been a .255/.304/.335 guy good for 6 hr and good for 3.6 war. His power has disappeared, and his defense, which was amazing in 2013, has already started slipping some. He's still very, very good, but probably only about 2/3 as good as 2013.
Ozzie had 333 minor league abs before debuting. As such, his first couple of seasons weren't great. He never had back to back seasons under 5 war until very late in his career. Simmons is coming off back to back years at 4 or under. If he gets back to 2013 at the plate and in the field, yes, he can be this generation's Ozzie. 2014-15 Simmons isn't that.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I do agree though. At this point trade freddie. Trade Shelby, trade Julio, and anyone else with value on the 2015 roster. This team is several years out from being competitive and there is no reason to hold on to current major league talent when you are not competing.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I think they will trade possibly all three. The Cardinals has had interest in Freeman for the last two years. It is funny how every time we trade what we perceive to be non tradable player. People always bring up their hitting! Who in the h@ll are the Braves. We have never been a strong hitting club. It always been great defense and pitching. Heyward, Simmons and Freeman are all excellent fielders at their respective positions. And that still not enough for most! SMDH!!!

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I disagree that we've never been a strong hitting club. I saw Bobby Cox say once he didn't believe in pitching and defense; he believed in pitching and offense. And we always had pretty dominant pitching, but the offense was good too. Averaged 13th in the league in runs from 91-05. Averaged 18th since 2008, 29th and 30th the last two years. I think offense needs to improve more than anything else. You need offense. Since 1991, league champions have averaged 9th in baseball in offense. Since 06, when drug testing went into place, it's been 8th. Only 9 of the last 48 world series participants have even been below the midway point in runs per game.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Trading Peraza makes a lot less sense after trading Simmons. But it's not like he looks like a sure bet. Hit .293/.318/.378 in Triple A. Not bad at all, but certainly nowhere near top prospect status. He's still young. But he has no power and doesn't walk much. He's a defensive player. If Olivera hits, say, .285/.340/.450 next year, they can flip him for more than Peraza and Wood.
That said, knowing now that we don't have Simmons, having Peraza would be nice. Then again, maybe they knew something we don't. He looked extremely over his head when he got called up to the Dodgers.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Well, it's official...according to NBC Sports the Braves are shopping Freddie Freeman. I was waiting for this day to come. The report also says they are shopping Julio Teheran, Nick Markakis and Cameron Maybin.
The Braves are disgusting me.
Here is one thing I know. The product on the field will be MUCH better watching the Gwinnett Braves. I'll take my money there this year and get MUCH...MUCH more for my dollar.Comment

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Maybin should've been moved last summer. Markakis never should've been signed.
If you're gonna rebuild, do it all the way. 2016 will be bad, but the worst place to be as a franchise is in the middle.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Teheran, Kimbrel, Freeman, Johnson, Simmons and Heyward were all signed to long-term (two years in Heyward's case) deals in early 2014.
Teheran and Freeman are all that remain, and they may not be around much longer.
There could be some ramifications of that when trying to sign free agents or lock up the next generation of Braves.Comment

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I don't think so. I think major league players understand it's a business and that anyone is fair game when you're rebuilding.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Have you heard of Ozhaino Albies yet? I believe I read somewhere that our new GM believes he will be in the running for a spot on the major league team by 2016 (HIGHLY doubtful), but it seems that we are very high on him. Although it's still a bit too early to really consider him an "elite" prospect, he may already be up there in terms of potential. He is looking more and more like our shortstop of the future.

No way he hits Atlanta next year. He was in Rome (A+ ball) last year...I doubt fully he gets called up before 2017.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
My guess is summer of 2017. But I think mid 2016 is a possibility, albeit a long shot. He'd have to start the year on fire in Mississippi though.
