Now Olsen to Atlanta. Seeing more aggressive teams that actually want to win, regularly beating us out for the top talent, is sad to watch. It’s always half measures designed to keep the team competitive, they never fully commit to a deep run. I want to believe this is because Freeman is about to sign with us anytime now, but I know better.

Oh well, at least we’ll have the Jasson and Volpe years where Cashman and Hal still only do just enough to compete for a wildcard spot, to look forward too.

Hal’s greatest flaw is his loyalty to Cashman, not spending limits. He won’t move on in a new direction, with a new GM who can hopefully do more within the luxury tax limit, instead he’s just going to let the same guy pump out Wild Card Champions until he’s ready to retire.

Problem is, Hal won’t give him the 500M payroll he needs to build a championship caliber team, and won’t just fire him either.

Here's the thing for me. The Yankees brass has tried to build a title contender. The Yankees finally built a farm system to be proud of. They tried to develop a core. And it just hasn't worked out. Injuries have really derailed us. Even with young players. We still stayed hurt. I thought Judge Gary and Torres were it. But it just didn't happen.

Then we landed the biggest pitcher. Finally the ace that we asked for in Cole. And he flopped on the biggest stage.

So where do we go from here? We've had teams that were good enough to get to a WS but the offense just can't ever get it done in the key moments.

Judge and Stanton were other worldly last year. They came through time and time again. But everybody else including my boy D.J were just off their game.

I want speed and contact but does that get us a championship. I don't know. At the end of the day these guys have to come through with RISP when it matters.

One thing I do know is the approach has to change in every way with this organization. And station to station baseball will not get it done.

Re: **The Official New York Yankees Thread**

Prospects fail all of the time. Some of the injuries are unexpected, but some weren’t because we sign guys who have a history of injury. Taillon, Kluber, Paxton for example. It’s usually not a surprise. Maybe the volume of injuries becomes surprising because you just think how can all of this happen to one team.

We never seem to have starting pitching depth. Even when it comes to the offense, how many years in a row do guys have to fail with RISP before it stops being surprising? We’ve known this stuff forever. Like you mentioned, the lack of speed shows up there. Where certain teams can tag up on a fly out with 1 out, and then get a knock or steal a base and score from second, we can’t because half our team are plodding guys. When’s the last time we went into a season and truly thought we were the favorite? Add in the ball changes and guys were probably never as good as they appeared (DJ, Gleyber).

To me the answer is to just plug in the holes, but we never do that. We need a left handed hitter, they go get Gallo who has the same weaknesses as half the team. Defense at catcher is a problem, eh we’ll just put Gary on one knee. To me this is “we’ve tried nothing and run out of ideas”. Even when we went on our 11 game win streak we had Velasquez and Greg Allen putting pressure on the defense, Judge was taking the extra base. Bring back the starters and it all goes downhill.

We definitely could’ve been more aggressive on the trade market throughout this window, to account for the shortcomings each year. Guys like JA Happ, Sonny Gray, Tailion, Todd Frazier, Encarnarcion, Anthony Rizzo, David Robertson, etc, just don’t move the needle. It’s the same thing with IKF and Donaldson, today.

EE, Donaldson, or Rizzo, could’ve been ‘that guy’ many years ago, but by time we get them, those days are over. Our boldest, most certain move was Gallo. Stanton had to fall into our lap, by Miami being desperate to shed his contract and him having the NTC to rule out most teams from having a chance.

We just never really go ‘all in’, never risk moving a top prospect to win now. What does that get you in trades? The Gray’s and Tailions of the league, with old vets sprinkled in. Then those young players we cling to, like Garcia and Frazier, usually do nothing.

If Cashman was running the Cubs, Gleyber is still in Chicago and the Cubs are still trying to break the curse.

Kay was on the radio and mentioned Cashman saying “I don’t want to win a championship, we want to win championships” and Kay’s response was “well to win 2 first you have to win one”. He’s kicking the can down the road seemingly ignoring that the guys we have now are getting a year older every time he does so. Judge is about to turn 30, if we didn’t have Stanton and Cole’s contracts on the books I would prefer we just traded him instead of trying to extend him. But you’ve already gone halfway in, jump all the way into the water.

Yet Michael Kay is a big supporter of Cashman. He think the Yankees are lucky to have him and if they let him go he would get a job in a minute. I think at this point the family is fine with having a contender as long as the money keeps flowing in.

Im sure he doesn’t want to get the Marv Albert at MSG treatment, I say really nice things about my boss when I’m at work too. But seriously, he really is a Cashman stan and even he seemed surprised at the lack of moves. Don actually was preaching the gospel about the Gary situation, I was surprised.

But yeah we’ve known for a few years that Hal isn’t all in on winning. Sucks as a fan, but it’s nice on the wallet. We’ll never give up Extra Innings, but it’s much easier and cheaper to go up the road to see Juan Soto than to waste my money at YS.

I know Volpe gets all the praise. But Peraza has me excited for the future too. I really like his tool set. And speed lol.

Question for the Yankee fans as I need some insight for a twitter discussion I am having. Currently as you prepare a contract extension for Judge he is not vaccinated. Meaning he cannot play road games in Toronto. When the Red Sox offered the deal to Story it was in the contract he must get vaccinated. Which he did. Should the Yankees require that for Judge if they are going to pay him 30 million a year? What do you all think?

Yeah if he can’t play 10 games a year against a division rival, or more importantly isn’t willing to do whatever it takes within reason to help the team win, that’s a problem.

On a more positive note. I have a feeling Torres turns it around this year. You can't fake that great year he had. Also Higgy has been tearing it up in spring training.

Just gonna enjoy the season. And see where it takes us. Love the lineup. Pitching has question marks.

The changes in the ball say you absolutely could fake the season he had but we’ll see lol. I will say it’s interesting going into the season with no real expectations, should be stress free.
