Re: Official Boston Red Sox 2005 Thread
7-0 final. Great pitching performence by David Wells, 0 runs 1 hit 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Lets see if Bronson Arroyo can rebound from his terrible start against the Cubs last friday and keep the winning streak going.Comment

Re: Official Boston Red Sox 2005 Thread
Nothing like a series against the Reds to get your team going. We outscored them 23-4 in 3 games. I went to the game last night and sat in the roof box behind 1B, 1st row. It was damn cold up there last night compared to Monday's game. Only in New England can I go to a game in 90 degree weather and 50 degree weather in the same week.
It's tough to get excited about this series because the Reds are just terrible, but a win's a win. Hopefully we keep it going through the weekend.Comment

Re: Official Boston Red Sox 2005 Thread
I was out of state the past few days but that was a nice series vs the Reds. They needed to take two out of three and they got the sweep instead. They basically need to do the same vs the Pirates and got that off to a nice start last night with a walk-off 6-5 win. Foulke is showing signs of life as well. It was frustrating though to see the Sox fail to score Renteria after he lead off the 8th with a triple. Ortiz popped up and Jay Payton, pinch hitting for Nixon, hit into an inning ending double play. That certainly won't make him attractive to other teams looking to deal for an outfielder.Comment

I didn't think the Sox were trying to trade Payton. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see any reason to. He's been reliable all year, can play all three OF positions, and has been a good locker room addition, don't know why we would trade him.Comment

Really? Man I missed that thing(Payton asking to be traded) but I'm not surprised. Well, actually I think I am because he used to be fine with his role, but I don't see him getting his wish. Once the summer and fall roll around and he actually finds himself in a playoff race, and feels the intensity that players feel in boston during a playoff push, Im hoping he'll cheer up.Comment

Re: Official Boston Red Sox 2005 Thread
Well, the Sox got shut-out for the first time this season last night. It just stunk that they wasted a nice outing by Wakefield in doing so.
Speaking of the Giants, Peter Gammons reports that the Sox were in talks with them about Jason Schmidt. However, they haven't liked what they have seen out of him and do not appear to be on the verge of making an offer.Comment

Re: Official Boston Red Sox 2005 Thread
Interesting lineup for the Sox today. Nixon is leading off, Millar is playing LF and batting 4th and Olerud is at 1st. Damon and Manny are out of the lineup today. Damon has been banged up with a shoulder injury and Manny got hit by the pitch last night and was due for a day off anyways.Comment

If we trade Hanley, we'd have to look more seriously at resigning Damon, and the combination of Damon and Schmidt would cost about 20 mil a year...and that's not Theo's style.
Who do you think the Sox should look at before the deadline and in the offseason to fortify the rotation and get us younger at the front most importantly? Obviously take out guys like Ben Sheets who just reupped their commitments to perennial losers like the Brewers.Comment

Re: Official Boston Red Sox 2005 Thread
By the time Schilling gets back, the rotation should be all set. Sure, we could get younger, but that can be done in the offseason. What the Sox need most by July 31st is a solid middle reliever. Timlin has been outstanding as the setup man, and Foulke has been pitching like Foulke lately, but Embree and Mantei just aren't getting it done. Myers does a great job as a lefty specialist, but we need a reliable guy that can consistently pitch the 7th, or even the 8th to give Timlin a break.Boston Red Sox l New England Patriots l Boston Celtics l Massachusetts Minutemen l Boston College EaglesComment
