I think if Schilling works out in the pen, the starters continue to do a pretty good job, and Foulke continues to have problems, the odds are strong that (atleast IMHO) that Schill will stay in the pen. And Theo will go ahead a move his attention to acquiring a starting pitching.

Although that's alot that would have to happen, and alot of "ifs"

That could be the case, especially if Theo decides the market for starting pitching is better than relief. I'd feel much better about the Sox giving away prospects for a Burnett or Schmidt than a Guardado or Villone.

exactly, that's part of the reasoning I saw in them moving Schill to the pen

Bad news but not unexpected, Foulke to the 15 Day DL, Arthroscopic surgery is scheduled. Don't know when it will happen though, link when I get one

I don't know if I'd consider that bad news. At least it provides for a possible explanation for Foulke's poor showing this season. Hopefully it rights him and he can contribute down the stretch.

I agree, but unfortunately it means we'll have to wait until after the all-star break to see if he can be effective. I still expect Theo to make a move in the next couple weeks although I'm not sure if he'll target a starter or reliever.

That was a good win tonight. Nice to see the Sox take 2 out of 3 at Arlington which hasn't been too kind over the years. Its weird to see them playing this well on the road after seeing them play terribly at home that last homestand. Hopefully that was an aberration. They've struggled with the Jays and Orioles this year, let's see if they can turn it around starting tomorrow in Baltimore. They need to play better against their AL East opponents.

Peter Gammons has now reported that Kevin Millar wants to be traded....amazing

I can't say I'd be sad to see Millar go, he was a dissapointment for most of last year and has returned to his dissapointing form this year. He would be good in a platoon type of role (which they're moving towards) but he apparently is not happy with that.

Why on earth would Millar want to be traded? Is he pissed that he's a crappy 1B and Francona replaces him with Olerud? I swear Schilling, Damon and Millar have a running bet to see who can get their name in the paper the most.

Well Millar did take a big part in the second half push that the Red Sox made last year, as he was second on the team in OPS during the second half. Hopefully, he can do the same thing this year.

You and me both. Now Damon is calling for Timlin or Arroyo to be the new closer, saying Schil isn't ready and Tito is dogging the guys in the pen that were "bypassed" in the decision. My opinion of all this...there's a lot of guys in contract years and with players taking sides like this, it can't be good for the chemistry of this club. He then went on to back Millar and Bellhorn.

In a move that excites me, Manny Delcarmen was promoted to Pawtucket and pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief in his debut at McCoy. Great to see him bouncing back from arm surgery and getting closer to the show.

I read that. Pretty dumb comments by Damon. First, Arroyo said he preferred to stay in the rotation. Second, Schilling is not the closer at this point. Timlin will be the closer for the time being while Schilling will be in the bullpen. If Timlin does well, I can't see them taking him out of that role.

I like Delcarmen as well. Gammons said on WEEI last week that he could be the next Francisco Rodriguez in terms of jumping up to the majors and succeeding. I think that is pretty optimistic, but he could be a solid contributer in the future.

YES! Please trade Millar. I have been pushing for this for a while now, and when Olerud came on-board my hopes were raised. Do it!

Wow, if he pans out like that I'll be singing his praises till I'm blue in the face. At the very least with a strong fastball and the best curve in the system he's going to be a great power arm out of the pen. Originally projected as a # 2 starter, but with the surgery, he seems poised to make a difference towards the end of games.
