I watched the first inning and saw how McGowan was getting killed. It was very disheartening. Ah well there's nothing like a good beating to put a fire under a team's butt.....or it could mean the Jays will go on a long losing streak.

They need to pick up some wins against the Yankees.

Jays down 1-0 against Yanks in the first game of their series, Downs seems be pitching decent tonight.

Stick a fork in em folks. The Jays' slim playoff hopes went down the toilet tonite. Let's just hope that they can have a decent year and stay above .500.

Re: Official Toronto Blue Jays "Birds Nest" Thread

I said this team was finished awhile ago so I'm not shocked.

JP has a lot work to do in the off-season. It's obvious we need at least one legit big bat. In big bat I'm not talking about a Dimitri Young or Aubrey Huff type, but a big bat in the class of Carlos Lee, Adam Dunn, Paul Korneko, Carlos Delgado, etc...

Wilner says the Jays need 2 and I wouldn't disagree with that. I have little faith Koskie is going to bounce back next season. For some reason 3B historically don't produce at his age going foward.

I'm not sold on Rios and I would package him with Chacin (and prospects if need be) to hopefully get a bat or frontline starter.

At this point the Jays have one SP they can count on for next season. I remain hopeful for next season because no other team is going to add as much payroll as the Jays are. If Burnett doesn't sign with the Jays, it won't be because we lack payroll flexability.

AF why you keep dogging Rios. I think this is a guy who will mature to be a .300/25/90 guy yet you always complain about him. It just frustrates me to see someone dogging talent that has only been in the league for less then 3 years.

I'm actually puzzled as to why so many Jay fans think Rios is going to be a power hitter.

His career high in HR's is 11 and that was in AA. With the exception of AA he has never hit for a high SLG or OPS. To tell you how bad he's hitting this season, Hinske has a higher SLG and OPS. Among Jays he ranks 8th in SLG and 10 in OPS. And don't forget the Jays aren't a power hitting club.

During ST he said he put on 10-15pds of muscle during the off-season but he sure doesn't look like it. I would cut bait on Rios right now while some clubs still see him as a potential 5 tool player.

His performance and professional track record indicate he's nothing more than a 4th OF.

I'd like to see the minor league numbers of Eric Davis and Kirby Puckett as i've seen commentators say that Rios could blossom similarly to them. Both guys didn't light the world on fire in their first few years but had solid careers nonetheless.

Here are the minor league numbers for all 3:

It's hard to judge Kirby since he barely played in the minors but Davis and Rios aren't even close in terms of power.

Thanks much appreciated....maybe you may be right but i'd like to see Rios try for 3 years first tho.

The Jays pitching hasn't been exactly great for the past few games.

I don't root for the Yanks when they play the Jays.
