Re: The 2009/2010 Big East Thread

Dissapointed with Uconns performance but it is ok. We are a pretty, young inexperienced team and it was probably good for us to get knocked around. 3 things bother me though:

    1) Rebounding. First time in a while a UConn team doesnt dominate the boards. In fact, we are getting dominated.

    2) No 3 point shooters. Dyson, Walker, and Sticks are somewhat decent. But we have no A.J. Price, Rashad Anderson that can stroke it consistently. Wish we still had Scotty Haralson, would've liked to see what he could've done.

    3) Free throw shooting. Always a concern for UConn teams it seems. Hopefully we improve.

I absolutely hate the Dookies so I was pissed about the loss, but it may not be such a bad thing. I would like to get one win against either Texas or Kentucky. I don't think either team is that great, so we could easily sneak out a win. Especially against Kentucky in MSG.

Btw, the Big East looks once again to be the best conference so far. Marquette looked great! Hope UConn survives it. I know one of these top teams wont. I guarantee one of the top big east teams right now doesn't make the tourney.
I will always, always be a Jets fan. But trust me it hurts.

We haven't recruited a four or five-star pure shooter since Rashad Anderson. You can't go seven years without recruiting a cotdamn shooter.

UofL drops a game to UNLV. Seems par for the course for a Pitino Louisville team, as we lose another game in November.

I am very impressed with how our young squad fought back and got back into the game. We could've easily packed it in, but we played our asses off and got back into the game.

Gtown with an offensive explosion today.

Fr. Hollis Thompson was 6-6 from 3. Jason Clark also had his career high in points. A couple more tuneups before Butler & Washington.

Louisville playing tonight without both Peyton Siva and Preston Knowles due to injuries. Knowles is expected to return Saturday vs Charlotte. Siva's return is unknown at the time.

Knowles has a sprained thumb and Siva has a sprained wrist. Sosa is also injured with a banged up knee, but is expected to play the entire game tonight.

Pitt really looking like a young team tonight. Losing to Duquesne 33-20 at the half while shooting a woeful 26% from the field and having committed 8 turnovers.

completely true. Rashad Anderson completed that team, and they should've won the national title. Although he was on the Okafor team, and if I'm not mistaken, a significant part of it.

I was pumped when I heard comparisons of Scotty Haralson to Rashad Anderson, but obviously he isn't good at much else and not at the same level as Rashad, or else he would've played a little more last year, and not of transferred.

I guarantee last year's team would've won the Nat'l Championship if they had Dyson and a pure 3 point shooter. The team would've been absolutely complete. This needs to be one of Calhoun's top priorities in recruiting. Without an elite shooter, we need Kemba and Sticks to consistently hit 3s or else we won't win the Big East in my opinion.

Boy did Dyson's injury scare me there. Same knee as last year, and I thought at the beginning it was terrible. He didn't go into the locker room, so it shouldn't be too serious. Big blowout of BU, so Dyson probably won't go back in even if he is fine.

The Dagger was definitely a huge part of the '04 title, hell he hit the biggest shot of the semi-final game against Duke, the one that started the come back with three minutes left. Plus went nuts along with Gentle Ben against Alabama in the Elite 8. I believe Gordon had 36 and Rashad had 28 and they had 11 or 12 combined threes.

He was also the reason we were even in the Elite 8 in 2006, his shot vs Washington to send the game into OT was ridiculous. The reason they didn't win in 06 though was their defense, especially on the perimeter. Marcus Williams and Rashad Anderson are arguably the two worst perimeter defenders in the last twenty years of UConn basketball when looking at starters/major contributors.

Rashad couldn't play a lick of D or go to the hole but he could shoot his rear end off and swagger for days, I definitely miss him.

Yeah, I still remember like it was yesterday, staying up really late for that Washington game. Brandon Roy was a monster, and we played like crap. Finally, they fouled Marcus Williams for a stupid and1, and then Rashad Anderson hit that 3 off the handoff. Just an amazing game!

I actually talked to Rashad a little at the UConn alumni game at Mohegan Sun. I talked to him about the NBA, and he said then (2 years ago) that he was getting tryouts from the Knicks and some other crappy teams. He said he thought he played really well for them, and he said he thought he could definitely make it, if he focused on defense. Obviously, he hasn't although I still think some team should pick him and just put him when trailing big, because he should be instant offense off the bench. Over seas, he is absolutely dominating. I looked at the stats once and was amazed. I remember making fun of him his freshman and sophomore year, because he never even stepped inside the paint. His junior and senior year he started to a little better, and I wonder if he's improved a lot since then. I have to say Rashad was my favorite UConn player I've ever watched.

They made it to the Elite 8 in '99 and were entertaining enough during the mid 90's through early 00's.

Well, I just witnessed in person one of the most pathetic halves of basketball you will ever see. Pitt and UNH were both ice cold from the field to start the game. It took nearly 3 minutes for anyone to score and the score was UNH 5 Pitt 4 at the 10:00 mark of the 1st half. It took about 17 minutes for Pitt to reach 10 points and Pitt lead 15-7 at the half. At one point late in the first half they showed the FG percentages for both teams on the scoreboard and UNH was 3-20 while Pitt wasn't much better at 6-23. Things got a little better for Pitt in the second half as the went on to win 47-32. Pitt wound up shooting 40.5% from the field while UNH shot a woeful 23.5%. The game was marred by poor shooting, poor ball control, and turnovers (Pitt 16, UNH 13).

Just looked at the box score, what was up with Pitt's offensive distribution? McGhee, Woodall and Robinson played a combined 68 minute and took five shots.

Gibbs and Wanamaker did all the scoring (and shooting), looks like a video game box score on 10 minute halves.
