Re: 2K needs to patch player roles NOW and not wait until next year.

I think instead of just a flat overall rating for roles, it should look at the depth chart. Bledsoe was fine playing 20 minutes a game for the Clippers because he was playing behind CP3, and the Clippers had plenty of players that fit the SG role better than him such as Crawford, Billups, and Green. But he would certainly be unhappy if he was getting 20 minutes a game for the Suns this season, as he is either the first string PG or SG.

Green on the Clippers is another good example. He's probably going to get solid minutes for most teams in the league, but records DNP most games for the Clips because he's the third string SG, and plays whenever someone is injured. He's fine with his role on the Clippers, but he would usually complain in 2k.

I also feel like the role during contract negotiations should have more of an impact, as Green signed with the Clippers knowing he'll be a benchwarmer. If the Clippers were promising him a starting spot in 2k world when he signed, and he ends up as the third string SG, then he should be unhappy. But there should also be an personality trait that determines how willing a person is to sign for a smaller roles and how they react to not getting the role they were promised.

Re: 2K needs to patch player roles NOW and not wait until next year.

PER, TS%, RB%, USG%, WS and other advanced stats are well represented in the game. It's time to take advantage of them. What if AI coaches used PER instead of overall to judge the player's value instead? It would not only ensure that players that play most efficiently get the most playing time, but also be self correcting. A guy with poor attributes gets a bump in his minutes because he has a fluke game? No problem, as he gets more minutes it will turn out he's not actually the superstar his stats briefly showed (think Jeremy Lin). Might players also demand minutes based on their efficiency and just suck it up if they're not producing/given enough chances and just refuse to re-sign with the same team, not ruin the team chemistry/all of their attributes?

Morale should be looked at more closely as well. It's not realistic to see all of a player's attributes go down just because he's not getting playing time (or vice versa). Maybe it would instead effect certain attributes and tendencies we can associate with good morale. Hustle attribute might go down, as well as off/def awareness as the player isn't as focused on the games. Maybe a big drop in passing tendency and increasing shooting tendency when a player feels like he's not getting what he deserves? Maybe a player can still be happy with smaller minutes as long as his USG% is high?

In any case, the penalty for bad morale is too catastrophic at the moment, unless you're starter caliber and completely getting benched, -10 in ovr is too punishing, basically means you have to trade the player. The system needs to be balanced enough where pretty much all real NBA rosters can exist without there being too many guys unhappy. With the system I've seen on current gen (haven't had the chance to play NG yet) some years real life teams with good benches just completely tank the season because all their bench is crying for more minutes.

Btw. I'm also still waiting on the next-gen launch here in Europe.

Any of you guys know if that Taj Gibson role has been fixed in 2K NG ? In real-life he's coming off the bench and willing to put in the work with the minutes he gets. But in 2K14 CG he's always asking for trades or unhappy with his role. It was similar to what happened with nate robinson in 2K13

Re: 2K needs to patch player roles NOW and not wait until next year.

Right now I'm just trying to figure out why when I signed a FA in the offseason to a Sixth Man role, he ends up pissed and demanding a trade? Like literally, I approach him to sign, he tells me he wants X amount of money to play Sixth Man, I accommodate his wants, and he still gets angry. Pretty frustrating, I haven't been able to keep a Sixth Man happy so far, and I'm about 6 or 7 years in.

Another problem I have with MyGM is the same the issue I had on CG Association, the league just becomes way to scrambled up way too fast. By year 3 the league looks like there was a fantasy draft. I think trades should be toned down a lot, only time you really see trades in real life is during the offseason (Which we can't do), and right around all star break. My phone rings OFF THE HOOK throughout the whole season with trade offers.

I think that player morale, especially low morale, is over exaggerated in the game. You rarely see players in the NBA demanding trades, but in MyGM at least one player on every team wants out. Players should be able to adjust to their role with less sensitivity. I think there should be stats we can look at that calculates statistics per 48 minutes. If I have a player on the bench that is out performing a starter, I wanna be able to make that change without having to trade my starter to keep my team morale up. Players are way too sensitive, and everything is based on Overall instead of statistical output, like stated by my man Gosens6 above.

And another thing, kind of off-topic but definitely an issue for me right now. MCW strained his back and was supposed to be out for 2-4 weeks. But he ended up being out for the whole year (even though the injury report continued to say 2-4 weeks the whole year). I though that maybe it was because I had a Trainer with that Staff Badge that experiments and potentially keeps your player out longer. But no, MCW ended up being hurt the WHOLE NEXT SEASON also. I'm starting to think its a bug. Anyone else encountered this?

Yes I've actually encountered this glitch a few times. Durant signed with the Knicks but for some reason he and K Love haven't played for 2 years due to minor 2 to 4 week injures.

I'm glad we can get a constructive dialogue going about player roles. For some reason the CPU insist on Rookies playing few minutes no matter what their rating.

Re: 2K needs to patch player roles NOW and not wait until next year.

Perhaps an EXPECTATIONS personality rating? 99 would be LeBron, Kobe, etc. They expect to start every single game, they expect to never be benched, they expect to make the playoffs every single year.

0 expectations would be someone just trying to have a job. mostly free agents and UDFAs.

somewhere in the 40s could be guys like Jarrett jack, Harrison Barnes, etc. that rating would equate to guys who are willing to take lower MPG roles to help their teams win games. they don't expect anything but to help contribute with 20ish minutes a game.

              just a thought.

So everything could be fixed if everyone's overall was knocked down by 5-10pts?

Normally I do this every year and its the only way to have a good association without all the player issues.

Bums are rated 50 and below.
                    Role players are rated 55-60ish
Sixth man type players rated 65-75
                    Starters(not all) rated 70-75ish
                    Allstars 75-85ish
                    Superstars 85+

Not my exact technique but good example. I normally do this every year for 2k on PC. Most importantly really good rosters with updated tendencies.

Potentials are probably the biggest issue with association and mygm(assuming besides vC unchanged). Very few regular nba players will have over 50 potential rating with my roster. Not everyone will be the next star and I always try to make it clear who are the stars and who are bench players.

I could go on and on. Take me a few days to do this but the end result is great.

Now I'm being forced to play the way someone else wants me to.

I'll be honest I took mine back after 24 hrs and got store credit and picked something else up. AT least 4 of my friends did the same. The removal of features is almost criminal. This game is a slap in the face to all the users here on this forum that actually play deep into seasons and play association offline and online. Yeah ONLINE, you know the feature totally removed. I've been a lifelong supporter of this franchise and to be honest have never been more dissapointed in my life with a game. I would've been happy with the graphics, lighting and presentation changes. This game always allowed me to play the way I want to and now I feel like EA made this game which trust me is the exact opposite of what you guys want.
I'll bite too. Association is the ONLY mode I've been playing ever since NBA 2K arrived on PC. Even most of my modding efforts were on making Association more interesting. And since I was hired by VC in July 2013, I've been working my bottom off every day working on it. And instead of staying away from the complaints (that reach poisonous, plain hate sometimes and make it really hard to take all this), I'm here every day, noting down suggestions, tracking down as many bugs as I can find, and trying to start discussions on implementation. Why do it again and not just look at old wishlist threads? Because even the most minute of tuning behind-the-scenes may result in changes that make old wishlists irrelevant. So, feel free to join in the discussion as to how Player Roles should work and affect player morale as well as any other aspect, and take solace (if any) in the fact that I'm watching closely and discussing the best ideas with my colleagues.

I still have a gazillion things I've wanted to work on "if I ever had the chance to work at VC", and the list only grows bigger with each great idea I come across in the community. That's why I'm trying to get discussion going, instead of seeing a thread that says "oh I hate this rip it out" and just shake my head and move on.

The biggest thing is that trades have to be toned down. First, there shouldn't be so many. Second, you have to change how CPU analyzes talent and value. I put amare on block and every team had an offer for me. I traded him for David lee! It should be impossible to trade amare.

This is another issue with overall ratings. 2Ks attribute system dictates that Amare has a higher overall rating than he really should.

This would tone down on a TON of the trades we're seeing from the CPU. If 2K won't remove overall for MyGM mode, the ratings system needs to be scaled back by a TON. Everyone, minus the superstars, are all hovering around the same overall level.

I posted this in another thread put it seems to fit here as well so I will say I will post it here, as well:

I'm around 11/20 in my current MyGm, sometime this weekend I plan on counting all of the players with low morale. I watch the NBA, but I can't say that I closely follow the league, so maybe you guys can help me out. How many guys (irl) are currently disgruntled (ie have "low morale"). I know Asik in Houston, but who else is upset about playing time? I'm pretty sure it's not guys like JJ Redick, Jarrett Jack, Courtney Lee, etc.

Furthermore, how many role players in the past have been upset and been able to effectively force their way out of town? Like I said, I don't know every players situation so maybe you guys can help me out, but from the list of mid-season trades last year how many of these guys where upset about their playing time?

In my opinion, Player Morale needs to be less about forcing trades and more about to willingness to resign. Trades should be tied to team need, salary dumps for rebuilding teams, etc.
Something like Gosens mentioned earlier like a "willingness to come off the bench" trait would be great for future iterations, but I'm not sure that could be implemented in 2k14. So my suggestion would be to (if possible) create a patch so that no player labeled as "Laid Back" could get low morale. Perhaps even tie it to ratings even more, so that no player rated lower than say 83-84ish could get low morale unless they are an Expressive player. Perhaps neither of those are perfect solutions, but I think that they would help alleviate most irks with MyGm this year.

Let me just say that there's a lot more going on behind the scenes than you assume, even with trades. But, like I said, examples of bad trades where the whole situation has been assessed and it doesn't make sense are always good feedback to look into. "This X player should never be traded for Y" is not a valid argument to me, unless you've assessed everything about the teams at that point and what they might be trying to do. If the contracts exchanged and the rosters of the two teams after the trade still don't make sense, then I'd like to know about it.

I have a few thoughts about player roles.

                                1. Player roles should definitely be more dynamic. I would like to see player roles change throughout the course of a career. As players get older they may change to being more laid back and willing to accept lesser roles compared to early in their careers. Also would like to see it tied to contract status. If a player is in a contract year they would be more demanding about their role versus somebody in the first year of their contract.

                                2. I feel that player roles and potential should be a range. Where you have some players willing to be anything from bench warmer to sixth man without being upset. Others only want to be treated as a star. I love what someone added about usage rage being a factor as well. Where someone like a Jamal Crawford is cool being a sixth man as long as when he does come into the game he's the focus of the offense.

                                3. With potential I think a heavy factor should be minutes played. I would love to see potential tied to minutes per game that a player receives or time and effort put in to them.

                                4. I think the player roles should be tied to how much you are winning as well. If a team is not winning then you hear way more grumbling from your players versus if your team is putting up a great record. This is where the range can tie in. If a guy is at the bottom level of his range, then things like team success can make him more content to be at the lower level of his player role range.

                                5. Coaching style and player preferred style would be a great feature. Some players should be designated with liking to run, or slower game. If they are paired with a coach that plays the opposite style that could or should lead to player frustration. I think something like that would tie in lovely with myGM so that who you hire as coach and lead to player morale dropping.
