In MY opinion, not on PRO or lower. In general, I say yes - but the target of those lower difficulty settings are meant to be STUPID easy. I really could not care less if those levels are dunkfests. Gets those 7 year olds into the game, so it's good for business. But higher settings should be realistic IMO.

I wish sbg would have tried this bs at team up and use the team up as a test run to get things fixed rather than a marketing ploy!Basketball Playbooks

Re: NBA 2K15 Gameplay...a bit worrisome
Right. What's funny is that I've always felt the dribbler is allowed to do MUCH more, physically difficult things, where the defender was not. Is this still the case? I've seen people complain that the defender shuffling is too fast. NOTE: I'm not talking about 2K15. 2K15 seems more balanced. When my friends and family get the game, I guess I'll get the answer to these questions.
I think this is one of those classic arguments of is realism sometimes a bad thing for video games and when does it become too much? I think in this case it is a bad thing. And for the record I said this at my 2k team up to devs that I didn't like or feel that the defense is balanced. I even referenced 2k11 and even 2k and 2k1. LolBasketball Playbooks

Re: NBA 2K15 Gameplay...a bit worrisome
Wait, these two statements seem to contradict each other. Was he able to do it "at will" or were you able to contain it? In RL, this is HARD to defend in open space. This is why you're coached to stop the ball as soon as possible - to slow him down and make him pick a side - normally away from the ball (make him change hands). It slows him down. Seems that the cross may not be slowing him down enough and help is really late.
I said "as i tried all kinds of defensive settings" meaning i was trying to see if there was an adjustment that could be made to make the cpu play this properly.
it obviously failed.
then i said, "manually i could contain it, but in transition there were too many things and players to manage to shut this tactic down".
And the crossover isnt hard, even at that speed, but the fact that the defender does not give ground is just plain stupid.Last edited by 2_headedmonster; 10-05-2014, 10:11 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K15 Gameplay...a bit worrisome
he should back-peddle and give ground, not sit there planted like an oak tree with the ball handler bearing down on him.
In that situation you give up the jumper not the lay-up. but in the game not only do they not give ground, they dont turn their hips and shuffle as fast as a user would.
In this example, its manageable to manually move the defender back. but in transition you have the ball handler coming, and people on the wings and a trailing big. Thats a tough situation to be in to not have the basic rule of "stop the ball" respected.Comment

Re: NBA 2K15 Gameplay...a bit worrisome
To me I can live with a little bit of un realism (is that even a word lol) with defenders sliding as long as it makes for a better video game and makes it more fun and realistic in the sense of the win/loss between offensive player and defensive player. That's probably why I loved 2k11 so much because you could play lock down defense and defense was fun although it wasn't really realistic with force fields and sliding but it worked ya know. It just felt good. And it wasn't over powered because you could still get around the defender.

Re: NBA 2K15 Gameplay...a bit worrisome
Definitely going to check this out myself when I get the game. If you think about last year, a lot of these situations would've resulted in a animation slowing you down when you're running full speed....so I am happy that looks to be gone....but I want make sure the proper tools are on place to stop this from being abused...
In all honestly, I am more concerned about the help D in this situation...Comment

Re: NBA 2K15 Gameplay...a bit worrisome
Chalmers had to go into the back court to gget that running start. Most guards would be able to get to the hoop if they had this start.
Of course, the guard should have backpedalled harder, and the help D should have been quicker, but that was on pro.Comment

Re: NBA 2K15 Gameplay...a bit worrisome
lol, should have backpeddled faster? he didnt back peddle at all.
And me going to the back court was to replicate the exploit i was experiencing after an inbounds after a made basket. Also, most guards wouldnt get to the hoop doing this because any defender with common sense would back peddle.Last edited by 2_headedmonster; 10-05-2014, 10:26 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K15 Gameplay...a bit worrisome
This is nothing new to me. When the community went and played the game early they all keep saying Zach LaVine is a beast.
What does concern me is WHY? And I'm not talking about LaVine scouting report from the NBA combine, I'm talking about gameplay.
Czar stated the number of these SC top ten plays would not been seen as much if you change the settings to Superstar Sim.
He also stated that the default setting is for the causal gamers.
Shouldn't the default be the closet to actual sim NBA basketball? This is a NBA game right? If the game was to hard for a casual gamer then they should have to practice. If they want more highlight plays let then be the ones to have to adjust their roster and tweak their sliders if they prefer to run a YMCA basketball type game.
It's seems that 2k15 will have the x/o for the sims players, but when playing online sim basketball gets trumped by "casual" players using these cheese moves with athletic players who avg 9 points a game and only started 1 game their whole college career.
I do not have the game but can only hope the new defensive setting will help combat these animations on defense.
I wish we could watch Czar play this guy STG in a online match. I know some people says he is terrible, but he may have advantage with by being a "casual" gamer.Comment

Re: NBA 2K15 Gameplay...a bit worrisome
When you sprint down court into a set defense, the AI help defense needs to recognize that and wall off the ball handler. Any starting PG can get a full head of steam and penetrate deep into the paint, but they wouldn't be able to pull up on balance, finish at the rim or dish it off, because it'd be a mess below the FT line.
Tony Parker and Rondo use this tactic for the one man fastbreak. They push it against the backpedaling D and if there is no high percentage opportunity they retreat and set it up. Sometimes this would result in the "secondary break" where the trailing players find opportunities with the D scrambling to react.
So the issue is not fully sprinting PGs getting past their man. It's the fact that the AI isn't reacting on ball or with help, the latter of which will really affect online play. Both affect offline play.
If you are able to play your man to his weak side, this tactic should wear out the starting PG and not produce enough buckets to be worth it, but for that to happen the AI help needs to react. If you're playing off ball, the AI guarding the ball handler needs to pick a side and attempt to ride the dribbler into help and be ready to contest or trap on the retreat.Comment
