Day two with it and the game play is stellar. The defensive awareness of the AI, transition threes, blocks, weight of the ball...all A+. On the user end I finally feel like any move I want to pull off in the post is doable without getting caught in an animation. Will definitely need to work on the new shotstick but game play has improved on all areas.

I was too at first but as I mentioned earlier, it honestly gets better as you get used to it, the timeouts "be a coach" etc.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I honestly think the game is amazing. The improvements all accross the board are impressive. The responsiveness, the smoothness of the animations, the contacts inside, the rebounding, the pullup game, the transition offense, the ball rim interactions. It's all so much better. I also love, absolutely love the new rim/swish sound fx, it's night and day. I can just shoot the ball in practice for 30 minutes and enjoy it.
My only issue would be the plays, players seem to take longer to get in position and plays development isn't as fluid as last year. Path finding has taken a step back in my opinion. Maybe that's because they improved collisions and player interactions but haven't improved path finding enough so that's why.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Played a few games,
+++positives+++
SOOO much more responsive. Players feel natural. More organic. better weight. Shooting feels great. After playing this year, I can now put a finger on what bugged me last year, and it was the opposite of what I just stated.
AI seems improved
Love the new menus and UI
Manual Substitutions are so much easier for me, thanks, I hated last years system, even though I got used to it.
----negatives----
Not many so far. My main was is, I don't care if you get rid of the Hi-school, anorexic body, But PLEASE patch Gordon Hayward to a different Body Type. I watch 70-75 Jazz games a year (3 in person) I'm a huge fan, and Hayward wasn't that skinny even at Butler. I apologize for focusing so much on this, but it honestly really bugs me, and it is hard to look at.
Might have to tweak a few sliders to get AI just right, but I am getting older, and might have to drop their shooting a tad
Overall Awesome impression so far. Devs should be proud (minus a few art decisions)Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
And also Hall of Fame is the way to go this year, only difficulity you get full ACE.
Will try it.
Currently I´m just lowered the shooting sliders and it´s get better, now both teams are close to 50% (CPU vs. CPU).Don´t play video games, play BasketballComment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Played four games so far and I like what I see:
- the first thing I noticed was the Shooting, especially the Catch & Shoot, it is fast, fluid, smooth, looks simply great
- in general, LOVE the CPU movement on Offense and how fluid the game plays
- Rebounding looks great, overall a lot of new animations
- CPU finally takes 3s without raising the slider to 100
FG% are too high (3 Games on Superstar, 1 on Hall of Fame), but I think this will be patched and if not, well, there are sliders.
The only real negative thing for me are the Post Game Highlights.
Last year they worked perfect (Xbox One), but this year the Player of the Game Highlight are very short and the individual Highlights are bugged it seems, some are extremely short and sometimes the screen gets black after a Highlight.
Anyone else having this on Xbox??
Anyway, overall Gameplay is great, honestly, hiring Czar might be the best move 2K has ever done.
I just hope they the don´t ruin the game with patches because some kiddies, who are not as good as they think they are, complain about the difficulity.
Glad you brought up the shooting % they're definitely way too high hopefully this is fixed soon

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
One thing i'm loving is that the difficulty is tied directly to the sliders. You have set difficulty sliders, rookie, pro, allstar, superstar, and hall of fame. They give the cpu shooting boost with the sliders instead of it being hidden in the game code like last year and the year before. ACE i really strongly believe is tied into the offensive awareness and defensive awareness sliders. Those sliders get's raised for the cpu each set difficulty level that you move up.
I'm not 100 percent sure this is the case with the difficulty, but i am about 90 percent sure that the case. I tested this out by plugging in the default simulation sliders from 2k16. The cpu played the most straight up game of hoops I've ever played in 2K (been playing since the first 2K on dreamcast). I recommend taking the time to plug in the default sim sliders from 2K16 if you're getting too high percentages. And for online play, 2K needs to use it's old default sim slider set instead of the default difficulty sliders.Comment

Bump Shooting release to 100. Helps CPU drive vs jackingComment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
It's amazing how a game that looks so similar to 2k16 can feel so different for some reason.
The graphics are the same. The animations are mostly the same even though there's heaps of new ones. But something invisible is different. I can't even explain it. The way that you go about getting certain results is different. It's different in ways that feel much more like genuine basketball
It's not overly apparent until you play it for a while. Then it's "hang on WOW why is this is so amazing"
The art team will have to step up next year to match this gameplay. Visually it's very pretty and everything (the newest player faces look good), but the suspension of belief is definitely there. It definitely looks like a video game rather than an authentic broadcast.
I suggest some sort of cinematic filter on it to make it look like it's a broadcast!
Needs a bit of blur, or sliiiight movement trails. Right now it's very digital lookingComment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Whether it's play now online or offline no matter if I use the on the fly coaching or in the huddle, none of the adjustments I make actually stick.
This is a pretty crippling issue. I have everything set to manual and ACE turned off.
PS4
All the defensive adjustments keep defaulting to
Some Crash, Some Run
Neutral Def
Auto.
Obviously there is a bugs thread but this seems like a big enough issue.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I feel like defense is much worse this year. I have played a couple of Gauntlet games as well as some Play now games against HOF CPU and the amount of contested shots (especially 3pts) that go in is crazy. I get it that 3pt shots are bread and butter of modern NBA, but this has to be fixed, because the game is just ridiculous at the moment.
Another thing that bugs me even more is the amount of steals the CPU is getting, resulting in a ridiculous amount of turnovers (anything between 15-20 TOs per 6 min match). I can't tell if it's because of the speed of the passes (not fast enough), which it probably isn't, as they feel faster than in 2k16, or if it is because the CPU players are all demigods with superman-like reflexes. Overall, I gotta say, despite all the praise the game is getting, I feel very disappointed about it.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Ran some Private All-Star Teamup last night.
Man, you reaaaaally need to stick to shooters. If they get a sliver of space, a good shooter will make you pay.
I went 2-2 from three with George Hill and 4 for 5 from three with Exum. The player controlling John Wall was constantly helping on Gallinari and Harden, who were monsters at getting into the paint.
Defenses definitely affect shots, but you actually have to go out and play tough, focused defense to get rewarded and I like that.

However, even with ACE off, it always resets. I don't think many people utilize them so you barely hear about it.
That and a SLIGHT reduction (Possibly FG% but I've seen CPU and me shoot as low as 36%) in green releases, step backs by AI and to me, the gameplay is perfect.
I hope the difficulty of this game doesn't cause a patch to make it easier. Also, I LOVE the way the CPU will shoot lots of 3's until you run them off the line...They take what you give them; that's real life.Comment
