Re: What Difficulty Level Are You On?

    Pros
    -Fluid Gameplay
-The A.C.E stuff is a thing of beauty
-New 1 to 1 rebounding animations
    -Improved court lighting
    Cons
-Shooting% is way too high ( too many And 1's) contested shots go in way to frequently
-At times defensive A.I doesn't recognize who they're suppose to guard
    - High School body type (( please 2k patch this)

Going to wait for that slider update from Mike before touching quick games again. I'm just going to grind for some badges....

Looks like Mike is really trying to fix it for us, thankfully. Definitely so grateful for his interaction here.

Now that we know how the custom slider thing works, (again, thanks Mike) I'm gonna work on some sliders for SS or HOF. I'll PM you with the results. Hopefully it'll save the game for you until the shooting update is official .

It's like playing an action game on the hardest difficulty and every bad guy becoming a bullet sponge.
          Short Version
I also said I finally beat the CPU on hall of fame difficulty. That means I had more failures on hall of fame than success. This is the honey moon phase for 2k17. I don't expect to be good. I am finally figuring out how to play 2k17. It requires me to be mentally active especially on defense. I must employ both on-ball and off-ball (more so off-ball than any other 2k basketball game that came before). I also said the shooting percentage might be a little high, but not impossible to drop the percentage. Difficult, but not impossible.

          Longer Version
There's a difference between playing offense and defense even if you have the best team in the league.

The point is to show that it's possible to hold down a team to realistic values with respect to the shooting percentages. Are the Warriors the best defensive team in the league? The opposition's shooting percentage is based on your ability to defend, fight around screen, contest shots, stay close with the offense (off-ball and on-ball). Plus, obviously, if the opposition isn't a great shooting team, it'll theoretically be "easier" to hold down their offensive percentage.

And to be fair, we all just got this game for 1 or 2 days. Is this really enough time to sink your teeth into the new game to understand how to attack and defend the cpu. The gameplay developer spent the entire development cycle implementing and polishing on the court gameplay mechanics and artificial intelligent tactics, and we're suppose to feel uneasy if we're struggling during week 1 of release week. It should take time to get a realistic handle on the cpu.

Back story: I normally play on the lowest or medium level for 2k basketball. I never dared to play on Hall of Fame. I finally tried it in 2k16. I had success and failures. Never thought I would be able to win or even come close on Hall of Fame.

I've been playing several games on Hall of Fame, and it appears I've got to use a different strategic approach when playing 2k17 than I have ever had to for prior 2k basketball games. Through my 2k17 experience, I realize that you're not going to be able to win simply playing on-ball defense. That is not going to work. I must continually survey the entire field and watch ALL players on the floor. I must control (using icon select) all players on the floor, or as best as I can. I must watch for off ball screens, watch the off-ball player movements, not just the ball handler. I must control the off ball defender to fight around and also anticipate the CPU screens. I must switch from on-ball defender to off-ball defender to truly defend the cpu. Never really had to do that before in a 2k basketball, or never really had to be as mentally active as I am playing previous 2k basketball games.

The above tactics is at least helping me keep the competition close. I'll reluctantly use the worst team in the league and go up against the Warriors or Cavaliers. Reluctantly because I always play with my hometown favorite team. I was born and bread in the Bay Area, so by default any Bay Area professional teams and collegiate teams is what I root for. Playing with any other team just seems wrong. I'll root for the Giants only if they don't play the A's. I'll root for the Raiders only if they don't play the 49ers.

Re: What Difficulty Level Are You On?

It looks like dropping the shooting sliders does make a difference. Not quite there yet, at all.

              Through 2 quarters I'm shooting 57% and the CPU at 61% .

Gonna do some more tinkering after this current game

EDIT: looks like you removed the video.

^that right there gets me too, but I simply say I'll get them next time. More importantly, I find it more effective to actually jump (triangle button) to contest their shots. I find the left stick or right stick (or whatever stick it is) hands up less effective at making them miss.

I also tried simply dropping the sliders to 45 for everything (both CPU and user) and that seems to help without having to work too hard in playing defense. More open shots missed by CPU and more crazy shots missed by CPU. It looks better, but I decided to go back to default hall of fame and simply play as best as I can.

What I'm noticing is, as the game goes on, if you let the ACE kick in and set some defensive settings on certain players, you can stop them.

The problem I'm noticing is the AI doesn't miss enough open shots. (reducing sliders helps this) NBA players miss wide open shots fairly often, and statistics back this up. Something needs to be adjusted within the game to better reflect the possibility of a miss on an open shot.

It doesn't seem rewarding to play good defense. As you saw in the video i posted before I removed it, I can't play much better defense in that situation. Shots like that fall WAY too often and with ease for the cpu. I really hope that gets fixed.

Sliders help, and I'm still tinkering, but it just seems like there's something going on under the hood on higher difficulty levels that negate the sliders.

That I can certainly agree with. I haven't really kept track of if wide open shots are missed, but I also can't recall the CPU missing any specific open shots. It's pretty much automatic on open jumpers. That is certainly a cause for concern. Even the best of the best shooters miss open shots from time to time. I know dropping the slider for shooting and 3 point shooting to 45 definitely helps. I simply dropped everything for both user and cpu to 45 for the first part of the settings option. Misses on open jumpers and crazy fade away, step back jumpers, etc.

I've got em both at 45 right now, and inside shooting at 40.

They're still shooting at too high a clip. Going to finish a few games before I make any changes, but I might have to drop down to 42 for mid and three.

I hate that I'm actually surprised when the cpu misses an open jumper. It's gotten to the point where I've stopped anticipating rebounds cause i know the shot is falling.

I'm still playing and messing around with sliders, but it seems to be getting better. Once i get a few games under my belt, I'll post the sliders I used if they're successful

Yes, I borrowed some settings from 2k16 sim sliders, but it's throwing off some of the mechanics of the game like speed and passing and player movement as weird as it sounds.

Going to play my next game with just edited shooting sliders, and edited consistency and awareness for the cpu and see how that goes
