These defensive issues better be addressed in the first patch if not before, I've lost some respect for the 2K team.

Ouch. That's pretty hard to argue with.

I put this game on the shelf and went back to Madden. Madden is a much better game than this game in its present state. This game is No Man's Sky 2K17, just broken all over the place. Rating this game in its present state this game is a 4 out of 40.

These videos essentially tell me their defensive AI is way behind, and we're going to have another year of artificiial boosts from the CPU defenders.
Same here, was really excited about the game on the first days , but I started noticing the CPU getting an insane amount of open shots out of nowhere (and converting like 85% of them), but didn't bother to stop and watch the replays to see why they were happening.

Just read this thread and saw the videos other users posted and now I understand everything. These videos have killed my desire to play the game until it's fixed. But I seriously doubt they do. Ai being dumb seems like a legacy issue, or maybe a limitation due to the current gen consoles crappy CPU. If sony/ms ever release a TRUE next gen console I would like to see 2k TOTALLY revamp the AI and for the love of god develop some kind of real physics/collision engine so we finally can say goodbye to the sliding, balls going through players' heads and unrealistic contact fouls among other issues.

They have been overambitious adding things to the game while also taking shortcuts and neglecting legacy issues. It's missing key basketball fundamentals.

I would love for them to spend one cycle just fixing and tuning, rather than adding and expanding, but it would never go over well because people would complain about how not enough has changed. Those on top at 2k would never allow for it either.

I am really hoping that the post release support is big this year. This is the first time I am actually regretting buying the game. As a strictly offline vs CPU guy, I just can't play it in it's current state.

Here are some highlights and brief comments from a game I just watched, CPU vs CPU. I do this every year when I get the game to see how the AI is. It is a game within a game for me to edit and tune sliders to max out the CPUs potential. I saw a couple of odd things and decided to start recording them, and after the game was over I ended up with 7 minutes worth of short clips of the AI just being plain awful. Trust me, I am not one of those guys who gets his kicks from hating on 2k. I have always loved this game, but I am losing my faith.

Just check this out. CPUvCPU on superstar default. This is all from the same game. Please forgive my terrible editing skills.

Not to go too off-topic, but I feel like this applies equally to MyLeague/MyGM. They've been great recently about adding fantastic new features (expansion, rebranding, advanced rotations, rule changes) but a TON of legacy issues haven't been addressed at all, or not nearly enough. Draft classes, draft logic, trade logic, player contracts (pretty unacceptable at the moment imo), rotation logic, and more are holding the game back to the point where the new features don't matter that much.

Same applies to the gameplay as you've masterfully pointed out. I get it--adding new features instead of spending a cycle focusing on the game already there is going to sell better to just about everybody except the kind of player that comes here. Doesn't make it any less disappointing though.

Don't get me wrong I'm still enjoying the game and these things aren't noticeable (or happen, as I've had plenty of successful drive and kicks, but that mostly happens due to the bad AI help defense) every time down the court. But when they do happen they're so obvious and really ruin the experience.

2K devs should ba ashamed of broken AI defence. It's seems to me they just did not have time and will to test this game. Honestly, how can I encouter and find almost all bugs and flaws which people talking about by myself as one person, and 2k can't test it and fix it before release?

                          How?

You may not have realised, but the game comes out september EVERY year full of bugs....it is always rushed and has issues. Always.

Then Beluba releases a monster patch or two by Oct / Nov and fixes it.

If you have played this game for as long as I have, you just accept that this is the eay it is. Anyone who does not want bugs and AI errors should basically just wait until Beluba's patches drop.

I simply look at September each year as a chance to learn the plays and controls.

                            NBA season starts October anyway.

To be frank - if you knew that you could release something every 12 months and make very respectable money from said sales, you'd do it too. The hollow promises of new features and reworked issues that have plagued your previous titles wouldn't really impact sales, so you'd probably also do exactly that. Sing praises of your newest effort and how last year was simply not up to par, so you've worked it all out, knowing all the while you're simply not telling the truth.

It's obvious that the focus on fixing legacy issues and the basic concept of NBA simulation defense isn't even remotely close to a priority. I say this because there have been the same issues in all game modes haunting the title for years, yet here we are complaining. More obvious proof, simply put, is that we're expected to believe that this group of well educated, intelligent men and women can't nail down these issues after years. Years. This is not behavior that people typically accept or excuse. I'd have to say that if any of us were to routinely fail and lie about it time after time, we'd be fired. So either they truthfully can't fix the issues and just find ways to lie about it and hang shiny new features in our face, or they choose not to fix it. Either way they win because we all just line up to hand them our money regardless of past disappointments.

For the record I believe they can fix it, but it would take a lot of work. Possibly missing out on a dev cycle and thus losing a lot of cash. The obvious choice is to just continue and make money, which I can't blame them for. I'd just appreciate transparency.
