Re: The FUNDAMENTAL issue with 2k17's AI Defense

This is my last 2k game if this isn't fixed. Call it an overreaction, but I can't even play in this current state. The game is too deep for it's own good while lacking many fundamental elements. I'll play/watch one more game, make one more video in hopes that 2k sees it, but I've learned my lesson and won't buy the game on release anymore. This is really disappointing.

I encourage everybody to put out as many videos as possible. There are bad things happening nearly every possession. I hate to be this guy, but who tests this? How is this overlooked? I would gladly come down and test the game for FREE. That is how much I want this game to play well. The best thing we can do as a community is to compile as much footage as we can to pinpoint exactly what the main problems are and hope that the devs can find out exactly why they are happening.

Look for another video coming soon. Thanks to everyone who watched my first one, it's nice to know that I am not alone in seeing these things.

Let's do what we can to help.

Re: The FUNDAMENTAL issue with 2k17's AI Defense

One of 2 things are happening on nearly every possession. 1) A defender is getting stuck on his own teammate with no urgency to get around them, or they are "mario running" into a defensive player, most often who is not even setting a screen 2) Someone is leaving their man wide open to help in the paint when not needed. I am recording all of this...

I wonder if it would help to give each player the pick dodge badge? At least for a temporary bandaid. But the thing is that it's not just happening on picks, players are getting stuck to each other during regular off ball movement. I am just desperate to at least find a temporary bandaid for this.

This is really bad. Video coming soon. This time I am just focusing on defensive AI issues.

As for the defensive AI, I'm with everyone else here. It blows. After putting in so much time, the issues with user teammates AI leaving men wide open, taking bad angles and just flat out having constant brain farts is becoming a glaring issue. It's almost like spotting the cpu 10 points a game cause they get those wide open looks to often at the mercy of the AI.
You guys are right about Beluba for that I stand corrected, it was late. Back on topic. If u turn ace off does that fix it? I know I don't wanna turn it off either but jus asking.

The AI is just too quick to double team. And a majority of the doubles come from one pass away which is not a good thing

You all know that you CAN turn down HELP D in the coaches settings?
There's still no way to change the coach settings in MyCareer, which is the most popular offline mode in the game.

So everyone who plays MyCareer is stuck with terrible help defense AI.

I agree, but it's much worse than just this. Defenders are getting stuck on offensive players who are just moving to their spot and not even setting a pick. They aren't fighting at all to get to their man. Defenders are also getting "picked" by their own players too often. As a result there are too many wide open jump shots. When you couple this problem with the CPU AI iso-ing and dribbling too much, along with on ball defenders morphing into unrealistic positions, it really throws the offense and defense out of whack.

Actually, there is that "Be the Coach" mode that pops up when you're really hot. You get to change a whole bunch of settings. I'm wondering if this ever becomes standard for the mode. I don't think I saw them talk about this very much, but it's a really major addition. It's tough, because there has been a lot of radio silence on 2k's end, so it's hard to engage these issues reasonably for an extended period of time.

I agree. The game is doing a poor job offball interaction right now. I even say that defenders do a poor job of fighting over offball screen. Defensive spacing in this game just needs to continue to improve

So it's something that only pops up during gameplay? I've tried checking the pause menu and all of the d-pad commands but I don't see any way to change defensive settings in MyCareer.

I was going to capture plays from a whole game, but I think one quarter will suffice. Again, this is CPUvCPU on default superstar with the 2k roster.

Here we go again. Defenders getting stuck on other players and defenders helping when not needed. If you need to see more, just play the game and watch the replays. These things are happening at a very high rate. This was all recorded from one quarter of gameplay.

It's in the timeouts. It says Be the Coach in the upper left corner. You press SQUARE(or X, I assume) and you get all of the single player settings. It's great. I switched to a 4 out 1 in on offense and we absolutely shredded w/ pick and rolls.

Weird I'm in a game right now with orange juice active, the grand playmaker badge active, and microwave heat active, but when I call a timeout, there's nothing except the usual timeout screen where I can't do anything but wait out the timer.

I can switch offenses on the fly already because I'm a point guard. But I'd like to be able to adjust the help defense sliders that exist in the other 5 v 5 modes. The d-pad commands on defense only let me switch between different types of zone and man defense.

I'm at the end of January, leading in RoY voting and averaging 18ppg on almost 70% shooting and it has only happened for me twice. I'm a SF and I could only make these adjustments during the timeouts.

Maybe unlocking the On Court Coach badge will make that Be the Coach prompt appear more frequently during timeouts? I don't have that badge unlocked yet and I can't recall ever seeing that prompt before.

Great video. I'm seeing all these things on a consistent basis. I'm going to have to shelve this game until the first patch drop. Its a shame because I had very high hopes for this game.

I don't think I've ever used the teem "broken" on this site. Unfortunately, until these defensive AI issue are fixed, if they can be fixed, the game is borderline unplayable against the CPU
