Re: NBA 2K17 Defensive Settings Community Wiki

Screen help rules? I still can wrap my head around this. When we go to player X settings are we setting help rules for when he has ball or for when he is not involved. I know we are supposed to set for Help no rotate for shooters, and auto for non. Why? What's logic behind that? It seems what we are trying to do is not leave certain guys open? If this setting is for the ballhandler then it makes no sense. If Rondo has ball and we set to Auto which is help and rotate...How do we know that Butler won't be open somewhere?

Set Butler to Tight or Deny off ball and set other players you don't mind leaving on Moderate or Gap.

The setting is for the ballhandler. There is no way to choose different a tions on each screen setter.

Team Defense: Shrink the Floor: Man to Man You will play "GAP" defense on the man you're guarding. On a SCREEN you will go UNDER and your teammate will perform a HARD HEDGE

This is your Team Defense, now if you went into GAMEPLAN and changed how you defend the Screen i.e. Switch Rules you may have changed, how you defend the screen i.e. ICE, go over, ect.. on a particular player because defensive settings override ACE defensive behavior, so your "Shrink the Floor" will not look like Shrink the Floor, because you edit your defensive settings.

You just deviated from "Shrink the Floor" now in addition to Team Defense, if you have your "FOCUS" on a player i.e.

Kyrie Irving Boxes and Elbows: Of course boxes and elbows will be based on the offender's position on the floor but the principles are still in play.

Boxes and Elbows: Two guys on elbows, two on block. Man concept. Make offensive player see bodies. Used to stop stars. Would not use when there are a lot of shooters. Looks like a zone but a man concept with lots of distance from other players. You see a lot of one pass away help, giving up the shot elsewhere. If a guy isolates up top a lot then this is an option online.

Now within your defense you have 2 jobs, 1 is to "Shrink the Floor" on everyone except when Kyrie has the ball your defense morphs into "Boxes and Elbows".

              So, what do we know?
              1. Editing your Defensive settings in the Gameplan overrides the actions based on the ACE you called.

What does this do the defense? what does your editing do to the defensive rotation and communication if you are out of place? We have not gotten an answer to this, and this is one of my issues with all the guessing and assumptions made, Defensive Editing Changes the scheme in my mind.

don't want this to be to long but you get the gist of what I'm saying.
Did we ever solve this riddle?? If I have my gameplan/Poe before game in coaches gameplan set to protect paint then in game I choose to take away 3s. What happens? Also, will it stay this way once changed in game? I keep ACE off too.

I get torched by 1 guy every game and have no idea which setting are sticking. I feel like the pause then gameplan defensive settings work but the in game focus on and timeout menu doesn't.

Thank you for the videos, but the issue is there are so many different "defensive settings" videos that they kinda contradict each other. One video says to input one set of settings, while another totally contradicts that and says "no, do it this way".

I just want a basic set of settings with rotation, help, hedge, and on/off ball screen that I can use and make tiny adjustments depending on if a player is a 3 pt shooter or whether he drives to the basket.

All these videos have me completely and thoroughly confused now.

how can you trigger that animation where you can go under/over a screen seamlessly?

when i try to go under screens i pretty much go around it..and that leaves my defense in shambles. my big switches with the pg and then my other wing defender rotates to defend the paint when the big rolls leaving somebody open all the time.

this always happens when i face cpu and they run screen and roll. when i let the cpu defender control my pg i see some animation where they'll go under the screen(okc default gameplan i think) but wont take as long as i do.

i dunno how else to explain it..its like when i go under i move in a circular motion and cpu moves horizontally without wasting too much steps..so when the big hedges theres time to recover.

Re: NBA 2K17 Defensive Settings Community Wiki

You know what, 2K added so many defensive options (many of them don't work properly and some we still do not know how it fully works), that playing defense this year has become a nightmare.
I find extremely difficult to play good defense the whole game and find my CPU teammates do so many stupid things during the game, that down the line I usually see myself in a huge disadvantage against the CPU.
By the way, opponent CPU plays much better defense than teammates CPU, which is very frustrating.
I am thinking about quitting this game this year. I've had my fill.
This thread is a confirmation of a failed defensive system this year. Guys still don't know what to do to stop so many defensive problems.
2K, stop adding modes and work on making gameplay better. Gameplay is the most important thing in a basketball game and without that you have a very bad product.

Re: NBA 2K17 Defensive Settings Community Wiki

Thank you for this thread. My MyLeague expansion grizzlies played noticeably better defense after setting each team's defense. Now the only think I have to guard against is those off ball screens. While it's sad 2k's auto settings can't play good defense out of the box, at least we can get it to play competent defense with the settings.

The simple changing the screens, to go under on all and soft hedge on all, alone helps a ton. And then setting what I call star player matchups is huge. So unless they are a star or a really good shooter I leave the players alone but if they are a star or shooter I go to smother/deny or tight/tight. It took over an hour but worth it. Thanks Itchyroll and others for all the great info in this thread for making my experience better.

Played a game vs GS in PNO. Player was actually good!

Called a bunch of PnR, and was always getting a wide open Klay or Draymond in the corner.

I have ACE on, but set my D to play straight up - as by default was protect the paint.

                            Didn't make a difference.

I read that with the most recent patch, if you do individual help settings, it will mess up the rotations, so was completely at the mercy of whether he could make an open 3 in the corner. Even then, I have no idea what these individual settings do because the wording is so weird.

Does anyone know how to stop your players from helping and leaving players wide open in the corner?

I fancy my chances of Curry trying to lay it up over Gortat and Wall off a PnR way more than I do of praying Klay misses an open corner 3.

From memory they funnelled teams into the Wallaces down low, so go over picks and don't hedge.

I know Sheed said they'd beat GS, but you can't with that strategy.

Like if I was playing the warriors small ball is there a way I could make it so we help off iggy and no one comes to rotate over essentially just letting him shoot open jumpers
