I am still trying to figure out the best setting for Defensive strength and box out strength in regards to playing in the park and in pro am games. I usually turn both down to 0 because I like to free lance without restrictions but noticed playing defensive strength on 50 (half), my player played much better defense in the park last night.

Just in case anyone already thought of it: i tried to enable 'extend pressure' on opposing bigs in hope they would be picked up properly so they could not have an easy dunk two seconds after they inbound the ball... it didn't work... in fact, it's gotten way worse... so stay away from thatNBA - Denver Nuggets

My hunch is that not hedging negates the chance of any rotations if your big guy (the one dropping back) gets beat or is out of position.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Defensive Settings Community Wiki
Catch Hedge and No Hedge are pretty similar as far as positioning of the hedge man are concerned, so help is unlikely to be needed in these situations on the drive.
What you're giving up with this scheme though is a wide open shot for the ball handler if the screen is successful.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Defensive Settings Community Wiki
That's probably true. If you remember, OG said in his stream that Catch Hedge will cause help to not come since the hedge man is then taking on responsibility for both the straight line drive by the ball handler and the roll man.

One area the CPU could improve on is doubling on mismatches in the post. If Ive forced a switch, I can throw it in to my big (on their PG) and he will be able to back in as close as he wants with no double.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Defensive Settings Community Wiki
Scenario, help me with the hypothetical and see based on information we have received.
Team Defense: Shrink the Floor: Man to Man You will play "GAP" defense on the man you're guarding. On a SCREEN you will go UNDER and your teammate will perform a HARD HEDGE
This is your Team Defense, now if you went into GAMEPLAN and changed how you defend the Screen i.e. Switch Rules you may have changed, how you defend the screen i.e. ICE, go over, ect.. on a particular player because defensive settings override ACE defensive behavior, so your "Shrink the Floor" will not look like Shrink the Floor, because you edit your defensive settings.
You just deviated from "Shrink the Floor" now in addition to Team Defense, if you have your "FOCUS" on a player i.e.
Kyrie Irving Boxes and Elbows: Of course boxes and elbows will be based on the offender's position on the floor but the principles are still in play.
Boxes and Elbows: Two guys on elbows, two on block. Man concept. Make offensive player see bodies. Used to stop stars. Would not use when there are a lot of shooters. Looks like a zone but a man concept with lots of distance from other players. You see a lot of one pass away help, giving up the shot elsewhere. If a guy isolates up top a lot then this is an option online.
Now within your defense you have 2 jobs, 1 is to "Shrink the Floor" on everyone except when Kyrie has the ball your defense morphs into "Boxes and Elbows".
So, what do we know?
1. Editing your Defensive settings in the Gameplan overrides the actions based on the ACE you called.
What does this do the defense? what does your editing do to the defensive rotation and communication if you are out of place? We have not gotten an answer to this, and this is one of my issues with all the guessing and assumptions made, Defensive Editing Changes the scheme in my mind.
don't want this to be to long but you get the gist of what I'm saying.Last edited by Impetuous65; 10-13-2016, 10:40 AM.Comment

Not only do we not have real explanations to describe what all these things do, we don't know how the different ways to input defensive strategies interact with, overlay or cancel each other out.
We have the defensive settings pause menu options, and also the time out/quick adjustment options, and they are not the same systems. So how do they work together? How can we use them to set up a desired result on the floor?
2K isn't saying.Comment

The screen help settings will take a while. It is not as straight forward as help rules. I may need a lab partner for this setting.Psn: Alabamarob

Agreed, any initial findings? I tried to do some testing last night, but it seemed to not have much of an effect. Help only seemed to come if Help Rules was set to on as well.GT: minibeast100

The issue is when is the screen over and when is your man considered open for the screen help rules to apply? So you have a variety of variablesPsn: Alabamarob

Re: NBA 2K17 Defensive Settings Community Wiki
Its not something he can answer. Ha. I think the help no rotation will be very detailed sensitive. The hedge coverage, direction of screen amongst other things will all affect the screen rules. So i am trying to find a very vanilla coverage to compare from.Psn: Alabamarob
