See the discussion going on in the comments preceding your video though. We have multiple people saying that the Help settings are for when the selected player is the ball handler, which is the opposite of what your video is saying.

They are "Help on this guy" not "Help off of this guy". It appears at the moment we have no control over who the help defender is apart from the Off-Ball pressure settings (someone on Gap is more likely to help than someone on Tight).
Yes i read those. But if you see the CPU Lowry help on lebron clip while staying close to Kyrie. That's help defense with tight off ball isn't it ? As for the help screen rules i believe those only apply to PnRs so when a screen is set.

LOL 2K making us out here guessing everyhting. When i have to guess that's insane, no body puts time in this stuff like i do from video standpoint and even i am LOST lol .... sigh ....

Extra note: Watch my Jonas and Jonas + Carrol help clips. I was able to control where help comes from in this video. It always came from the Center and PF's defenders as long as off ball is on AUTO with HELP RULES on auto plus POE as Shrink and Physical.

It took me less than 5 minutes to do. All you have to do is turn on two controllers at once. Pick one player on each team to help on drive and walk slowly into the paint. Its clear the help rules apply to the ballhandler. I will post a video since there seems to be some confusion.

If my understanding of this is correct, I'll try to interpret why it played out the way it did with your settings. Let me know if there are any other clips with help by the CPU that I missed in your video.

        Assumptions
        • Screen Help Rules apply when a pick and roll happens with the gameplanned player as the ball handler.
        • Help Rules apply when the gameplanned player drives with no pick and roll.
        • Someone on Gap is more likely to help than someone on Moderate/Tight. Only someone with Off-Ball Deny will never help.
        • With Off-Ball set to Auto and Shrink the Floor selected as your defensive package, the Off-Ball pressure setting essentially becomes Gap.

        Instances of CPU Help
        • Dunleavy drive at 7:51: Help comes because Help Rules are set to Help on Dunleavy. Jonas is the most likely help man because he is set to Auto (Gap with STF).
        • Lebron Drive at 8:00: Help comes because Help rules are set to Help on Lebron. Jonas is the most likely help defender since he is set to Gap. Jonas rotates over as soon as Lebron has an angle. Lowry shows on Lebron because Kyrie is set to Tight (not Deny) and Lebron is in the vicinity.
        • Kyrie Drive attempt at 14:00: Help comes because Help rules are set to Help on Kyrie. Carroll helps because he set to Tight Off-Ball on Dunleavy. Hard to tell, but it looks like Jonas may have also tried to help before you switched and did it manually as well (set to Gap because of STF).

Hopefully we get some clarification on this from OG on his next stream. As I stated before, we cannot explicitly select the help man. We can only influence if help will come with our Off-Ball Pressure setting. Even with this, it is not as simple as "A player set to Gap will help before a player set to Moderate"... It seems that the CPU also takes into account where the ball is on the court and how close defenders are to the action.

The more time we spend spinning around on this the more ticked off I get at 2K for not doing any proactive education and communications on this.

Not only is it disrespectful to us as the hard core fan base, it's disrespectful to people like OG and Czar and all the hard working engineers behind all this stuff who put in long hours and late nights to get things in the game.

I'm pretty understanding and patient but I'm running out of goodwill.

Amen to that. The least they could do is have someone chime in when we have these topics going on in the forums for weeks and tell us if we are correct or not.

We're nearly a month into the game and we're still discussing topics that could be clarified in two sentences. We don't need a 30 page blog for everything.

Really enjoying this thread. I know it's been asked and I have some idea, but if I turn ACE off and I'm playing the computer, will it turn ACE off for the computer too?

I've tried playing with Sam Phan's settings and they really help.

Also, I was watching his video about playing online and noticing he was using catch hedge instead of soft hedge for the actual screen. Is that what's recommended against the CPU?

When you say "ballhandler," though, I find that unclear. Are you assuming Curry is the ballhandler because you are making assignments to Curry? Because if the settings you apply to Curry apply to the "ballhandler" and Curry is not the active ballhandler, that's different (I think) from what you are saying.
Haha. You are to smart for yourself DC. The BALLHANDLER is the guy driving the ball. Whoever is driving the ball you set that person's help rules on that Driver's/BALLHANDLER'S screen. So when Curry drives the rules controlling if you supply help on Curry's drive will be on HIS individual defensive settings screen. So if Curry is NOT the ballhandler the HELP RULES on his screen are irrelevant .

I would like an explanation also, but it isnt hard to figure out. The trick is to just play user v. User to take the CPU variable out of it.

REMEMBER SCOTT SAID TEAMS HAVE DIFFERENT PHILOSOPHIES. So I wouldnt put much value in being able to consistently control where the help will come from the same way with every team. G State will have tottally different help PHILOSOPHIES then the Grizzlies. Scott said the key is figuring out your team's philosophy.

Rim Runner is 99% always the guard because he leaks out ahead of the front court. The problem this creates is by default according to Da_Czar the offense is by default engineered to look for 3's. They really need to rethink this philosophy, especially when the "RIM" isn't being threatened. I'm no Defensive Basketball Guru, but I do know what I see. When your perimeter players in transition are retreating to guard a space instead of a man "ALL THE TIME" and when the opposing teams perimeter player have a mindset to unleash 3's by even suspect 3 point shooters we have a problem. Like Da_Czar changed his transition offense(ACE update) to at least have some players fill the lane to drive to the basket instead of flaring out to the corners for 3's, Scott needs to really get with an engineer and reevaluate "RIM RUNNER". He can leak out, sprint to the nail and turn around and access the situation, instead of blindly running to the Rim.

And fix the stop and start animation on defense, this has made me put this game down and thankfully I'm playing DriveClub VR until this gets fix.

You guys are doing way more than is necessary, basing on my experience. Look, off consistency at 25 for cpu/ai, 'tight' for on ball pressure, 'gap' for offball, play passing lanes at 100, go for on ball steals at 75. Do these things and rollers will be almost always picked up, drives will be harder (nearly impossible against some teams), and fg percentages will hardly ever exceed 50. The closeouts with this gapping strategy are actually, shockingly, not bad.

Ok. After several years of watching 99.9% of my online opponents turbo off in bounding the ball and slam into the lane over and over and over...I think I have finally found a solution in settings. It's the the new setting "extend pressure". You need to do it for both PG and SG. It will look like a Full court press but it's not and your opponent most definitely will think you're running it. Basically just user whoever is inbounding the ball (SF,PF,C). He will likely try to throw over top..just buffer him with who you are usering or trap or pick it off. Works really well because your bigs keep to their assignments (for the most part) at the other end of the floor. Your opponent will think he can throw over the top and have an advantage like he would if a press is on. Remember the only 2 players applying pressure are the guards and you also have the guy you user to keep him in check. Works beautifully. It doesn't necessarily create turnovers but the smart ones eventually chill out and slowly bring it up and realize they'll have to beat me straight up. I feel like a prick doing it, but after years of watching this garbage..it's the only option.
Most players will become frustrated after halftime because they're out of their comfort zone and I've already seen a ton of outrageous rage nonsense. I can get some video on how it works if you guys want. I can finally play with player lock cam online. I feel like it's the most immersive. But is impossible with my opponent running around like he is high on methamphetamine.
**SamPham and other Youtubers please don't make a video of these settings. Let's keep it in house. Thanks.**
