Re: NBA 2K17 Defensive Settings Community Wiki

When playing MyLeague or MyGM, does anyone have a specific defensive setting they tend to set up?
I have all mine on like auto all I believe, but that's just because I haven't changed anything. I would like to change some of these to help my defense some, but would love to see what other people have as their set up

Adjust it by your team. I usually play with 2 bigs on the floor so I go over screens and don't hedge my big. I give up mid range and pick and pops, but you got to give up something.

Has anyone noticed how the AI can be slow to return to their assignment on the perimeter when they help on ballhandler drives or tagging on pick-and-rolls? I'm talking about the AI-controlled team, not my team. It makes it to easy to drive and kick. Kind of a gamebreaker.

        I don't have a specific video on-hand, but I noticed this:

        <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/BvgV6EMvEwU" allowfullscreen="" height="315" frameborder="0" width="560"></iframe>

See how hard Wes Matthews closes out on the kickout pass at about 0:27? I can never get the AI to do that. The defender just stays where he was when he helped.

I do hope the switching is made tighter. I can get it to work sometimes, but not all the time. Sometimes my CPU teammate does not recognise the switch, and when you play the Warriors, you're dead.

Yep any team with shooters. I switch my guy, but the CPU teammate stays with his guy, suddenly Durant or Curry are left wide open.

Perhaps this is dependent upon ratings/tendencies maybe? For instance; low ratings in help def, def consistency, hustle, shot contest, obd iq, defensive tendencies, etc. (And maybe also related to each team defensive scheme.)

That being said, the pick and roll is the toughest action to defend in the NBA. Especially with a strong roller like DJ. The weak-side corner or wing must rotate to prevent an easy lob or pocket pass. A great playmaker (CP3) will create an open shot in this instance more often than not. PnR basketball is another reason why so many 3's are being taken in today's league.

I definitely see your point though, but I have seen CPU make adjustments defensively via ACE. They just aren't consistent or accurate enough, yet. Still, we are far ahead of the days where there was no weak-side effort to stop the PnR. Hopefully ACE on the defensive side continues to become more intelligent.

That's not necessarily the case. That's one reason why the screener's defender will often sag into the paint. It blocks the pass to the screener but also allows him to step up and contest (admittedly late) if the ballhandler pulls up for a jumper and his defender can't get back to him in time. But really, a Chris Paul semi-contested mid-range jumper is by far the lesser of all evils, which is why he gets so many of them.

In any case, I find it far too easy to abuse the AI and get open shots using pick-and-roll at will. If anyone has had success making the AI competent defensively against pick-and-rolls, I'd love to hear how you did it.

One thing I'd love to see added to 2k's controls is a "switch" button, as in switch defensive assignment (actually there are a bunch of things I'd love to change, I'll probably make a thread about it at some point). You press the button, and whichever opponent is closest to you (aside from the one you were already guarding) becomes your new assignment, and whoever was guarding that guy takes over your old assignment.

I've spent the better part of the last three days trying to solve this, and I've completely failed. I'd be ready to give up if it wasn't for this video. Does anyone have any ideas?

If the AI can't even close out hard on kickouts, they're just not worth playing against.

Not sure what is going on but I have a problem I was hoping you guys could help with.

Every game regardless of who it is I am playing the game sets my SF to guard the opposing team's PG while my PG takes the SF.

Now at first I just thought it was a strategic decision because I started the year playing the Hornets and my PG is not a good defender at all. So even though my SG is my best perimeter defender I thought the game was being smart and putting my weak defender on MKG (Hornet's weakest offensive threat).

But then I played the Clippers who now have Durant and my poor 6'0" sub-par defender PG was stuck trying to guard KD while my SF had Austin Rivers (Paul now on 76ers).

ACE is on and I haven't touched any option (prefer not to do that during the regular season). If I go in and manually change it the settings instantly revert back. It is causing me nothing but headaches. Is there a solution (preferably other than turning ACE off)?

I dont think so. This is the most silly logic implemented for 2K16 and carried over to 2K17 eg. C. Paul taking KD? Lol not all teams play like the warriors with Bogut taking Allen and it only happened during the playoffs that year, and 2K put in such defensive strategy for almost every team (Pacers too)

Anyway I'm fine with manual adjustment of the Poe so Ace is off for me.

Yeah I went ahead and turned ACE off when I started a game against the Cavs and my poor PG was matched up with James.
