This is not a strictly defensive settings question but I guess it's still appropriate to ask within this thread: Have you guys found it hard to play good on-ball defense, especially against guards and small forwards, i.e. quicker players? Last year I played on-ball defense almost all the time and to a great effect, but this year I feel the opponent can get past me very easily. Lateral movement is pathetic and lag doesn't help sometimes. I am off-balling more and more but I am afraid it will cost me against good players. Any suggestions or tips? Or should I just practice more?

I think one mistake I was making was trying to follow the ball handler. The job is to get to where they want to be before they get there. Essentially playing defense at an angle. It's the only way to play "good" defense because trying to stay in front of an offensive superstar allowing the offense to play at an angle and get by you.

One good way to practice defense, in my opinion is play Blacktop... you have to deal with a lot of mismatches, so u have to learn how to guard a big with a small guy and vice versa... is fun.....

UGH. How do I get my guys to just play solid, realistic defense against the CPU? I don't care if I get scored on by GOOD offense. But this TERRIBLE defense is frustrating because I feel like I have no control over if I win or lose.

Some problems I face multiple times a game are:
            - My teammates will stop running back at like the 3 point line even though their man keeps crashing to the hoop leaving WIDE open layups. Makes no sense.

            - My teammates will sometimes bolt out to the 3 point line even if their man broke to the paint?? lol

            - My teammates will be following someone off a back screen but then just randomly stop right under the basket even though their man ran to the corner 3.. then my teammates will just stare at them while they take a wide open 3.

That's just few of the ridiculousness. I just want them to play solid defense and stay on their guy..

I love this game. I play it every day - but the defensive lapses drive me crazy at times. Many, Many times. But I found a way to minimize the rage:

              1) I make NO defensive adjustments. Not one. All are set to auto [default.] The only thing I adjust is setting individual matchups. IMO - the settings don't work as well as advertised and I think the game works better consistently when the CPU handles the adjustments

              2) I play offball against the CPU more than I have in the past [which was never]. I can almost anticipate when the CPU AI is about to do something stupid like leave a star player wide open or pick up the wrong man on a fast break. My overall defense is better because of it.

              3) I tweaked the CPU passing accuracy and my teams' play passing lanes aggressiveness to combat those pinpoint down the the court passes that induce rage always from the CPU.

Not a perfect solution - but at this point I accept the game for what it is and I'm having a ton of fun with it.

Totally agree with you bro. On-ball, off-ball defense is the answer to the so called CPU's defensive glitch. If you're aware of your player's position offensively, you should also be aware of their stand defensively. If you focus on the ball handler, but leaving the paint open, opponent gets an easy two. If you focus in the paint, letting your shooting guard be screened by their bigmen, they get a wide open three. I think in playing 2k17, you should be the player (skills), and the coach (over all seeing the floor movement) as well. I always see a point made by the CPU opponent my defensive breakdown, not a game glitch. You win some, you lose some.

Yep, I was at that stage last year where I heard you need to make defensive adjustements. True, you get massive advantage over HUMANS when you set it up correctly, but not vs cheesy AI.

I let the AI handle the offense/defense playcalling and Defensive Gameplay I only do slight changes (3/4 Bottom in Post, Help on defense and No Rotation on screens). Nothing else. Seems to work fine at least vs CPU (NBA 2k16 that is).

I mean, the amount of **** AI throws at you at times is ridiculous and it doesn;t; matter what sliders you use .

These are supposedly in Defensive settings but I cant find them:

                        • Extending Your Pressure
                        • Tagging on Rolls

                        Has anyone found them?

At the bottom of the page in the pause menu defensive setting, viewable when you set your choices for individual players.

I was playing Pacers against Nets and right at start, PG guards the Nets best perimeter player, J. Lin. After sub out PG, M. Ellis switched to guard J. Lin.

I havent been following the pacers irl. Are they switching up like the warriors (Klay guarding the opposing team point guard) and spurs do?

                            Ace in effect!

Here you go i know Lorenzo already told you but if you wanted a visual here is an example.

Once you change the defensive settings on a player it's right at the bottom.

if i set my team defensive settings to ice every on ball screen...yet go to individual matchups and say play under on a non shooter how does that work out?

                                does it confuse the ai?
