Fair enough, I just figured he would have an idea as if (and when) the Screen Help Rules would trigger instead of the Help Rules.

A side note: When I initially played 2K 17 for the first time and explored the defensive settings, I originally thought that Screen Help Rules was meant to describe helping on off-ball screens, like a big jumping out while the guard can get around a down screen, then recovering back to his man. Has anyone tested this out to see if it has any effect on this?

(This thought has nothing to do with anything anyone has said on this forum or anywhere else, it is just how I thought the setting was meant to work on day 1)

I would think that Screen Help rules apply when you run a PnR with that player. Say that Curry runs a PnR with Zaza. I'd think that the only help rule setting that matters is Curry's Help Rule Screen setting.

But, if Catch Hedge and No Hedge have similar positioning, with the main difference being that there will not be any help defense, does that mean that Catch Hedge auto-selects which Screen Help Rule applies? One could test if there's a difference by selecting Catch Hedge, then testing with either No Help or Help Screen Help Rules.

        Guarding your man and distance

Deny and Smother are obvious, it represents it self well in the game.

Tight can some post a pic of "tight" defense on and off ball. Is it an arms length away? is there a min or max like 2 feet min to 3 feet max.

Gap what is the Gap Defense min max? I noticed Scott said if you are playing Gap, be careful you don't gap to far off because that will signal to the CPU AI to cover the man you should be covering. He will leave his assignment to cover the ball.

I ask these questions because I want to spy on my AI team mates to see what type of defense we are in and then I can assess the situation better.

I understand wanting to make these games as real as possible I get it. But it's a video game and I want to play not be a coach they should have just kept it how it was on 2k15 now you have to make adjustments over think and before you know it 3 hours goes by and your still playing Staring at the game plan screen debating if you should use a hard or soft hard hedge. Lol don't get me wrong I like the game but sometimes I just want to play and not worry about if I should switch, pre-rotate, hedge or ice on screens.

Yeah I hear you. Try playing with ACE on and set your coaching settings to auto for everything. I'm serious. I actually tried and played a pretty decent game that way last night, to my surprise.

ACE on Auto everything, is my preferred way to play. This is why it pains me that 2K doesn't talk about this "NEW" system that leaves us clueless.

When I have ACE On I notice that sometimes there nothing highlighted for team focus on defense during timeout and on the fly.

and i hardly ever see ACE getting change for your team focus that are highlighted already during timeouts and on the fly when you have ACE on.

Also in gameplan I see nothing change in there during the game when ACE is on

To me ACE is kind of pointless right now if the cpu doesnt let you know what adjustments have been made. Its kind of like running plays with no art or recognition of what play is called.

I think theyre moving in the right direction with ACE. Maybe next year each team gets a defensive profile that lets youbknow their defensive scheme. For example, the Bucks like to switch all on ball screens. If you pull up the bucks defensive profile then you will see this and among other schemes. Once ACE kicks in for the adjustment, a light or indicator lets you know that a new adjustment has be made and this will be indicated during a timeout or deadball situation.

I can't unsee it, and it pisses me off. I have to switch to that man and running him off picks manually.

Can you combine shrink the floor with boxes/elbow on a selected player or does one cancel the other out ?

                        Or is this a mystery.....

My dude, right now it's the Absent Coaching Engine. Those devs who created it made a new complex system with no blog or tutorial and on top of that it's not working right because none of the commands are highlighted or sticking. In other words we don't what cancels out what, and Visual Concepts are not saying ish.

After reading a dozen pages of this thread I am now sure that playing a basketball game has become a grind.
Are there any settings that I can just use and have fun with the game? Settings I can use and win or lose games more like teams in real life do?
I mean, what the hell does 2k think I wanna do with my spare time: enjoy a ball game or spend many many days trying to figure out how to fairly defend other teams? What a joke.
It is time for 2k to step up their game and make this *hit more enjoyable.

To each his own, but I WANT to have to grind for wins. I don't want to just hop into a game and win running up and down the floor shooting threes. In the real NBA, there are si many adjustments made in game by coaches that we don't even have the ability to pull off in 2K. In the NBA, everything has a give/take element. I can call no hedge/over on all balls screens to limit interior shots and 3pt shots, but I will get rained on in the midrange. Its a battle of adjustments just as much as skill, and I love it personally.

If you want, you can leave ACE on auto and all defensive settings on Auto and just play as you would like, and your coach should choose the best defensive settings for you based on the personnel on the floor currently.

Don't get me wrong, but: You use a slider set that is based on All Star difficulty and you set the sliders in your favor (most of them) and still you have to grind for wins? I think that shows how difficult the game is for the avarage player that just wants to play a basketball video game.
