Re: NBA 2K18 Teach Me How To Thread : Tips,Plays,Defense

Anyone got any tips to stop 5-out offense? In the prelude when i ran 5 out, the CPU would sag off of the Center(or worst 3pt shooter) and just stand in the paint to protect the rim.

Any ideas how i can replicate that manually? If i can get my Center to sag off his guy at the 3pt line and just roam the paint, then that will provide the help needed if i get beat. Meanwhile, everyone else stays on their guy.
    Lineup:
    PG) Gary Payton
    SG) '95-'96 Michael Jordan
    SF) Sapphire Scottie Pippen
    PF) '95-'96 Dennis Rodman
    C) Hakeem Olajuwon

How do you make a quick move when receiving a pass? A lot of times when I drive to the hoop, help comes over and takes away my driving lane, so I pass to the open man. So with the Sixers, the player receiving the ball in this scenario is usually Embiid or Saric. When I go to make a move, it just feels so slow, the defender is almost always back in position before I've taken a step, anyway to speed this up?

I just hold the right stick towards the rim when I see one of my guys in position to do one.

Lightly feather the L stick and use the R stick to control dribbles.

I'm looking for a few basic defensive tips. It's definitely more difficult this year, but I'm totally OK with that. I just need to figure out how to be the best on ball defender I can. In order of importance to me...

-Is using the right stick the only way to get a proper shot contest?
-Has anyone figured out how to keep your defender from leaving guys open for corner 3s?
-How often are you guys combining R2 with L2 to stay in front of the ball handler this year?
-What are the most effective times and ways to go for a steal?

                            1. LT, although Mike said it's not as effective. Hitting Y/Triangle gets a nice contest animation aswell.
                            2. Try going into defensive settings and making sure screen help settings and the other one (I forget what it's called) are set so your defenders stay at home.
                            3. I hot steal when they are about to shoot or pass.

Thanks for the feedback. So triangle will give me a contest rather than a jump, or are you saying it's a jump that gives a good contest? I'm looking to get the best contest without leaving my feet, if possible.

It would be great if they could implement shot feedback for CPU shots as well. Not the release part, but the contest. I'd love to know how good my contest is in various situations.

Ah, I understand. Hitting triangle will make you leave your feet but it does trigger a shot contest animation, rather than a block animation. I hit the R stick if I don't want to leave my feet.
