How do I get Lob City Finisher as a SF in MyCareer? Everytime my teammates throw a lob, I catch it and bring it back down, but I never dunk it. Same thing happens on self oops too. Also what’s the best way to level up Glue Hands as a SF?

I apologize if this has been asked and answered, but I've gone through a lot of posts and haven't found it.
What are the best settings on defense? And is on ball defense, off ball defense or a combination of the two best this year?
In regard to the first question I believe Sam Pham recommends something along the lines of --
ACE turned off
Defense On Ball: Moderate (with changes depending on each player on the other team)
Defense Off Ball: Moderate (with changes depending on each player on the other team)
Post Defense: 3/4 Top
Soft or Catch Hedge: All
Hedge Center: Hard Hedge
Off Ball Screen: Go Under
On Ball Screen: Go Over
Force Direction: Baseline (funny -- in high school, coach taught us to deny baseline and force the action to help in the middle)
Pre Rotate: No
Switch: All
Help and No Rotation on both options
Extend Pressure -- No
If I'm incorrect about Sam's recommendations, I apologize but they appear to have changed/evolved over time and maybe I missed one of his videos.Comment

Re: NBA 2K18 Teach Me How To Thread : Tips,Plays,Defense
Thank you for the reply.
Also, does anyone have any tips for getting more fast break points?
After I get a rebound, I most often pass it to my pg who is usually in a standing animation near the rebounder waiting for the pass while the sg and sf are running up the court filling the outside lanes. Often there is another teammate ahead of the sg and sf.
Is it just a matter of rebounder passing to pg who then passes to either the sg or sf on the wing and they drive along the outside lane and go baseline to the hoop or pass to the teammate ahead of them if he's open? (I'm using the 2K camera -- am I the only one who finds it hard to judge how much room the player has between the defender and the baseline when he's driving baseline to the hoop on the break?)
I wish there was a way to get the pg to start running up court after the rebound like in real life. Thanks.Comment

Re: NBA 2K18 Teach Me How To Thread : Tips,Plays,Defense
I'm playing MyLeague as my Celtics. I want to run the offense through Horford and get him lots of assists. The Celtics freelance has a lot of high post action with cuts which is great, but the offense itself takes forever to trigger and there aren't that many branches.
Are there any good freelance sets where I can dump the ball to Al and have lots of off ball movement off him?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!Comment

2) Get the "Relentless Finisher" and "One Man Fastbreak" badges. These will help tremendously for you to complete your own fastbreaks.
3) Lastly, try to play like how the real NBA team plays. If you're using a team that tends to run and gun in real life, play that way in 2K. You'll see more fastbreaks guaranteed.

Re: NBA 2K18 Teach Me How To Thread : Tips,Plays,Defense
I'm loving flow tech this year. My playbook is mostly off-ball screen plays and it is truly game changing to have your ai teammates be able to make the reads that they can in this game. My question for you all is how do you keep up with these reads?
When your guy is getting ready to run off of the screen are you reading his defender and possible hedges? Or are you watching the shooter to see whether he runs straight off, curls, flares etc. The problem I'm having is I can't stay in rhythm with the shooter. I like to be able to hit them as they are coming off of the screen which usually means hitting them before the arrow appears, but a lot of the time I get caught passing to them as they are about to flip and flare the screen or if they stop their run early and flare I'll miss that window completely.

I think I have figured it out. I played the game on Superstar and I was getting blown out. So I switched to All-Star figured out some things and now I'm back on Superstar and having a lot more success. Truth be told you really have to slow down on the sticks and the game seems like it unlocks for you. That's another conversation that I can share with anyone who wants to know. Just reply to this post and I will gladly share.
To answer your question. There's no guaranteed setting for the entire game. Especially on All-Star and up. I don't like HOF because it cheats way too much. Superstar is the most realistic setting.
Without getting to long winded I will try to explain this.
- When you go to Defensive Settings change your coaches overall settings for everyone. Example, On-Ball, Off-Ball, Screens, and Post. Just like in real life, players will get hot and cold. At this point you need to make the necessary adjustments. But you can't play any one team the same the entire because the CPU with make adjustments and let the cooking begin.
- Take any decent spot up shooter and you play him tight on and off-ball, or even deny off-ball. He may at some try to drive on you or you may create an open lane for someone to drive. If this starts working you may need to make an adjust to stop. The shooter may be cold for a while due to fact they haven’t been getting their shot off. This doesn’t mean they will miss all game but you have to pick you poison for that particular point in the game.
- Also, with regards to help defensive and screen help. You can switch this to no-help or help and no-rotation for players that have trouble finishing. (Inside game C and below).
- Now this is sort of a Jewel that I’m about to drop. Some ppl may have figure it out some may not.
- When player like Lebron for example gets the ball in the post. Immediate switch you quick defensive setting like to Shrink the Floor.
- If you are getting beat with off-ball screens change it to Switch Everything. It depends on the possession. You don’t have to do it every possession but on certain ones. If this gets you 3 or 4 stops in the game then you could possibly turn this into easy points on the other end of the floor.
- Just remember you may have to change it on the next possession because the CPU could start to light you up from 3 and you sitting there wondering why and it’s because you forgot to switch it back to Neutral or No Threes.
- If you play a team with good Bigs like the Pelicans or Sixers and they are trying to get it into the post you can quickly switch to a 2-3 to added help D. You just have to memorize the button patterns so you get to them quickly. Practice the patterns in Scrimmage mode.
- I play a combination of off-ball and on-ball defense. Especially with when guarding certain Superstar Players and Three pt. shooters. Sometimes they will run off-ball screens to get open. The CPU picks and chooses when to hustle, so if you this switch and guard him yourself. Use the sprint button to chase them around or under the screens of switch to someone closer and close out on the shot. It won't always work, which it shouldn't, but you can get several stops during a game like this which can make a big difference. Play a combination of off and on-ball D. Don't buy into what ppl say about playing on ball 24/7. Especially, when you are playing the CPU.
- Last tip, if you play off-ball Moderate the CPU will start to hit you with a lot of off-ball screens. You players will get caught on those screens if you have you settings on Go-Over. Until you switch it to Tight or Deny. If you want to go Under then you can play Moderate or Gap.
- The key to remember is you have to wait for the CPU to start running those type of plays on you in the game.
There’s so much more info, but these or the things that got me going in the right direction. Just remember to Slow Down on the sticks. Watch what’s going then make adjustments AS NEEDED. Make your adjustments at TO’s, at the end of quarters, when a certain player is killing you, or when the other team gets up 10 or 12 pts.
There’s no way to completely shut down any NBA team. Just know what you can live with. I hope this helps.Last edited by BigL32; 12-21-2017, 06:17 AM.Comment
