If anything needs to be nerfed it’s the animation that causes slower players to stay with way faster ones by just riding their hip it’s super annoying at the center position bailing out theses slow 7’3 centers

Standing dunks under the rim may need to see some type of nerf. I’m seeing countless centers sit under the rim and dunking over great D.
I'll add two more items to the list of paint problems in Pro Am:
1) Three-second violations aren't called accurately. The game gives people closer to 6 or 7 seconds in the paint before a whistle finally blows.
2) Big men can hold down the "set screen" button in the paint to become invulnerable; you can't touch them or box them out without bouncing off them like a pinball whenever they are holding "set screen."Last edited by jyoung; 10-21-2017, 10:15 PM.Comment

Honestly I think the more they tinker with this and that the more something else gets messed up 2k should just leave the game aloneJesus Is LordComment

I agree, but we are in the minority, unfortunately.
The majority of this game's community wants to "green" every open three they take just because they "know their release."
I'd much prefer to play a game where 50% three-point shooting is the ceiling for the best pure sharpshooters. But in 2K18, you're a mediocre player if 50% is your shooting percentage. The best sharpshooters are hitting 70% of their threes right now.
Even my shot creator with with his 74 open three rating and no shooting badges but bronze corner specialist is hitting 60% from three so far this year. If you just go by my character's ratings and badges, I should probably be making more like 35% of my threes.Last edited by jyoung; 10-22-2017, 07:21 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2k18 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
Its sad that I'll have 3pt shooting games where I shoot 40% and in my teammates eyes I had an off game. 40% 3pt shooting is a bad game, like come on. The meta of Pro-Am is so messed up, I really hope they turn it around and make this more sim and let the park players have their 60% shooting and stuff.Comment

The shooting percentages are a weird balance of making the game realistic, encouraging good basketball and making customers happy.
Encouraging good basketball means wide open shots are rewarded with makes, but it's not necessarily realistic. However, in the NBA, players who shoot a high volume of wide open 3s tend to only make a percentage of high-30s and 40s (source: NBA Stats). Players rarely take rarely take truly contested shots, especially with a defender within 2 feet. The ones who do and are good at it, still make 30%+, which is a pretty big drop off, but perhaps not a big enough one to be perceptible within single games. Obviously, it would be perceptible in a game if the entire team took terrible shots -or- if one person took truly terrible shots like a person without a gold/hof deadeye taking numerous shots with a defender within 2 feet.
In any case, if you were to follow real life shooting percentages, I think players would be upset that bad shots weren't punished properly and I know players would be upset they're not making enough shots when they know their release. In addition, if it was truly sim, I think close shots and mid-range shots would need to be tuned. If you assume that overall 3pt shooting lands around 36%, then mid-range shots would need to be around 40% and around the rim would need to be about 63% to mimic the NBA and allow players to adjust to a more proper distribution of shots (source: BB-ref).
If the pursuit is a perfect sim, then green lights are a problem. Without green lights, it's relatively easy to tune, with green lights you have to make a conscious decision of what the average percentage of green lights is every rating in every shooting zone knowing people will get better and mess up the balance of the game as the year goes on. Given the aforementioned competing desires for gameplay, balancing for green lights has to be an absolute nightmare.
I think that's kind of where we're at, the competing desires and balancing of green lights have just left us with this kerfuffle for shooting.
Even if 2K went for truly sim at this point, with or without green lights, it'd be unpalatable even for many players who claim they're sim players or reasonable players. I've heard sim guys say, "If it's an open shot with a good release it should go in." I think those players want to see good basketball moreso than realism.

Re: NBA 2k18 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
I do think we're at a point where true sim would kill off most of the player base but even dropping the shooting percentage by like 5% would come a long way. I think if slowly but sure they dropped it 2-3% at a time we could find a happy medium.Comment
