I started a Nuggets Dynasty in MyLeague, and I made 2 trades that drastically alters my chances to win now, while still maintaining a bright future. My objectives were to keep my core three ultra-talented young players (Jokic, Murray, Porter Jr.) and fill in the rest of my roster with proven, talented veterans. Here is my new roster, with the two trades listed below:
Starting Lineup
PG - Mike Conley (83)
SG - Jamal Murray (83)
SF - Khris Middleton (86)
PF - Nikola Jokic (90)
C - Marc Gasol (85)
Bench
PG - Isaiah Thomas (80)
SG - Malcolm Brogdon (81)
SF - Michael Porter Jr. (76)
PF - Trey Lyles (76)
C - Brook Lopez (79)
The arrival of Marc Gasol and Mike Conley significantly bolsters both my offense and defense. Conley serves as a floor general at the point guard position, which is a luxury that Denver has been sorely lacking. Gasol allows Nikola Jokic to move over to power forward, effectively giving the starting unit the two most talented, stretch, brick wall, big men passers in the NBA... backdoor cuts for days!
Jamal Murray is in position to light up the league in year three, as he now has Conley to run the point and set him up, along with two excellent passers and massive screen setters (Gasol and Jokic) to give him all the room and looks he needs to scorch the net. Khris Middleton stretches the floor as a filthy 5th option who is absolutely murderous from mid-range. He teams up extremely well with Gasol and Jokic, as all three players boast mid-range shooting attributes of 90+.
The bench is so strong that I am able to sub the entire unit in together and not miss a beat against opponents. Depth is such that I can keep my starters well rested and not wear them out in the regular season. The backcourt duo of Isaiah Thomas and Malcolm Brogdon provide a nice mix of both scoring punch and stability. Brook Lopez offers a similar skillset to Gasol and Jokic, effectively giving me three stretch bigs who are also capable of scoring in the post. Trey Lyles and Michael Porter Jr. offer explosiveness and floor-stretching to round out the rotation.
Trade 1
Out
Gary Harris
Paul Milsap
Mason Plumlee
In
Marc Gasol
Mike Conley
Garrett Temple
Analysis - I offered Harris and Milsap for Gasol and Conley, but they countered with Plumlee and Temple included in the deal. I didn't want to lose a quality backup center in Plumlee, but being able to add two proven winners who offer defense and stability in areas of need was too good to pass up.
Trade 2
Out
Will Barton
Juan Hernangomez
Malik Beasley
2022 1st round
2023 1st round
In
Khris Middleton
Malcolm Brogdon
Brook Lopez
Analysis - It was essential that I keep my core young studs (Jokic, Murray, Porter Jr.) because this trade depletes future assets. Middleton rounds out the starting five and I get two perfect bench players in Brogdon and Lopez (who replaces the departed Plumlee from the first trade).
