Something which doesn't seem to have been brought up is Ante Up, surely that qualifies as gambling when your putting virtual currency that you can earn/buy with money on the line? Granted its only up to about 5 dollars of real money in 1 game but it's still gambling IMO.

Gambling is a game of chance. Ante up is a game of skill. You’re playing a normal game of basketball, just with VC on the line.

The computer decides whether the ball goes in when you shoot.

Right. The player on the sticks has absolutely nothing at all to do with it. No skill involved at all. Totally random.

You...haven’t actually played 2K before, have you?

Every game since 2K11. Some physical, some digital. Want a photo?

The difference now? There are different settings for online than off. They told us this.

Guy's not spending money? Let's just mess with the sliders server-side. No one will ever know.

            Turn players into payers.

They could fix this in one move. Make VC impossible to buy with real money.

            Watch how things change.

By the way, you first responded to me an hour ago. The video is 25 minutes long.

You've spent more time talking to me than you would have watching the video.

            Watch the video.

So an NBA player betting money on a game he is playing in isn't gambling?

Or did you forget the dislike bars on the US and UK uploads?

By the way, if you'd watched the YongYea video, you would've heard the speaker say something interesting at 20:49.

No, because it’s fraud. Betting on nba games is perfectly legal, and also considered chance. Ante up is a skill based competition the laws are crystal clear on games of chance vs skill.

Hate to break this to you buddy, but while loot crates may soon be regulated (not even close to illegal, but regulated), there is zilch wrong with micro transactions for in-game products. If you don’t like them, don’t buy the game. That’s a free choice thing. Aside from that, no one cares.

                        Fake outrage has its limits.

A few of the guys in here are beginning to sound like some overzealous ideology types who think everyone else needs to contort to their particular worldview. It's getting a bit silly.

You really make me dread the future of this hobby.

Remember when you bought a game and got EVERYTHING IN THE GAME? No extra paywalls. No tweaking the odds server-side. You want this rare item, you EARN this rare item.

You really haven't noticed that almost every addition to the annual game goes into monetizable modes? Gee, why do you think that is?

There's no money in franchise mode. Plenty in intangible JPEGs that will disappear in two years.

But what do I know? I'm not the one defending getting fleeced and blaming the victim for getting scammed.

At what point does a game of skill become a game of chance? Because a Ante Up game could have any of the following during the game
                              Teammate/Opponent lags out
                              Full Court heave go's in
Ball gets blocked and deflects off 2 people out of bounds
Ball gets stuck on the rim for 10-15 seconds before dropping
                              Etc

I'm trying to understand how betting on a NBA game is gambling but betting in a game based on the NBA isn't.

By that logic everything in life is a game of chance. Playing an actual nba game itself would be luck-based. You’ve stretched it to the point of absurdity.
