Re: NBA 2K20 Available Now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Post Impressions Here
2K changed some thing's that we've been doing certain ways for year's with this installment, lol
I miss the day's Mike used to come in here and chop it up with us about control changes...but I know he has a ton going on.
At the very least, they would really ease learning curves putting this stuff out there..Comment

Re: NBA 2K20 Available Now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Post Impressions Here
I haven't seen this mentioned at all, but is anyone else a little worried about the fact that they removed Contested and Moving ratings for shot locations? How does the engine differentiate between someone who's strictly a spot-up shooter and someone who can make shots from any angle off the dribble? Are badges that powerful (to the point that not having, say, Difficult Shots or Steady Shooter severely hinders your ability to make anything but open spot-ups)?Last edited by RyanFitzmagic; 09-10-2019, 03:14 PM.Comment

Any one feel like ball tangibility was nerfed? Had 0 turnovers at the half (12min quarters). I've had double digits turnovers every game before today and rightfully so the way I drive to the hoop recklessly sometimesComment

A player shooting a wide open shot from a specific spot has a base chance of a make, determined by shot rating+release.A defender contesting that shot would lower the chance of make by a certain amount determined by his defense rating + badges+angle of contest. The Steady Shooter badge would decrease the amount the defender's contest lowers the make chance. This is assuming the defender is not playing incredibly good defense and no green release.A moving shot would work similarly.A penalty to the make chance for shooting on the move, Difficult Shots would reduce the penalty.
You can still make those shots here and there without the badges, just not with anywhere near the consistency you would have with the badges.Comment

So the game is able to differentiate between players that can only shoot wide open looks vs true catch and shoot guys?Comment

I went back to All Star 100 offensive sliders, 0 defensive sliders. AI seem more difficulty and more aggressive on All Star. HOF and superstar seem easier then All Star.Comment

Yes. I think this is whats contributing to the game feeling easier. The CPU really is more human like and it's great. Most years I get killed on default allstar; this year I'm over 50%. I may end up on superstar this year which is crazy for me. I'm one of those "the game is cheating!" folks, especially when the CPU makes a late comeback. It's actually kind of nice to see the CPU not greening shots late. It gives the game a more organic feel. I'd still like the option to disable it all together. But honestly, I kind of like it now. 2K20 is easily the best playing 2K this gen for me.Last edited by ricardo.13; 09-11-2019, 08:02 AM.Comment

For example, mccollum shot 40% on open threes last year and only 27% on contested threes, however he shot 51% on open mid-range shots and an elite 48% on contested mid-range shots.
Now I can't replicate his skillset. If i give him a gold deadeye badge because he's elite from mid while covered he's also now going to be elite from 3 while covered etc.
Can provide a ton more examples of course since every player is unique.
Probably an unpopular care, but as someone who is obsessed with accurate ratings, the removal of the contested and moving ratings has been a major buzzkill to me. Not acceptable for what's supposed to be an NBA simulation. You simply can not accurately represent each players' unique shooting skillsets with the current system.
But as it stands, yes, they knock down the base % if you're taking a contested or pull-up shot, then the badges bring it up a certain amount (which we don't know exactly how much), though from some light testing in shoot around it seems a Gold badge will bring the pull-up shooting % to whatever their base rating is.
But again, very flawed system thats unable to capture all the unique differences, example I gave with mccollum is one, another is let's say Marc Gasol who literally made ZERO contested or pull-up three point shots last year, but now his base contested and pull up shooting will be the same as every other ~37% three point shooter.
I sent in feedback/suggestions here to get them to bring it back, if you care about it can also post, if they see people actually care about it I'm sure they can/may easily bring it back.

Nah this is a huge problem to me. It's impossible to replicate the massive variance in players' shooting abilities with just 4 badges(plus we don't even know exactly how they affect %'s), and I always meticulously do ratings ever year. To make matters worse, they combined the deadeyes into one badge, so can't even use the two separate badges to try to differentiate between shooters that are elite on contested shots from one range but not the other.

That's totally unacceptable for a basketball simulation. I can't believe people love to sing nba 2k's praises each season, finding small reasons to love the game yet avoid seeing these small but important mistakes. Be honest people
This thread is for impressions from people who have the game. You've clearly stated you don't. The irony is your're in here hunting for posts looking for reasons to type up your personal feelings about 2K, and commenting on other posters experience. This isn't the thread for it, and you've been warned about this before. Let's get back to impressions, please.Last edited by The 24th Letter; 09-11-2019, 04:29 AM.Comment
