    i've never played 5v5.

only 3v3 in the matchmaking gym or open park.

shuts off my xsx. every. single. time.

again, i've never played 5v5 except solo, not online, versus the cpu or a local friend in the room with me.

It's a 2k and Microsoft problem. There's no way this hasn't happened during multiple test runs before the game is released. As I stated earlier in the thread, I wasted 480 bucks on xbox one x for NBA 2k20 cause that's the only game I play. It shut off alot within the first month I thought I wasted my money. Then from that point on I went back and used the og xbox one and in some time in Feb/March it was shutting that one down too just as much. I'd rotate between both xboxs just to play the game and it became unplayable. Both companies are to blame equally. It's no excuse.

I say that because I've played about 25 3v3 pro am game since Friday and have not had a single shutdown occur in that mode since then.

I've also played about 50 3v3 myteam triple threat games (offline & online) since Thursday and have not gotten one shutdown to happen there.

But every 5v5 mode I've played (rec center, team pro am, 2KU scrimmage, myteam limited, myteam unlimited) has had around a 95% failure rate and ultimately ends up shutting down my Xbox at some point before the end of the game. Only 1 of those 5v5 games in roughly 15 attempts has ever finished without a console shutdown.

The Chris Brickley drill is the only 3v3 mode that I can't get to run consistently, but its failure rate is a bit less, shutting my system down around 33% of the time.

I've never had any other Xbox game do this, so I find it hard to believe that my system is at fault, and not 2K22.
I can play 5v5 NBA and WNBA 12/10 minn qtr regs against the CPU and it won't crash but 15 minns of practicing plays and I get the crash 100% of the time.

That does not seem like a hardware issue. If it was a hardware issue the games with the most graphics would cause the overheating. The practice mode has an empty arena with 100 percent of the crashes.

I changed my television display on my xbox series x console from 120hz back to 60hz. This has fixed it for both next gen 2k games for me. If any of you out there have a 120hz capable tv/display and this is happening to you I recommend you check your settings in the xbox settings menu. If you don't have have a capable display and or your xbox is not set to 120hz then I do not have an answer for you, sorry. But to those of you who do, check it, it worked for me.

OP should edit the initial post with this possible fix in case others click on here looking for help.

so far, this let me get thru 2 consecutive online 3v3 games.

small sample, but i wasnt ever getting thru even 1 before.

i'll report back as i go.

Definitely yes. Would I recommend getting a replacement and waiting forever? Definitely no. It's not like the RROD where you had to weird things to "fix" it. Whatever the problem is, it's something that can be handled via a patch and/or firmware update.

I'm adding firmware update, because I don't remember if one was done. However, I do remember 2K announcing the patch to fix it, and it was fixed.
I'm sorry but it was never patched last year, was happening to me (and at least 1more person from my group) until very last day of 2k21. Happened couple of times to my kid on Fifa21 as well

I delayed sending my X back to Microsoft (they say 10-21 days return) until now, bit seems like time

There is a new update but this doesn't solve the problem.
I just had another shut down in play now online.

My TV does not support 120Hz, so it's at 50hz and the HDR is deactivated, since the the TV does not support it either.

                F*** this s****!

I have tried everything and still got the occasional and abrupt switch off... Really depressing and infuriating... The funny thing is that, even though it is more common playing online, it already happened to me twice playing also offline (MyCareer and MyNBA)...

I hope Microsoft and/or VC are already aware of this issue and working on a solution because this is totally unacceptable.

Its not just an xbox issue. Seen two reddit post with it happening to ps5 users.

This is great news for Series X users. Now they will have to take this very serious and do something about it.

Well...something was fixed last year. I didn't do anything to fix the problem nor did I send in my XBSX to be replaced. My console was doing absolutely fine until NBA 2K22.

Looks like Xbox is aware of the problem, they just sent a tweet about it. But who knows how long it will take to fix.

I just tried the 3v3 no squads matchmaking gym for the first time and it triggers console shutdowns for me just like the indoor 3v3 Brickley drill does.

I wonder if that's because those two venues have fancier lighting and more detailed/higher res background objects compared to the regular park and the 3v3 pro am gym, which have remained the only two online safe havens for me at the moment. Every other online mode (especially the 5v5 ones) has either been an instant shutdown or an eventual shutdown that's inevitably going to happen sometime before the game can finish.
