I finally heard back from 2K Support about this issue and they basically just shrugged their shoulders in my general direction and told me to go bother Microsoft about it:

We appreciate the information about which game modes work and don't work and are sorry to hear that our troubleshooting steps weren't successful. We currently have reached the extent of our troubleshooting capabilities.

Shutting down suggests that there might be an issue with your console, therefore, it is our recommendation to reach out to Xbox Support for further assistance with Series X shutdown issues.

I think this is probably going to end with me sending my Xbox into Microsoft for a new one and hoping that it doesn't have the same problem.

But I'll see what MS support has to say, first.

This is the only game that shuts down my console. Same thing happened with NBA 2K21 last year for me. I'm basically stuck with playing the "offline" modes.

EDIT: I'm having fun still, but I'm tired of giving my opponents free wins in PNO and MyTeam Unlimited...it especially stings when I was up in that game.

Guys i dont know what to do

I had same issue with my Series X, console was shutting down if i went to Rec, or any other online activity.

I went to store they gave my money back

i don`t know what to do please any advice

Wait till they resolve this issue and buy another brand new Series X ?

Buy PS5 as you guys said there is no issues there with 2k22, and i only play this game, no shutting down etc

Had no single problem with 360 & One

It happens me for when I play offline. But it's never when Im in the menus, only when Im playing.

Im 99% sure this is a game, not a console, problem.

It's been 11 days since the game is released and a week since Xbox Support acknowledged the issue. Seems like no one cares to fix this so it would be a sensible decision to ask for a refund.

i bit the bullet and returned my console.. it's happened to me (since launch) in many games:

madden21
madden22
nba2k21
nba2k22
borderlands3
COD


my son lives in the same house. same xbox version (xsx). same games. but he's had zero shut-offs, ever.

most of the games that were doing it eventually stopped.. only madden22 and nba2k22 remained. but i believe it's a combo of software and hardware -- like maybe certain xsx|s have less or dried/cracked thermal paste between the cpu/gpu and the heatsink. i dont know.

but once i learned of people's experience of returning their xsx for repair, and the issue resolved after they received a replacement, i bit the bullet and sent mine.

i'd rather correct it now than halo release or bf2042. nba2k22 is bad enough i cant play online modes.

I have an X and S.

The shutting off was horrible on my X with multiple games...hasn't happened since I got my new one back from MS..

It seems PS5 is far better machinery then Series X, so many Xboxes with shutting down issues

I returned my series X to store, i am affraid of gettin new one, so it also shuts down on Rec center

I'm not ready to bite the bullet, because I have a product replacement plan through Best Buy. I'm not going to waste it on one game not working when the problem was resolved last year somehow, someway. Admittedly, my patience is growing thin. I bought a fan, and it still powered off while playing NBA 2K22 online. I'll give it until the end of the week, or I will be calling MS for a refund. My VC and MyTeam stuff carries over to current gen, so I'll be alright.

EDIT: Went ahead and bought the cross-gen version, because MS agreed to the refund. I'm going to be heated if a patch drops tomorrow to resolve the issue. I'm just ready to jump into the online part 100%. I hate playing against the AI.

MS owes you are replace/repair outside of best buy's warranty in the first year. i'd get that before i used my extended warranty thru any merchant.
