We all know how social media is. If this becomes a recurring thing for future next-gen games, then XBSX becomes the console "With next-gen specs, but can't handle next-gen games". As others have stated, it's definitely a software/hardware problem.
i play in a league with 30 friends on myNba league online, and 15 person have xbox S with no problem, other 15 have xbox x and 60% of this have shut down issue, other no; so if we are some console with no shut down issue and other have, it's very difficult that was only a software problem, but maybe a hardware with issue or working different.

I only notice that if i use the console for other gameplay or download and going to play 2k22, the issue will happen in the first 1-2 minut of gaming, otherwise if i start player after shut up complete from the menu of tools->energy saving , the shut down happen after 15/20 min of gaming, so maybe a ram problem

I'm also confused when the update was pushed. When i got on 30 minutes after the xbox support tweet, I never had a game or console update

I'm curious to how the console "works harder" when the user is playing an online match/game. In my eyes, every online multiplayer game has the potential to cause this problem. Maybe they need to increase the default temperature of the console before shutting off (I'm spitballing, because I'm not a technical person). When my mine console shuts off, it never feels like it's superhot or gives me concern of overheating. The heat coming out the top feels "normal" to me.

the console is hot (external) at the same time when play in other game and maybe game for example gears or shoting first person are more expansive for the heat of cpu or graphics card; So i don't think is a overheating problem; for example i play 3 game on row and first 2 game falling after 2 min of online game and the third (that i supposed shuld be the hotting game) crash after 20 min

Funny thing was, I started my system up, did exactly what you said to do, went and tried the Chris Brickley Gym to just try and finish the first game, and my console shut off in like 2 minutes. The game score was 2-0 lol. My console has never shut off quicker than it did when I tried this.

Microsoft or 2k, Fix this. It has gone on long enough!
i only play mytem and play now online, i dont know if it works myplayer

My series X has never became even remotely hot. In fact, almost every time I have checked, it hasnt even became an warmer than it was prior to playing.

That tweet is BS, just had my xbox shutoff right now, and it happened last night which ended my want to play. I didn't think I was effected too much at the beginning because I just played my career and grinded all my badges but since starting to play online I consistently get booted or hard shut offs. And the worst part is that many of these games actually tank my winning percentage and stats. It's completely stupid. Every year 2k has these crazy issues even though they seemingly roll around in money. They finally put out a game I enjoy playing but I can't even play it. When will I learn my lesson?

I feel you. The one year in a loooong time that I feel like I can go ham in play now online, and my game keeps dropping. If my games haven't dropped, I would be sitting on a dominating winning percentage, presuming that my opponents couldn't make a comeback. Majority of the games, I was up double digits, and there was only a handful of games where the score was within five points.

If I wasn't so worried about digging myself out of a losing record, I would play five games in row to time how long it take before my console crashed. Call me crazy, but it seems like it's pretty consistent about how long it takes before it crashes.

Yeah I've tried two methods to reset things after DMing Xbox Support on twitter and neither work either. If their position continues to be "we fixed it" despite literally nobody experiencing a change in crashes, I feel like RMA is gonna be the only option.

this is where i'm at too. i think they would genuinely rather spend the money sending us new consoles than take the dev time to fix the issue

I've seen people continue to have this issue even after doing a return but it's the only real option for me if Xbox's new stance is going to be that they fixed it out of thin air without any actual patches or updates addressing it from them or 2K. I'll give it the weekend to see if there was some miscommunication and it's still coming or something, but it seems pretty clear they're washing their hands of this and just pretending it's not happening anymore

Nothing is fixed. That Xbox Support Tweet today saying it should be fixed is totally false. Just look at all the replies to that tweet. This is so frustrating. Microsoft and 2k need to step up. 2k has done nothing, they have never addressed this.

Here is how stupid this whole situation is.

                            1. 2k Support, after making me reset my console multiple times, reconnect to the Internet, delete and reinstall the game multiple times, tells me this is a Microsoft issue.

                            2. Microsoft Xbox Support tweets today the issue should be fixed, but there is no Xbox Update or anything on Microsoft's end. Only an NBA2k22 patch. Which tells me it is obviously a problem with the game if Microsoft thinks its fixed after a patch to the game.

                            3. 2k Support is still telling people to fill out support tickets, to this day, for this issue, then they respond telling them it is beyond their support and to contact Microsoft.

                            4. Why is Microsoft the one tweeting that this should be fixed, and not 2k, while 2k has never even addressed or mentioned this even being a problem? 2k is totally avoiding all of this!

Finally, the weirdest thing is my Xbox Series X shut down completely after this latest update while just running around the neighborhood. One time, it was right after a career game, it takes you to your apartment. I left my apartment and took 10 steps and the Xbox Series X shut off.

The second time, I was trying to do a Quest for The Game, he makes you travel all over the city. I was trying to travel across the Neighborhood to meet him and my Xbox Series X shut off completely again.

So my first two shut downs since this "fix" were just me running around the neighborhood.

Is seems Microsoft Support deleted the tweet stating it was fixed

However the game is not back on the Xbox Status page of their site

                              Never ending cycle of misery

I ended up deciding that it'd probably be best to just go ahead and send my console in for repair or return while it's still under warranty, so hopefully, by the time it comes back from MS, this issue will be resolved one way or another.

It figures that the best year gameplay wise from 2K in a good while also ends up being the year that I'm technically incapable of playing their game.

Current gen 2K22 isn't bad, by any means, it's just a bit too samey feeling compared to that brand new next gen feel.
