Re: Is it me or did the CPU get WAY better

Just played my first couple of games since the patch and it feels very... messy? Everyone feels a little less in control and quite jerky.

Feels like we've gone back to all the cheesy greatest hits - getting sucked into steals, missing gimmies at the rim because there is a defender within a few feet, CPU defenders teleporting around screens and closing out at ridiculous speeds etc. Plus the shooting, especially on the CPU end, is brick city.

This was only summer league though so hoping it'll be a bit cleaner once I'm into the season proper and facing better CPU opponents. Like many others I had my sliders in a really good place pre-patch so it is frustrating as it feels like 2K have just done their usual "increase the difficulty" trick of just ramping up cheese and messing with shooting.

EDIT - also, shotblocking feels extremely OP. Especially help defenders coming out of nowhere and spiking shots into the stands.

Yeah it’s pretty salvageable but it does feel messy. Mark price just went 4/17 from 3 and 8/27 the entire game. Kyrie had the same thing happen last game. Before patch I was getting such realistic numbers from everyone. I’m good with my user shooting but cpu has become more inconsistent. Honestly gameplay feels almost exactly like 2K22 now. Cpu shoots low percentages, star players can go on idiotic 8/27 shooting sprees. My guys are passing to the wrong players in traffic when I’m trying to pass to someone wide open, forcing a cheese cpu lane steal, etc. And I think blocks on the user side do seem a little buffed. But cpu side seems to about the same ahd fine.

Cpu shoots worse but AI forces me to make more turnovers to compensate.

It feels a lot like 2K22 now.

My motivation to play has plummeted since the patch. I’ll get back in there and mess with sliders but “it feels a lot like 2K22” is just about the last thing I want to hear right now.

Here’s another thing. Cpu can’t make free throws anymore. KD went 1-7 from the line. Tatum misses everything, etc.

Playing a game now and cpu is decimating me again. Like how they were immediately after the patch. It’s annoying cause I rose cpu sliders since they were playing so bad but now they’re cooking. It’s just frustrating cause it’s hard to tell where the AI is. Like do I turn sliders back down? Is it a fluke?

I'm handling the computer pretty easily but I'm also in a stretch of playing some bad teams in my schedule. Played 76ers against the Rockets last night and I won 113-96. I shot 50% CUP shot 41%. Seemed reasonable (at least based on the 76ers in the game and not real life). CPU did only shoot 48% from the FT Line and I shot 100%.

Yeah I dunno. I played a game this morning and cpu was playing like the pre patch days. I got cooked. Hoping it’s not a fluke. Had to adjust my sliders back to pre patch levels so we’ll see if it was in fact a fluke or not my next game. But cpu definitely still misses lots of free throws. I hated when they made all free throws too but some balance is nice.

Yep its something I hate about the main menu updates. We don't know what was changed. It could just be a new pink wig, or a minor gameplay tweak. Now I'm going to be paranoid moving forward.

Just had Atlanta smoke me shooting 63% from the field (although they play that annoying 4-out offense with Capela just setting perimeter screens, so a lot of shots were close to the rim). I then put my sliders back to what they were pre-patch and the Warriors have shot 48% against me in the first half. Seems promising!

                      Honeymoon period is over.

The more I play 2k23 the more I want to just go back to 2k20.

Which I did......and then cried a river of tears when I discovered all my roster saves were corrupted.

I THINK the CPU is more or less fixed. Can’t say how the game is holistically compared to pre patch as I need more playing time and have to be sure unbalanced cheese isn’t in play. But it feels tough again.

Wow that’s horrible. Did you delete then re-download the game? I wonder why it would corrupt.

Yep. Like a fool, I'd removed the game. On re-installing, obviously the servers are now no longer running for that game, so with no way to update it to its final current state, all my hard work was corrupted. 3 years worth of full roster/sig/tendency/playbook edits for quite easily one of my favourite 2k games ever, all lost.

2k23 might be retro heaven in terms of teams etc, but as I feared, the gameplay and customization isn't as good for me, personally, as it has been in previous iterations.

I can't face another year of mass editing.

I can’t either. It’s gonna be 2K23 for me. I just hope they don’t screw with gameplay anymore. Now I could swear they made players move slower? Again it’s something I actually wanted from the beginning because I thought ball handlers were too fast but again it’s something I already did via sliders by turning down speed and accel with ball so driving wasn’t so easy with slashers. It’s the constant slider drawing boards that annoy me.

2K23 already gave us pristine Jordan and Bulls era likenesses, which was what got me with this game. I dunno what 2K24 would have to do to get me nor do I think it’s possible, but it would have to be something otherworldly. Just takes too much time to get the game right as a roster editer and then keeping up with each patch becomes its own job.

Really sorry to hear about your corrupted saves Dave. That sucks man.

I feared the same had happened to me. As it turns out my files for 2k20 were also corrupted, during data transfer from PS4 > PS5. I hadn't realized until attempting to log into them some time later. All thanks be to the heavens that those files were still safe and accessible from the PS4.

I bought a second monitor, so I can have both 2K20 and 2K23 open on the two consoles as I transfer stats tendencies sigs etc..

I hope I'm not in actuality wasting a colossal amount of time. My plan is to spend this year editing and enjoy 2k23 next year, however despite the stunning attention to some legends this year there are flaws with gameplay and head scratching bugs within MyNBA.

Now this patch is giving me even more pause. I don't like constantly revising sliders. Shooting/freethrows all over the place, having to always fine tune the stonewalling, and I gotta balance that with the horrendously generous badges.

With my luck, 2k24 will end up being a masterpiece and I will have spent time editing the wrong game

Same, unless it’s something super special I don’t see buying 24. So I hope when 23 is done being worked on it’s left in a good place gameplay wise.
