There's already a built-in tendency in the game for primary ball-handlers to drive to the basket either on their own through dribble penetration or via ball screens/P&R. My scale for Drive tendency for guards is therefore lower than for wings, but you'll see their Attack/Kick tendencies higher so they are more active.

If I can figure out how to stop the AI from defaulting to dribble penetration on every scoring opportunity, then I'll go back to using the drive stats from NBA.com to decide that tendency for all players. There's a lot of issues like this which forced me to change min/max scales by player type (just like the transition pull-up issue).

Is this based off of Simworld, vannwolfhawk, or a hybrid of both?

Thank you for all you do for this community!
Thanks, it means a lot to still be able to add some value around here.

I've always developed my own system, but there has been input over the years that get taken from this whole community. That's why I'm excited to share as the process goes on so we can find new tips to help others out.

The end goal for this project is a data-driven website powered by daily NBA boxscores that outputs a 2K player profile for everyone in the league with attributes, tendencies, hot spots, and badges. I'm hoping it will be ready for 2K20 so thank you to everyone who gives feedback to help get to that end state.

I strongly recommend trying with the sliders to see the change in athleticism and game speed. It's meant to play at near NBA game speed so the reactions are much quicker.

Sounds amazing. Thank you for all of this. I will give your sliders a try.

Could you make a list of everything you plan to edit in this roster? I’m not a roster guru but always enjoy following the process.

        Cheers!

Re: 2K19: Return of The Sim Roster

The v0.1 roster has been updated on 2KShare with the correct version. The one uploaded last night was my offline play test roster, so mostly the same aside from the Bucks who were being edited last night. If you played the Bucks last night, try playing them again as their defensive attributes weren't adjusted yet and they may have been a bit overpowered.

I've also done a minor tweak to the Transition Pull-Up scale on the low end (from 1 to 5 for guards), but will play test with it while I'm only at 4 teams to make sure it's working as it should before pushing it to all teams. Thanks for that suggestion.

Could you make a list of everything you plan to edit in this roster? I’m not a roster guru but always enjoy following the process.
The rosters being uploaded to 2KShare will have Player Build, Attributes, Tendencies, Badges, Play Types, Playbooks, Coach Profiles, Rotations, and a few Signatures updated.

I'll go back and update Signatures, Rotations, Hot Zones, and a few other things once all 30 teams are completed.

Right now I'm pulling data from over 100 data tables so I'm going to hold on documenting anything in the forums until the final database model is finished and it can be published on the web. Sorry if anyone wanted a Google doc or Excel like I've done in the past, but I'm happy to answer questions on how I've come up with any specific attribute or tendency.

There are over 125 editable attributes and tendencies in this year's game and I'm up to 60 of them being data-driven. There are a lot of athletic attributes and dribble/signature tendencies which aren't data driven, but have customized scales where I'm forced to make some judgment calls. Hopefully I can get up to around 80 data-driven attributes/tendencies before the website is published. I'll update the roster with any new data-driven items as the versions are released.

Hey, what is this? You’re the guy that started Sim-World some 6-7 years ago together with Ronyell, aren’t you?

I will try this out for sure!! Hope you’ll add the Jazz soon as that is where my true knowledge lies.

But if we use these for ML will we have to edit a ton of stuff for the draft classes?

Ronyell is the man behind Sim-World, but I worked with him and the team for a couple of years on rosters back in 2K11/12. They held it down and kept grinding when 2K editing became a pain so much respect to the squad.

I remember you from back then so I've got you on the Jazz in the next batch of teams.

You will have to make edits for draft classes, but not many. If it's helpful, I could also create some CAP's buried deep in the roster file with example Attributes/Tendencies for each player Archetype that you could copy into prospects in the draft class using Player DNA.

Yeah, I’ve been playing with the SW roster every year since then, but they’re sitting 2K19 out.

Looking forward to trying your roster, but I’ll wait for the Jazz. I’m not knowledgeable enough to tell if other teams are playing true to life.

About the rookies, just wait until you got everything else done. Guess that will take some time. lol

I used mine which are basically default except for shooting tendencies.

I’m always hesitant to use non default movement tendencies but I’ll give these a try.

Man a roster with archtypes would be absolutely ****ing incredible. I highly anticipate this and hope you find the time to do so.

Even if it was just like "Driving PG" "Defending PG" with tendencies done that would be amazing.

Re: 2K19: Return of The Sim Roster

I'm happy with some changes I've been testing on the scale/range for the Drive Tendency vs Spot/Screen Drive vs Driving Layup/Dunk Tendency. The largest impact is lowering the Driving Layup/Dunk scale for everyone and bringing the floor on those down to 0/1 for players with low Drive tendencies.

I'll roll them out to every team in v0.2 and it should cut down a lot on non-scorers or traditional big men trying to dribble penetrate every time they touch the ball.

There will also be new values for the Contested Mid/3PT Tendency based on real-world data. I'm seeing much better pull-up shot selection after the change, especially for mid-range guys like Middleton/Durant/Klay.

The final change I'm making is for Sliders/Gameplay. I've been going back and forth on this, but I'll finally be turning the ACE system OFF for all games until 2K/VC updates the configuration for the season and stops overriding the playbooks/tendencies.

I was able to get a couple of games in with ACE OFF and it was the first time I've seen the game run through my Playbooks and distribute plays among the players on the floor according to the Touches tendency.

The major loss with ACE off are the End-Game Iso sets that get called, but with the system actually using the Touches tendency I may be able to add back in the Isolation and Guard Post Up play types that were removed from the roster. I'll test it offline first before changing the Play Types in the roster. The User also loses Series execution with Auto play calling, but we can call those manually during any timeout anyways.

Yeah I always play with ACE off. If the user is willing to commit to calling plays then nothing is lost. It is permanently activated for the CPU team we’re playing against.

The Touches tendency has almost no value with ACE turned on. Teams are running the ACE Series offense 30-60% of the game and only running plays for their 1st/2nd options the rest of the game.

The Series are great, but we can add some of those plays to the Playbook and get a wider play distribution with ACE turned off. I'm still checking for other effects of ACE on the defensive end, but so far on offense the play calling has been more configurable and lineup driven with it off.

I'll probably go back to using ACE after Czar pushes updates to it.
