Re: NBA 2K18 "The Eccentric Edition" - Realistic Slider Set

Thanks for all the feedback so far guys! Even negative feedback helps, usually a lot more than positive feedback does!

This last update I focused on fixing a lot of things for the USER, and in general it seems like I succeeded with that. As you know, I couldn't quite get the CPU improvements I was looking for, but I wanted to get an update out there for you guys in the meantime. So unfortunately, as this was a bit of an in-between update, there are issues with the AI.

Seeing as this was an expected outcome, it will be easy to work on. I do a have a saved document of my v2 sliders, which I can post here for reference after work if you'd like! I'll be taking a look back at that tonight to try and "fill the gap" for the AI until my next update.

In the meantime, continue posting any and all feedback! For those who love the update, let me know a few more specifics of what's going well in your gameplay! And for those who liked v2 better, any and all info on what has changed for the worse in your opinion would be greatly appreciated as well!

Re: NBA 2K18 "The Eccentric Edition" - Realistic Slider Set

Tweaks I made to your V3 eccentric (to improve AI difficulty and realism)

All CPU shot success (inside, close, mid-range, 3PT and layup) - 51
User shot success stays at 50
Pass accuracy - 40 for both (AI was botching relatively easy passes at 20, full court heaves will still be a challenge for either AI or user to connect on. Pass smart and you shouldnt have an issue.)

Layup Defense Strength (Takeoff) - 50
Layup Defense Strength (Release) - 50
Jump Shot Defense Strength (Gather) - 55
Jump Shot Defense Strength (Release) - 55

All values for both AI and User.

These values reduced from the 55 (layup) and 60 (jumpshot) you had. It was making shots impossible for the AI to connect on, in my opinion. These tweaks still very much making contested layups HARD to make for both. If you're going to drive to the basket, you better have a clear lane or it's gonna be tough, as it should be. Contested shots were made, contested shots were missed. Open shots were hit, open shots were missed. Such is the way of the NBA.

      Attempt Putbacks - 30

I saw guys in a prime position to get a 2nd chance bucket pass out of the paint with it set to 25.

      Blocking – 50

55 was making it way too easy for me to get blocks. Even opposing 3PT shots were getting blocked far too often. 50 feels right.

      Offensive rebounding - 41

You originally had this set to 55/42. Offensive rebounds have been WAY too easy to grab as the user (and creating inflated rebound numbers and as a result, high field goal attempts). This makes them very hard to come across for both teams but at a respectable number in line with that of the NBA.

      Lateral quickness - 50

60 made it VERY hard for me to get around opposing players even with the very fast Dearron Fox. on the same token, opposing players could hardly ever get around me. 50 feels right. obviously 0 from v1 was too low. I was able to blow by guys if I wanted to and combined with the previous settings of layup contest, I was shooting a bit too high of a percentage with guards in the paint on drives. I never abused it for the sake of realism - now it seems very hard to do, even if I wanted to, barring me having a clear lane every time to drive into.

I will post results from my Kings/Hornets games immediately after to avoid one very long post. Everything else from your v3 update remains the same. I like the way this feels!

Re: NBA 2K18 "The Eccentric Edition" - Realistic Slider Set

Cheers EccentricMeat. Like I said the work you are doing is hugely appreciated, and making a great game even better.

For me I'm about halfway through a MyLeague season with a expansion Seattle Supersonics team. I've simmed very little and played pretty much with your slider sets only.

v2 had a nice balance defensively, I liked the lateral quickness being set to 0 as it made the defenders feet feel heavy, like you were planting them each step. It meant I had to think about where my defender was going and try to position myself better.

I think the latest sliders you've upped lateral quickness and put defensive AI assist (i think that's what it was called) to 50. There's two comments I would make about this; with lateral quickness up I have found myself actually over shooting my positioning where I'm sliding in front of a guy and he just stops and I slide on past and out of position. Maybe it's my reactions but it felt more natural on v2. There's probably an in between setting with lateral quickness that's just right.

With the defensive AI assist on I see the better animations but it's too easy to just sit there with L2 pressed and be in the right position to lock the opponent up. I feel like this makes the CPU hesitant to pass/shoot/dribble sometimes and they run the clock down and end up chucking something up at the end of the clock. I've noticed this quite a few times now in v3 but not as much in v2 as i recall.

Offensively I like how your sliders play. I like the feeling of turning the corner and riding a guys shoulder to the hoop. I also like how you can cross a guy up to get a bit of space and then get that lane. The CPU help D is noticeably better in v3 which I like.

I'd been getting low percentages in v2, and they dropped to about being in the 30% range in v3 for CPU and low 40% for me. I bumped shooting up to 52/53 and played one game and beat the blazers 154-151 in OT. It was mental, both teams shot like 55% and I was like 60% from 3. I've put it back down to 50/51 but gonna try 50/52.

Anyway, just thinking about all of this it's crazy how good this game is and can be, and how small tweaks make a big difference. Keep on it man, you're doing a great job and I'll try to feedback more when i can.

Re: NBA 2K18 "The Eccentric Edition" - Realistic Slider Set

(THIS IS USING my V3 tweaks from 2 posts up)

          Kings 114 - Hornets 97

          FG: 43/96 (45%) - 36/87 (41%)
          3PT: 10/27 (37%) - 5-20 (25%)
          FT: 18/21 (86%) - 20/26 (77%)
          Offensive rebounds: 17 - 13
          Defensive rebounds: 44 - 39
          Steals: 6 - 9
          Blocks: 5 - 1
          Turnovers: 9-8

In hindsight, perhaps leaving CPU blocks at 55 would be ideal.

          Some statlines:

Deaaron fox: 13 pts, 9 reb, 10 assists
Enes Kanter: 17 pts, 16 reb (8 offensive)

          Kemba walker: 36 pts, 4 ast, 11-28 fg, 3-8 3pt, 11-14 FT
          Malik Monk: 17 pts, 3 reb, 4 ast, 7-16 fg, 2-3 3pt
Dwight Howard: 8 pts, 15 reb, 19 minutes

Thoughts: Enes Kanter grabbed a ton of boards for me in this one. He gobbled up 8 offensive rebounds on his own. The Hornets are shopping Howard around as teh deadline nears which is why I guess he only played 19 minutes. He pulled down a lot of boards in that time as well. Kemba walker attacked, attacked, attacked. Problem is he had no help. Aside from walker and monk, their team bricked a lot of 3's. Charlotte has like no shooters. lol.

Fox grabbed 9 rebounds! that's the most i've seen from a non-pf/c since I've started playing this year's game. That's a huge plus.

But mike you won by 17, how is that challenging?!

It felt realistic. Game was tight until we broke it open in the 2nd half and the lack of hornets depth. One game is hardly enough to say the tweaks I made are spot on but I could see a more talented team giving me a run for my money and a contender smashing me.

Inside shots and putbacks were not easy to land. I felt like CPU turnovers/user steals are more realistic now than with previous versions of these sliders.

I'll continue to post feedback. anyone finding v3 way too easy, feel free to try out these tweaks.

v3 has definitely improved rebound distribution though. Fox actually got 9 rebounds, I was blown away. lol.

Cool. Just started a game vs. Denver. Down by 13 after 1.

I knew my 9 turnovers last game was just a fluke. Gotta love a young team, no consistency...lol

I am seeing this as well re: lateral quickness and user defense. I am trying lowering on ball d and cpu offensive sliders as well, because of the really low CPU FG%. Also gonna try to find a happy medium with the lateral quickness- maybe around the 30s. Good stuff Eccentric.

The two main things I've been debating is setting Defensive Assist and/or Lateral Quickness back to 0. Animations might take a slight hit but the increase in difficulty of on ball defense might be worth it.

Eccentric do you feel the sliders are ready for CPU vs CPU games in terms of realism? I do understand that in 2k looking for accurate real life results is nearly not possible atm, but it can still be enjoyable.

Finished my first game with V3 sliders and wow! You can feel the difference how heavy the players feel but sometimes it felt way to slow but that’s just my feedback. Mavs (me) vs Nuggets (CPU) I got out to a fast lead and it stayed that way. The Nuggets couldn’t hang in the game especially when I was using Dennis Smith in every way possible.

It's kind of awesome (for a slider maker) that EVERYONE is having the same two issues: rebounding and CPU offensive tendencies.

Should make the next couple updates easy to work on!

Turnovers too, gotta find a way to get that up consistently. I have the cpu's at 10 and im not seeing crazy unrealistic missed passes that ive heard others seen. Mine is at 35. I still don't get the nba average in t.o's, so just food for thought.

I also even turned my steals up to 60 and the attribute version up to 55 (Never understood the difference between the 2). Ive also put playing the pass lanes to 75, go for on ball steals to 85. This helps with fouls too. Needs more testing though but im not seeing anything unrealistic and Ive been getting better stats.
                              Forca Barca!
