Re: NBA 2K18 "The Eccentric Edition" - Realistic Slider Set

Here's the next batch of games I've played. I've had to make a few changes to make it a little harder. Notably, I've bumped up AI shooting a few points:

As you can see, the rebounding disparity has been huge the last 3 games. Some of that might be due to the Celtics being one of the worst rebounding teams in basketball and the Nets being the Nets. Nonetheless, I still altered the rebounding sliders a little bit. There were tons of turnovers in the Pistons game and it felt good, then the turnovers dropped back down the last two games. So I don't know if that's ever going to be consistent.

Last game I just played: I had an awesome comeback in the last few minutes, capped off by an Enes Kanter putback with 0.8 seconds left to give me the lead and the win. It was fine for a few games, but now I'm back to getting a bunch of rebounds from the PF/C positions with total rebounding numbers still being a bit high

Re: NBA 2K18 "The Eccentric Edition" - Realistic Slider Set

Played a mygm game as the wizards vs the pistons with mfbmike's tweaks and it feels so much more realistic. I struggled to score in the paint when it used to be so easy. Andre Drummond's presence could be felt when trying to score in the paint also dominated us on offensive rebounds and so did bogan marjanovic. I used to get a low number of fga for user but now I am getting the correct amount and now the cpu is shooting a good percentage instead of super low. Only problems I really had were pistons only took 10 three pointers but I am not sure if thats just their play style since they do not have too many shooters so I will have to play some more games and the only other problem is 3 point percentage is too high, especially when I shoot with Bradley Beal. If any player user or cpu is open its almost automatically going in. Ive been having a problem with this no matter what slider set I am using. Not sure if I should lower and by how much.

Pistons(CPU):

Re: NBA 2K18 "The Eccentric Edition" - Realistic Slider Set

Played another mygm game as the Wizards against the Raptors using mfbmike's tweaks. For some reason this game I got way fewer field goal attempts, I did get a ridiculous amount of free throw attempts which could've taken some field goal attempts away and 14 turnovers but still so low. I was attacking the basket a lot so the high free throws isn't too unrealistic. The CPU took a realistic amount of 3s and made a realistic amount this game, but I made way too many of my 3s, still can't decide whether or not to decrease the slider and by how much, any thoughts on this? I also shot over 50% but I think I just played a good game and got good shots but the 3 pointer is still too easy. Also this is the second game in a row where cpu attempted 95+ shots, would like to get that down to about 88.

Raptors(CPU):
Points 110
43/95 FG 45%
7/24 3PT 29%

4 blocks
7 turnovers

User shot success stays at 50
Pass accuracy - 40 for both (AI was botching relatively easy passes at 20, full court heaves will still be a challenge for either AI or user to connect on. Pass smart and you shouldnt have an issue.)

Layup Defense Strength (Takeoff) - 50
Layup Defense Strength (Release) - 50
Jump Shot Defense Strength (Gather) - 55
Jump Shot Defense Strength (Release) - 55

All values for both AI and User.

These values reduced from the 55 (layup) and 60 (jumpshot) you had. It was making shots impossible for the AI to connect on, in my opinion. These tweaks still very much making contested layups HARD to make for both. If you're going to drive to the basket, you better have a clear lane or it's gonna be tough, as it should be. Contested shots were made, contested shots were missed. Open shots were hit, open shots were missed. Such is the way of the NBA.

Attempt Putbacks - 30

I saw guys in a prime position to get a 2nd chance bucket pass out of the paint with it set to 25.

Blocking – 50

55 was making it way too easy for me to get blocks. Even opposing 3PT shots were getting blocked far too often. 50 feels right.

Offensive rebounding - 41

You originally had this set to 55/42. Offensive rebounds have been WAY too easy to grab as the user (and creating inflated rebound numbers and as a result, high field goal attempts). This makes them very hard to come across for both teams but at a respectable number in line with that of the NBA.

Lateral quickness - 50

60 made it VERY hard for me to get around opposing players even with the very fast Dearron Fox. on the same token, opposing players could hardly ever get around me. 50 feels right. obviously 0 from v1 was too low. I was able to blow by guys if I wanted to and combined with the previous settings of layup contest, I was shooting a bit too high of a percentage with guards in the paint on drives. I never abused it for the sake of realism - now it seems very hard to do, even if I wanted to, barring me having a clear lane every time to drive into.

I will post results from my Kings/Hornets games immediately after to avoid one very long post. Everything else from your v3 update remains the same. I like the way this feels!
I've played a few games using these tweaks as well, but I've also reduced lateral quickness to 25, and defensive assist to 10.

Combined it feels really nice. My defenders really have to move their feet and position themselves well, but I still find it quite hard to turn the corner on my man on O. With defensive assist at 10 I'm still getting some animations as the defender snaps into position, but I still need to react with him otherwise I could get burned. I might reduce that further or turn it off entirely.

I like the higher attempted putbacks rating. I've had a few instances where I've pulled up for a mid range J off the screen and the roll man has been in great position to tip in the miss. Felt and looked really realistic, and (while it could be placebo) I don't recall that happening as much previously.

I don't have time to play 12 min quarters so I play 6 mins with stats simmed to 12 in two myleague saves, Sonics and Knicks. Not sure if therefore it's worth posting my stats but the games are generally close with some big leads/comebacks.

I'll need to play a few more games but defensively that feels more like v2 tbh. I feel CPU tendencies (CPU off awareness?) could improve a little as they are still playing a little timid at times and taking more bad shots as a result.

I don't know how you guys manage to shoot over 40% and i am more amazed how you get cpu to shoot over that same percentage. It's just 2 games but man those were ugly games, i think my fg% was around 30-35 and CPU's was around 30 or a bit below it. CPU is taking tough mid range fadeaways and they are missing the most of it. They even miss lightly contested 3s more often than not and then they end up banging it inside and it feels like playing against that human player that just looks to score inside. I had a better feeling when playing on default sliders on Superstar but it became too easy. Sure i believe there are things that these sliders fix in comparison to 2k's but the game doesn't feel that fun when it's a brickfest. I'll try these updates you guys posted on the last couple of sides and see if it feels and plays better.

I feel you. Both User and CPU percentages need to go up, I'm going to try putting shooting up to 51/52.

Played another game as the wizards vs the hornets with the tweaks. This time I decreased the user 3 point slider by 10 from 50 to 40 because I was shooting way too well from 3 and I left the cpu 3 point slider at 51. I also decreased the user shooting foul frequency from 75 to 70 and also increased the cpu shooting foul frequency from 65 to 70 because I was getting too many free throw attempts and the cpu was getting too little. This game was a blowout so my starters only played like 23 minutes. This was one of the worst games Ive ever seen a cpu play. The hornets took too long to take a shot every possession and took some really bad shots, several times michael carter williams would have a one on one and shoot a deep fade away two and would miss everytime. I have never seen a team shoot so bad from the field and score such a low amount of points.

It seems the decrease from 50 to 40 in the user 3 point slider worked well as I shot a realistic 33%. Also decreasing the shooting foul frequency for the user seemed to work as I shot a more realistic 21 free throws. CPU still only shot 13 free throws even with the shooting foul slider up to 70 but the hornets just did not play well, did not take any good shot or attack the basket that much. I got more of a realistic amount of field goal attempts this game, may be a result of shooting less free throws and not as much turnovers. Would've liked to see the hornets take a couple more shots. Team fouls are still low as I only committed 8 team fouls and the hornets only 14. I am going to play another game to see if any other teams will shoot this bad. Hopefully they take better shots and attack the basket more and get those free throw attempts up. Any thoughts on my slider tweaks so far, anybody else tried them yet?

Did another game against the Timberwolves. Same sliders as last game with shooting foul at 70 for both the user and cpu and user 3 pointer at 40. This time the cpu didnt take dumb shots and shot a realistic percentage and attempted a realistic amount of shots and they are better shooters than the hornets though so makes sense. Cpu didnt take as many 3s this time and free throw attempts were low for both sides. Would've liked to have gotten more shot attempts for the user but I did turnover the ball a lot which took away some more shots I could've had. 3 pointer for the user still looking good as I shot 38%. This game felt a lot more realistic than the last game against the hornets but the sliders are exactly the same.

So the things that still need to be worked on are increasing number of free throw attempts for the cpu maybe increasing attacking the basket tendency I'm not sure, making the 3 point attempts for the cpu more consistent and in the 20s, and increasing non shooting fouls or total team fouls for both teams by a lot.

Great feedback redskins!

Dionysus, I am likely going to lower the following values:

Layup Defense Strength (Takeoff) - 50 to 45
Layup Defense Strength (Release) - 50 to 45

I'd like to see if it makes layup attempts and shots in the paint slightly easier to make for both user and CPU and will bring up the FG%'s (currently seeing numbers hovering around 41-42% in my games). While challenging, I feel both user and cpu should be making alot of the attempts in the paint they are attempting. All user shooting values still at 50, all cpu shooting values still at 51.

I agree wholeheartedly with the person who said the 35% brickfests are hardly fun (and on a long enough timetable, not realistic).

I will report back. v2 with my cpu shooting values set to 51 was getting the rebounds totals down due to higher successful field goal attempts. v3 increased the variety of players grabbing boards (amongst other positives) but obviously brought percentages way down. I think the above change will start to bring rebound numbers back in line, and with them being spread out more, will prove to be good.

Pau Gasol went ****ing nuts on me a few games ago and sent back 5 shots. I take back what I said about the cpu blocking values a few pages back lol. 50 is fine.

back on the grind, in the thick of the playoff race in january with teh kings. woo.

Good day ballers, has anyone encountered a jump ball wherein your player didn't responded to your control? (jumpball in-between games, not the jumpball at the start of the game). Not sure if it's a glitch, slider effect, or something. Even if I'm using a bigger player, couldn't win a jumpball. (love the whole game though) thanks.

@Redskins041, you're working against yourself with the foul sliders. USER fouls control how often the user COMMITS fouls. So decreasing this will give the CPU LESS free throws. And increasing CPU fouls will give the USER MORE free throws.

You might need to try setting Shooting Fouls to 80/60 if you want more for the CPU and less for the USER.
