I’m having a big issue with this slider set with CPU stealing passes that’s within their reach, even if my teammate has the better angle to receive the pass. The CPU just reach past him and knocks it away and takes it like no one is there. This is also a problem when a defender rotates off of a shooter, to cover a paint player, I cannot get the pass across to the corner 3 without whoever is inside the paint, reaching 10 feet in the air and one-hand stealing the pass meant for 30 feet away lol.

Also, when driving and having a step on a defender I’m finding it nearly impossible to finish without dunking or else it just rolls out and counts as a contest (with the defender a step behind)

Lastly when driving with this slider set I find it too easy for the bigs to come help on defense, without giving any advantage to me being able to hit the open man in the paint because the defender helps, and recovers to his man too quickly, thus being able to play the entire paint flawlessly, even setting up for (and earning) charges even with their feet sliding and/or in the restricted zone. I also have an issue with me getting a center on a PG in the paint, and almost any scoring move I make turns into a stripped ball being stolen or rolling out of bounds. Hooks, backdown drop steps, fades count as contested even with a foot height difference.

Any suggestions to help these issues? I use the magic, so I love a challenge, but I’m finding these same issues kind of killing the fun of the challenge because it’s just so outlandish at times. These are happening regardless of the skill/stats of defenders.

For the issue with the CPU stealing passes, you have the choice of decreasing either the “Hands” attribute slider or the “Play Passing Lanes” tendency slider. “Hands” controls how likely the AI is to successfully steal a pass, whereas “Play Passing Lanes” obviously controls how likely they are to simply attempt to steal a pass.

Since it sounds like your issue is defenders attempting too many steals, I would drop the tendency by about 10 and see from there. If you’re happy with the rate of attempted steals but just don’t like how good they are at always getting their hand on the ball, then drop the Hands slider by 5 and see if that’s enough.

For contested layups (or contested shots all together) missing too often, decrease the Shot Coverage Impact slider by a few until you’re happy with the results. You can also increase the relevant Shot Success sliders (particularly the Inside/Close/Layup/Contact Shot Success) by a few clicks here or there as needed, that’s entirely up to you. Don’t feel like you need to take my slider settings in the OP as gospel, they are always best used as a base to tweak slightly to fit your own skill level and/or preferences.

For the final issue with help defenders (particularly bigs) being too good at helping while also being able to recover and defend the player they rotated off of, that’s kind of just how I like it. Makes the game more difficult and harder to exploit the paint. To make this a little less egregious, I would just lower the Help Defense Strength slider by 5-10 and see how you like it. Hold off on making any changes here, though, until after you’ve tried the first tweaks I mentioned. Toning down the AI ability/frequency of trying to steal passes will inevitably make it easier to pass into the paint, so solving that issue for you might also solve the help defense issue as well.

So yea, try the first couple tweaks and see how you like it. If the help defense is still too good at recovering to defend the open man, then drop the Help Defense Strength slider.

Let me know if this helps!

      Hi,I'm a classic teams player.

I want to see more contested standing layups from the bigs ,but shaq, wilt,Yao can‘t finish easily when they face a defender.

increase the inside/close shot success or increase the layup success?can you give me suggestions to fix it?

Yup, I have the same problem. I’m gonna need to overhaul my shot success sliders to solve that, but it’s a bit of everything: Inside/Close/Layup/Contact Shot Success, they all need to be balanced correctly, as does the Shot Coverage Impact slider.

I’ll see if I can get something worked out ASAP and comment back when I do. In the meantime, feel free to tweak any/all of those sliders yourself to see what you like. I’d start with Inside Shot Success as those seem to be the most blatant shots to always miss in traffic.

EDIT: I’m seeing some success with Inside Shot Success at 60, Close Shot Success at 55, and Contact Shot Success at 50. Keeping Layups at 50 still leads to plenty of missed contested layups even with the higher Inside/Close Success sliders, so that’s good.

I’m testing a few new Tendencies that seems to make the AI a lot more dynamic on offense. Anyone interested in trying them out while I’m still testing:

          Inside - 35
          Close - 10
          Attack the Basket - 65

Played a game with these earlier today and liked the experience. I was Wizards going against the Nets and lost by 11. It was a close game throughout but too much star power late.

PIP was a little high. Going to run a few more games and see if that is a trend and then I may look to boost the midrange game.

Was using Schnaidt's sliders but think I may like these better. The AI defense with his sliders just isn't challenging enough. My pg was getting about 14 apg just by running off ball screens for Beal. His slider setup turns the game into too much of a 3 pt and dunk contest.

Out of curiosity, did you use the additional tweaks listed in the “2K broke the Defense” section in the OP? Or just the regular v0.4 sliders?

And the PIP is definitely game/team dependent. In my last game against the Warriors they scored less than 30% of their total points in the paint, instead choosing to just rain 40 3pt shots on me [emoji23]

I did not. I saw the tweaks but going from lateral quickness of 40 to 100 seemed steep to me, so I met halfway.
I'm content with the AI defense for now. I'll probably look to boost it after stabilizing their offense.

While PIP is team dependent, after more games I think its due to needing to boost AI shot success. Teams are only making inside shots or 3 against me. The Magic just shot 27% for the game. This is year 2 of my franchise so they aren't as bad as in real life. It wasn't as noticeable vs the Nets cause they got guys who can consistently get to the rim and finish.

I'm going to try boosting close and midrange a few points, and give their contact shot success a modest 5 point boost. I'm happy with their shot selection, I just want more of them to drop.

Seems like this year there is a huge disparity between stars and everyone else in terms of ability to score. I understand NBA is a star driven league but I would like to narrow the gap just a bit.

Hey there Eccentric, I've been using your Sliders for years now man, and have had a great time with them, so thanks for all of your hard work and effort you always put in!!

I do have a question that maybe you can give me a few tips with...

My brother and I play MyNBA season mode both with Player Lock on the same team, and we've been doing that for 10 years. This years game seems like we can't get any contribution or anything from our AI teammates, they will never shoot even when we run plays, and are always overwhelmed by the opponents, and if we hit square to make them shoot when there wide open, it's 95% miss regardless... I know it's a tough question but do you have any suggestions on how to make them play more competitive/normal.. we usually play on Superstar and Hall of Fame, and in the past games the AI would hold there own with us..

                  Thanks again, Take it easy

Yea when I added those defensive tweaks to the OP it was in response to a patch where 2K made the AI completely braindead on defense and they needed a massive boost. Seems like they have fixed that a bit in the weeks since so the drastic slider tweaks aren't quite as needed, so I was just wondering if you had been using them so I could square that with your feedback.

Shot Success sliders seem to be hit or miss for a lot of people. For me those settings give realistic FG% from the AI, but some are getting different results. Thankfully those are the easiest sliders to tweak on an individual basis so we can all get the results we want with minimal testing required. Just to cover all the bases, you are using Real FG% and not User Timing, correct?

Unfortunately I have never played with Player Lock so I don't have much knowledge there. My first thought would be to make sure the User tendencies are set to match the CPU settings, and bumping the User Offensive Awareness up to 75 to match the CPU there as well.

                        Correct, real Fg%.

Found the major culprit for my pip. Turns out I'm an idiot.

I got the "stay attached" setting mixed up. I thought the setting applied for when the player was the ball handler, i.e. "when this player is the ball handler, how do you wish to defend the pnr."
You can imagine my embarrassment after giving up 37 to Fox and checking replays to see that the hedge defender NEVER helped on pnr. Well thats because I set "stay attached" to yes for all the bigs. No sir Robert Williams and his 67ish mid range J will not be picking and popping against me lol

Really liking this set though as it makes different teams stand out. Just finished playing Boston (Fox was traded to the Celtics) and their defense will be giving me nightmares. Almost all of their perimeter players have at least an A- in per D and it showed.

Few notes that may be worth knowing for feedback:
I have defensive controller assist to 0. I use the Wizards who's real life defense isn't that good, but in year 2 of my franchise its actually damn good. Avdija is a superb on ball defender, I acquired Marcus Smart, and I have a rookie big who is a great inside defender. Pick and roll defense aside lol, I'm a fairly good on ball user defender and except for the quickest guards, I play defense with hands up 100% of the time. I fired my head coach and am using a generated coach with B+ in defense. Not 100% sure what effect that has, but I'm sure it has one.

I think factors like those may explain much of the different results users are reporting.

I like to keep some defensive assist just in the hopes that it MIGHT help trigger even 1 or 2 extra shooting fouls for the CPU, anything to help get them to the line more [emoji23]

Getting some really good games after some tweaks to these sliders. This was a loss against the Kings. I was the Wizards. This is year 2 and the Kings have a pretty good squad. Every starter is over 80 ovr and I think they are 3rd in the West. I'm fighting to hold on to the 4th seed out east with one more game to go until the trade deadline. (My pip was low cause the Kings have a 81 ovr rookie 7ft center with 91 shot blocking and I did not want that smoke)

The only flaws I'm seeing are probably things that 2k needs to patch or are otherwise not slider related.

What are you guys using to get more jump shot fouls?
