Re: Official Playbook thread...
Now for the Pistons. Here is the starting lineup:
PG - Chauncey Billups
SG - Richard Hamilton
SF - Tayshaun Prince
PF - Rasheed Wallace
C - Nazr Mohammed
No issues to report about here since I think it's better for Antonio McDyess to come off the bench instead of start as C or PF.
SG Option (Triangle 1 set)
Refer to the Sonics section for an explanation of this play. Rip can be just as deadly as Ray Ray on this play.
High Rub PG-PF (Triangle 6 set)
A nice 2-man Screen play for Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace that can also be disguised as a Pick & Roll. Sheed comes out and set the screen to try and free up Billups near the top of the key, and from that point Billups has the choice to shoot the mid-range J or drive to the basket. Or Billups can back out to near the arc and hit Sheed as he dives to the basket like a typical P&R play. Dice can also be utilized the same way to fill in the role Sheed does here.
Power Play PF (Triangle 5 set)
Check for the explanation of this play in the Grizzlies section. This play has Sheed taking care of business in the post. Be warned that Sheed is not as deadly as Gasol on the low block, but he can do enough damage down there to warrant constant double teams.
Corner Roll SF-PG (Motion 1 set)
A 2-man play involving Chauncey and Tay with some options. Tay receives the pass from Billups near the top of the key behind the arc, then passes it back to Billups after he runs to the corner for a catch-and-shoot trey if open. If not open, Tay runs over to set a screen for Billups at the wing to free him up for a J or drive to the basket. Or Billups can pass it right back to Tay behind the arc via lead icon passing if he draws both defenders.
Return PG-PF (Motion 1 set)
"Return" is a Pick & Roll play that starts off with Tay receiving a short pass or handoff from Chauncey. Then Tay hands the ball back to him. Now at this point it's run like a typical P&R play from the wing. Sheed (or Dice if he's in as PF) sets the screen for Chauncey, then the PF who's on the floor has the option to eiter roll to the basket or stand ready for the pass to take a midrange J -- or even move behind the arc if it's Sheed.
Pick Roll Forwards (Motion 2 set)
This is a play formerly known as "Dual Wing Forward SF" play in past NBA 2K games. This is a Post play involving Tay and Sheed. Tay gets the ball on the wing near/behind the arc from Billups. And then Tay feeds the ball to Sheed setting up on the low block. But if Sheed is drawing too much attention in the post by the defense, Tay can treat it like an Iso play and look for his own shot. Dice could also be utilized in this play, but he doesn't have the range of low post skills Sheed does.
SG Take (Motion 1 set)
Time to give Rip some more love. It's an Isolation play for Rip to allow him to go to work on the wing one-on-one against his man.
SG Rub Iso (Baseline 1 set)
Formerly known as "Rub Read" play in past NBA 2K games, this is a Screen play mainly involving Rip and Sheed. Tay receives the ball on the wing from Chauncey, then immediately passes it off to Rip standing on the top of the key. Sheed sets a screen for Rip at the elbow area to possibly free him up for the midrange J or drive to the basket. Or if Rip draws both defenders he can opt to hit Sheed as he flares behind the arc for the trey. This play is also good to run with Dice on the floor as he can also hit midrange J whenever open. Just have Dice stand where he is after setting the screen, and not move behind the arc.

Re: Official Playbook thread...
On to the Knicks. Here's my preferred starting lineup:
PG - Stephon Marbury
SG - Jamal Crawford
SF - Quentin Richardson
PF - Channing Frye
C - Eddy Curry
I don't about other Knicks users, but I kicked Jalen Rose and Maurice Taylor off the roster, kind of like what has happend in real life. I have Q-Rich starting in Rose's place. Yeah I could have Steve Francis starting as 2 guard, but I prefer to have Jamal Crawford here instead because he can shoot better. Now for the plays:
PF Screen (1-4 High set)
Knicks users must include this play in their playbook arsenal for Stephon Marbury, as he can be really deadly in it if used properly. Check the Sonics section for an explanation of this play.
PG Reversal (1-4 High set)
This is another play for Steph. First, Steph passes the ball off the Richardson on the sideline, then Richardson passes the rock to Crawford once he moves near the top of the key. Crawford then gives the ball back to Steph who moves to the the opposite side of the court from Richardson. Steph has the option of taking his man one-on-one. Or he can hit Richardson at the elbow area as Richardson moves past a double screen set by Frye and Crawford at the FT line. (This play was formerly known as "Double High SF" in past NBA/CH 2K games.)
Low Double Option (Baseline 1 set)
This is a Post play for Eddy Curry. Now I know what Knicks users are thinking. "What the Eddy Curry doing with a play? He sucks in the post in this game." While Curry can't be a dominant player on the low block, it's still good to throw him a bone in the post every once in a while so the defense can't just ignore him. In this play Steph passes the ball to Q-Rich standing on the sideline behind the arc, then Q-Rich gets the ball to Curry on the block.
High Rub PG-PF (Triangle 6 set)
Check the Pistons section for a rundown of this play. It's a really good play that involves Steph and Frye.
High Rub SG-C (Triangle 1 set)
A play almost identical to "High Rub PG-PF" instead Steph gives the ball to Crawford and Crawford gets the screen from Curry. Seconds later Curry dives to the basket, so Crawford has the option of passing the ball to him like they would be completing a P&R play.
SG Option C (Triangle 1 set)
Check the Sonics section for a description of this play. Crawford's J is no joke in this game. He can also drive and finish well.
SG Take (Motion 1 set)
An Isolation play for Crawford. He has really good one-on-one skills so it's a good idea to take advantage of it.
Inside Out SF-C (Baseline 1 set)
This play is almost identical to "Low Double Option" with the difference being that Curry can kick the ball back out to Q-Rich and then try to re-post if desired. It would be a good idea to alternate between these plays to keep the defense off-guard.

Re: Official Playbook thread...
Posting this here in hopes someone will answer...
I hate the Knicks playbook... which isn't much of a surprise considering who's at the helm this year ((at least it's a win-win for knicks fans this year as either they improve dramatically or we can finally say goodbye to Isiah)).
My question is... can you use other playbooks during your association games, or just your team-specific one? I found sooo many great plays that appear to run crisp and clean from the "All-Plays" playbook during my exhibition game that I want to use. Trouble is, it doesn't look like there is any place to switch your playbooks during association. Not before the game in the coaching options, or even during the game. I know I can switch plays, but what about using an entirely different playbook?
Thanks!!!Comment

Re: Official Playbook thread...
Now for the Magic. Starting lineup:
PG - Jameer Nelson
SG - J.J. Redick
SF - Grant Hill
PF - Dwight Howard
C - Tony Battie
Now I think I know what many of you Magic users are thinking. Why am I not starting Darko Milicic. He's more skilled player than Tony Battie, plus he's a better shotblocker. So why start Battie instead? Well, the reason is rather simple. Darko's extreme lack of defensive awareness is startling to me (rated somewhere in the 60s). I can't tolerate that enough to have him starting, period. So Battie gets the nod. Now to the plays:
Pick Roll Forwards (Motion 2 set)
A must have play to utilize the great low post skills of Dwight Howard. Check the Pistons section for description of this play.
Return PG-PF (Motion 1 set)
Jameer Nelson and Dwight Howard. Again, description of this play should be inside the Pistons section.
SF Iso (Motion 1 set)
Gotta have something for Grant Hill and his nice one-on-one skills. Here is an Isolation play to get Hill the ball. Nelson passes the ball to Battie on the wing, then Battie hands Hill the ball and gets out of the way. Now Hill can promptly go to work on his man.
SG Iso (Motion 1 set)
Like Brankles mentioned before, this is a Isolation play to get Redick the ball on the elbow. Nelson stands at the top of the key behind the arc then hits Redick with as he comes off the screen set by Howard. From here Redick has the option to either stop and pop, or drive to the basket.
PF Post (Motion 5 set)
Like the name says, it's a Post play for big Dwight. Nelson passes the ball to Redick standing near the sideline. Then Redick throws a crosscourt pass to Hill standing on the weak side behind the arc, after popping out from a Howard screen. Hill then passes the ball to Howard calling for the ball in the post. Spacing is good in this play since the quickest double team can really only come from Hill's man.
PF Screen (1-4 High set)
I've said before that this play should always be in the repertoire whenever you have a good playmaking PG capable of running it. And Nelson is good enough to be that considered that caliber of point guard. An explanation of this play can be found in the Sonics section.
PG Reversal (1-4 High set)
This is a good play to run for Nelson. There is also a potential open elbow jumper from Hill in this one. Hedo Turkoglu is capable of filling in for Hill to run this play as his J is just as good as Hill's, if not better. Check the Knicks section for a description of how this play is ran.
Rub Read (Motion 5 set)
This play is similar to the "SG Rub Iso" play out of the Motion 1 set that involves Redick and Howard. The only difference is that Howard actually receives the ball from Redick before Redick makes his move past Howard to the wing, then Howard is immediately supposed to get the ball back to Redick. But if both Redick's man and Howard's man move to guard Redick as he's on the move, then Howard can keep the ball instead of passing it to Redick and look to score himself.

This play involves Jones and Bosh. Ford passes the ball to Mo Pete standing on the sideline away from the other players. Then Mo Pete gets the ball to Jones standing near the top of the key. Jones then goes around the Bosh setting a screen at the elbow area. From here Jones have the choice to stop and pop or drive to the basket if the path to the cup is there. Or Jones have the option to pass back to Bosh for the elbow jumper if Bosh’s man goes to help out on him after he goes around the screen
Nice stuff Kruza.
This particular play is my favorite to run with the Cavs. Couple more options...
-After the initial pass, the PG dives down to the deep corner. If the defending PG stops to cheat towards LeBron, your PG will be wide open for a quick 3/drive/pullup.
-Like Kruza said, the next pass should be to the SG spotted up on oposite wing, but you can also let LeBron keep it and iso from what is in reality his favorite position on the floor...with the PG in the corner available for a draw and kick. If you hold it with LeBron, the play causes the floor to clear out nicely.
-If you pass to the SG, he will immediately have a PF high-post screen to use at your discretion...or you can hold it until Lebron comes from the weakside around a baseline C pick and shoot it down to him for a quick post up. Like Kruza mentioned, you can do a nice 2-man game with the PF and SG.
-Another wrinkle is to get it to the SG, then reverse him back to where LeBron just was...again, the floor opens up nicely here. I always do that with Kobe when I run this with the Lakeshow.Last edited by HMcCoy; 10-02-2006, 11:18 PM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Official Playbook thread...
Another good one to run for the Lakers is the "SG/SF inside-out" play( Its a triangle play...forgot which set.)
Its pretty simple 2-man game with Odom posted up...but sometimes I like to have Kobe and Odom switch positions during a dead ball and let Kobe be the post-up guy on this play. He did this alot against the Suns last year. 24 is mad dangerous from this position, especially if he's been hot and the double comes. Lots of options for him to pass/score.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Official Playbook thread...
Now for the Bulls. Starting lineup:
PG - Kirk Hinrich
SG - Ben Gordon
SF - Andres Nocioni
PF - P.J. Brown
C - Ben Wallace
No surprise here. Nice to see Andres Nocioni get a good boost in ratings so now I have no guilt starting him over Luol Deng. Anyway, to the plays:
SG Option (1-4 High set)
With a player like Ben Gordon and the way he can shoot, this play begs for him. See Sonics section for description.
SG Option C (Triangle 1 set)
This is a good play to call on as a counter to the defense's answer to "SG Option". Again, the explanation is in Sonics section.
High Rub SG-C (Baseline 1 set)
This is a Screen play involving Gordon and Big Ben. Hinrich gets the ball to Gordon. Then Wallace comes to set a screen to free Gordon and seconds later cuts to the basket. After going around the screen a midrange J or driving lane to the cup should be there for Gordon. But beware if you decide to dish it to Big Ben near the basket as he has trouble finishing bunnies at times.
PG Dive (Baseline 1 set)
This is basically an Isolation play for Hinrich. Hinrich first passes the ball to Gordon, then gets the ball right back at the elbow. Now Hinrich has the option to shoot the elbow jumper on the spot or get into triple threat stance and work his man one-on-one.
PG Take (Motion 1 set)
Another Isolation play for Hinrich. He first passes the ball to Nocioni on the wing coming off a screen from Big Ben. Then Nocioni dribbles to the top of the key and hits Hinrich coming off a screen set by Brown on the opposite wing. Now Hinrich can go to work on his man.
Post PF-SF (Baseline 1 set)
Okay, it's time to give Nocioni a bone. This is a Post play for him. He's not a dominant player on the block (see Eddy Curry), but he can do some damage there as he takes advantage of the fact that not many opposing SFs in general can play good low post defense. In this play Hinrich has the ball at the top of the key and slowly drifts over to the strong side as Nocioni heads to the basket to establish position in the post. Then Hinrich can pass him the ball once Nocioni calls for it.
High Rub PG-PF (Triangle 6 set)
This is a Screen play that can be disguised as a Pick & Roll play for Hinrich and Brown. Check the Pistons section for a description of this play.
SG Shuffle (Baseline 2 set)
This is a nice quick play for Gordon. In this play Hinrich gets the ball to Nocioni standing behind the arc close to the wing. Nocioni then waits for a moment and looks for Gordon makes a "shuffle cut" to the paint area about 10-12 feet away from the basket, and hits Gordon right there for the quick stop & pop J. Or if help defenders starts to hound Gordon on the catch, he can kick the ball back out to Nocioni for the trey.
