    Re: Official Playbook thread...

If anyone posts up for the Suns, add these 2 cents.

PF Screen seems to be a good play for the Suns and probably the one I run most often because it is so versataile. Using the default lineup (Nash, Bell, Marion, Diaw, Stoudamire) Diaw sets a high screen for Nash. There are many options off of the screen if it is well-set: 1) Nash to the hoop for the basket 2) Nash drive and kick to the corner (Bell or Marion, who is money) if that man's defender helps on Nash 3) Dish back to Diaw at the top of the key if both defenders follow Nash 4) Drop off to Stoudamire on the opposite block if his man collapses.

I'm working on plays one at a time, so that is all I have for now.

      Re: Official Playbook thread...

Here goes the Timberwolves. Starting lineup:

      PG - Mike James
      SG - Randy Foye
      SF - Ricky Davis
      PF - Kevin Garnett
      C - Mark Blount

Now T'Wolves user may have a big problem with one thing roster: Starting Mark Blount over Eddie Griffin at the 5 spot. That's obviously because Griffin is a much higher rated player than Blount in this game. And the truth is, I can't even argue with any of you about it. I really can't blame you all since I am very tempted to start Griffin myself. But I just can't bring myself to do that. What I will do, however, is make sure Griffin gets a lot more playing time than Blount during the course of a game. Well now that I got that out of the way, here are the plays:

High Rub PG-PF (Triangle 6 set)
A great play to run involving James and Garnett. Check the Pistons section for an explanation.

      PF Seal (Triangle 5 set)
This is a play for Garnett that takes advantage of his great low post skills. Here, James has the ball at the top of the key and finds Davis popping out to the sideline behind the arc. Davis receives the ball there from James, then passes the ball to Garnett setting up on the low block. Then it's time for KG to get busy.

High Post Clear PF (Motion 1 set)
This is a play for Garnett to get him the ball Isolated in the high post area. James first passes the ball to Foye on the wing. Then Foye gets the ball to Garnett as KG moves to the high post. Now KG has room to operate one-on-one.

      PG Take (Motion 1 set)
This is an Isolation play that's good to run for James. Check out the Bulls section for description.

      SG Take (Motion 1 set)
It's time to give the rook Foye some attention. This is an Isolation play for him to get the ball on the wing as he gets the pass from James standing at the top of the key.

      SF Wing (Motion 4 set)
I gotta look out for Davis too. This is a Isolation play to run with him. James has the ball at the top of the key and passes it to Foye popping out on the corner. Foye then gets the ball to Garnett at the elbow area. And finally Garnett passes it off to Davis on the opposite wing. What's good about this play is that opposing defenses may not see this play is for Davis right away since most of the ball movement and player movement takes place on the opposite side of the court. And with all that action going on, it's easy to think that this play is designed for KG or Foye instead.

Pop and Clear PF (Motion 1 set)
Now it's back to the centerpiece of the team. This play is designed to get KG the ball on the baseline about 12-15 feet away from the hoop.

      Stack PG-PF (Motion 1 set)
This is basically a Pick & Pop play involving James and Garnett. James has the ball at the top of the key, then goes around the screen set at the elbow by KG. Now James has the option of shooting the midrange J, driving straight to the hoop, or drifting toward the corner and passing the ball back to Garnett. The last option is good to do if you intend for Garnett to get the ball, and his man decides to help out to guard James as James comes off the screen. This way, James can draw both defenders away from KG and give KG enough room to do what he wants with the rock once he catches it.

Kruza, would you be interested in doing the new-look Hornets with CP3 running the point and Peja and Chandler? they are a really fun team to run with.

                SF - Andres Nocioni
                PF - P.J. Brown
                C - Ben Wallace

No surprise here. Nice to see Andres Nocioni get a good boost in ratings so now I have no guilt starting him over Luol Deng. Anyway, to the plays:

                SG Option (1-4 High set)
With a player like Ben Gordon and the way he can shoot, this play begs for him. See Sonics section for description.

SG Option C (Triangle 1 set)
This is a good play to call on as a counter to the defense's answer to "SG Option". Again, the explanation is in Sonics section.

High Rub SG-C (Baseline 1 set)
This is a Screen play involving Gordon and Big Ben. Hinrich gets the ball to Gordon. Then Wallace comes to set a screen to free Gordon and seconds later cuts to the basket. After going around the screen a midrange J or driving lane to the cup should be there for Gordon. But beware if you decide to dish it to Big Ben near the basket as he has trouble finishing bunnies at times.

                PG Dive (Baseline 1 set)
This is basically an Isolation play for Hinrich. Hinrich first passes the ball to Gordon, then gets the ball right back at the elbow. Now Hinrich has the option to shoot the elbow jumper on the spot or get into triple threat stance and work his man one-on-one.

                PG Take (Motion 1 set)
Another Isolation play for Hinrich. He first passes the ball to Nocioni on the wing coming off a screen from Big Ben. Then Nocioni dribbles to the top of the key and hits Hinrich coming off a screen set by Brown on the opposite wing. Now Hinrich can go to work on his man.

                Post PF-SF (Baseline 1 set)
Okay, it's time to give Nocioni a bone. This is a Post play for him. He's not a dominant player on the block (see Eddy Curry), but he can do some damage there as he takes advantage of the fact that not many opposing SFs in general can play good low post defense. In this play Hinrich has the ball at the top of the key and slowly drifts over to the strong side as Nocioni heads to the basket to establish position in the post. Then Hinrich can pass him the ball once Nocioni calls for it.

High Rub PG-PF (Triangle 6 set)
This is a Screen play that can be disguised as a Pick & Roll play for Hinrich and Brown. Check the Pistons section for a description of this play.

                SG Shuffle (Baseline 2 set)
This is a nice quick play for Gordon. In this play Hinrich gets the ball to Nocioni standing behind the arc close to the wing. Nocioni then waits for a moment and looks for Gordon makes a "shuffle cut" to the paint area about 10-12 feet away from the basket, and hits Gordon right there for the quick stop & pop J. Or if help defenders starts to hound Gordon on the catch, he can kick the ball back out to Nocioni for the trey.
