Lastly, 2k really doesn't need a lot of hype because it's sales and track record speak for itself.
Blasphemey...live definately looks better than nba 2k9..especially gameplay and control wise..but like you say..2k has a better track record of recent..so final judgement cant be made until the games drop. I was pretty disapointed in nba 2k9 tho..i was somewhat disapointed in 2k8 as well (took awhile for me to notice all the flaws tho..i thought it was excellent at first). We'll see. But dude is right..live is very hyped right now...the whole energy and attention this year has changed as far as the live forums go...i myself never go in that forum and after seeing the hands on czar review and gameplay vids...i check it everyday lol.

As a lot of the long time guys here know, I was pretty dissapointed with NBA 2K9. IMO it was a huge step backwards for the series. Ridiculous defensive logic, even worse offensive logic from the AI. It was the first time ever with a 2K basketball game that I could barely get through a game without getting up and turning the PS3 off. In so many ways it was inferior to 2K's College basketball game that had died a season earlier. The thought of all the College Hoops guys working on 2K9 had me really exctited for it, but it was a massive let down.

I wasn't sure what to expect with NBA 2K10. I made a post about 6 months back saying that this series was treading water and that it needed to really go back to the drawing board and get the fundamentals back into the series.

It's only very early days and we really haven't seen much (any) media about 2K10.

But if the Draft Combine is anything to go by...it's fair to say that this series is back on track and we are going to be in for a hell of a basketball game this year.

The LIVE 10 hype meter is just about going through the stratosphere on these forums and it's reasonably clear that game is also going to be very good. (The benefit of releasing a lot of vids, people can see the improvements).

Hopefully 2K will release some info soon that shows similar improvements in this series. Personally speaking, I am a sceptic who has been won back over by the Combine...but it's time 2K started to release some info and showed us exactly what's been improved for 2K10.
bought the combine and I came away quite disappointed, imo it just played flat.

The user control does need improvement. It's so annoying when you get trapped in an animation and can't break out of it. We need branching animations.

Expectation is high that we'll experience a much better game, as indicated by Chase in his preview. I guess we can only speculate about the game's quality at this stage though, as it seems we need to file a Freedom Of Information Act request just to see a gameplay video. Patience is a virtue, I know.
This is what I don't get. Every year people complain about 2k's marketing, but isn't this the way they always do things. I mean really what else would you have them do. I would like someone to explain how their lack of marketing has hurt their basketball franchise in anyway. I agree about the game needing improvements (most games do) but marketing is just hype really IMHO. If someone didn't like 2k9 how the heck is marketing going to make them like 2k10. Isn't it all about getting your hands on the game. I know game play videos are nice and all but it's not like playing the game yourself. Marketing is way overrated IMHO. Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, that's my marketing.

I really enjoyed 2K9 aside from the lack of midrange game because that bugged the hell out of me.

I'm really liking what I read about for 2K10, I'm 99% sure I'm getting it over the other game.

You put the word hype in the sentence to make it sound bogus!

Honestly the new Live developers are showing us that a series can't be a failure forever and showing us they care about the game of basketball and the people that play it.

2ksports has always been big, because of the previous failures of the Live series. Honestly they aren't failing any more and that previous excuse isn't the same scenario now! 2ksports has to pull out the big guns because believe it or not, 2k9 was definitely a disappointment.

People basing the success of 2k9 with sales numbers! No that is how many people who bought the game, trusting it would deliver the goods, based off the history of 2k8. But when they got it home it turned a lot of people away, so now those sales won't be looking that great come 2k10. Rob Jones, ZT and SimB' all know that game was bad. Look at some of their interview videos, those guys were miserably unhappy about the game. When 2k8 interview videos were floating around the web, they were cheerful, clowning around and upbeat! That same swagger wasn't the same!

2k10 better step up and start flossing their own "HYPE"! or all that fanbase is going to fade bye!

Eddie, You've misinterpreted my post. I never said that 2K's marketing has any bearing on the quality of their game. I know they do this every year, does that mean I have to like it? I'm just agreeing with BehindShadows that their marketing could be better, am I wrong in saying this? And FYI I enjoy 2K9 but look forward to a decent upgrade in 2K10.

Well marketing how the game has improved and show people how it improved, then it would make people want the game. Hence, why live is getting so much attention right now.

Marketing can't make a bad game to be good. But, marketing CAN point out things that were fixed. 7-8 years ago, marketing was: "We show you our new game - take it!!!". Today marketing is: "We learned from our mistakes last year, so this year we have lots of new and improved stuff, BUT we also fixed many of the issues that bothered you last year".
                      My Specs:

                      ZX Spectrum
                      CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
                      GPU: Monochrome display
                      RAM: 48 KB
                      OS: Sinclair BASIC

they still have the hockey game coming out...you guys should venture over the 2khockey forums and ask them how 2k is marketing their hockey game which comes out next week btw...

and uh...Live is only getting attention from the forum dwellers and those who actually look for info...i got a ton of coworkers that have no clue how Live is this year and they only go by last years edition...

To be fair though, no Basketball game can completely remove sliding.

To be honest I couldn't care less about 2k's marketing. I know I'm going to buy the game because I love basketball and their series, the only thing I care about is when I play the game for the 1st time, it amazes me like NBA 2K8.
